New To Forum...'76 Cutlass Salon
I just signed up (See Newbie Forum) and have a White '76 Cutlass Salon...loaded as one would expect...with "T" tops that don't leak. Yet. I have the original sticker that shows the car at close to $ 7,7000 list. The interesting back story for this car is it was purchased from a dealership in western Ohio. Lots of high-end undercoating evidence. Even though I am a good ol' Texas boy, I spent about 10 years on the Ohio / PA border , so I can appreciate the value of a quality rust prevention application.
At some point, the car was purchased by a small Florida Olds dealer and it sat in that showroom for quite some time. It is reported that it only had just over 10,000 miles in 2008. I purchased it a few months ago at just over 47,000 miles. So, it has been driven a bit since then.
The engine (Rocket 350) was rebuilt in 2017 with a mild cam, Dart heads, SRP flat top pistons, crank reground and the Gots To Do. 0.030" bore. To top it off, she sports a Holley Sniper EFI. In addition, the original rear end was replaced with a factory correct 3.08. She sports an aluminum 4-core radiator. The A/C wasn't quite up to our North Texas standards so we added an oversized condenser custom mounting brackets & electric fan. She is hard pressed to run over 190F and seldom exceeds 185F.
Factory 8-track and radio still works but, I added a modern radio with USB and remote. I installed it in the small, forward, console compartment with the pull-down cover. This radio is a nautical style and is around 3-inches in diameter. I / we fabricated a mounting bracket and neatly installed it into the cubby hole and can still pull down the cover to keep it out of sight when not being used.
I, also, installed a back up camera and made a bracket for the Sniper Monitor. It is now located over the clock area. The only other thing I have added to date is an extended accelerator cable bracket to smooth out the harsh acceleration characteristics of the Sniper. Super smooth now. Then came new after market wheels as the one that came on the car were horrendous.
She has already picked up Best In Class awards at the two car shows she has entered. As a side note She was entered in Best '70s Class and my '0 Nova in Best Original. Both won. In another show, She was in Best '70s and my '72 El Camino (Now Sold) in Best Truck. Both won.
So...fun times in North Texas. Pictures to follow.

Welcome, That's a beautiful car!!! Always loved the Salons! A girlfriend of mine also has a gorgeous white one,no t-tops though. I went through it bumper to bumper for her back in '09. Hers has 43k on it. I upgraded a few things while it was apart, dual-gate conversion, aluminum intake, 3.08 gears with anti-spin. It's a great running car!!!

That is one cool car. Love the red / white combo. Mine had a repaint just last year. A couple of months ago I had her ceramic coated. Paint looks like you can stick your hand in it and swirl it around. LOL! Did the same with my Nova last year. October repaint. Let it cure out real good. then ceramic applied late February of this year. Then BAM! that red Nova really pops. "Red" is 95% original. Won 8 car shows in its classes this past year. A rare documented SS car.
I try to stay as original as I can stand with these historic beauties. I hate to be the one to break the seal...if you know what I mean?
This Cutlass is awesome to drive. The suspension / handling difference between "Whitey" and "Red" is night and day. I bought the Cutlass for a road trip car. Long Hauling The Hot Rod Power Tour is on my bucket list. If I don't make that, in 2020 or 2021, I will likely hit Cruising The Coast. If that doesn't work out I am just going to point East and head to Florida for a long run there and back.
Unfortunately, The Power Tour starts in Norwalk, OH, next June, and instead of continuing West or dropping it to the South...they are ending the Tour NORTH in Madison WI. That makes me nervous of where it might end up in 2021. 2020 would be about a 3500 mile round trip run for me, as it is. Not sure if am that mad at it yet.
