New Cutlass

New Cutlass
I just picked up a 68 Cutlass Supreme. I am getting married in March so money is a little tight for anything big in performance. My plans are to make it a nice weekend cruiser. Mostly original. What do you think?

Its been 20 years since it has ran. The guy I bought it from was the 2nd owner, the first being his brother. But the battery died so he parked it. I have a lot of work to do before even trying to start it.

Looks pretty solid, congrats! I guess the original owner liked blue.
I love those '68 hoods with the "grilles" in them. Is that hood attached or just laying on top there? Motor/trans?
With some time and a little TLC, that baby will be a nice cruiser for you and your new bride. Best of luck with both!

Thank you. Seems like every car I get it is always blue lol. The hood is attach. If I am not mistaking the hood is a 442 even though its a supreme. Correct me if I am wrong. 350 and a 3 speed. I am excited to start the tune up and get the engine cranking.

My friend's dad had a '68 with that hood when I was growing up. Not a 442, don't recall if it was a Supreme. He used to have people leaving notes on the car all the time asking to sell the hood.

Welcome!
What part of Utah do you live in or are you having the car shipped to you ?
Also, I was wondering what the owner let it go for if you don't mind. I have been watching this car for a few years but the price just seemed high for condition to me.

That's a Cutlass S hood. It wasn't original to the car but its a lot more desireable. Looks like you're out west somewhere (Wyoming, I presume). You don't see 45 year old cars that have been sitting for 20 years looking like that around here. Nice score

Sorry if it has been awhile to post more pics. Oilfield and the wife are keeping me busy. I talked him down 2,000. The car is actually is amazing condition. Just dirty. Going to take a weekend and take my time and clean every inch.

Thank you very much! We got to talking and we both served in Tennessee for our missions, so I think that could of help. But I saw the ad about a year ago, and I wanted it and the "cutlass gods" told me I would own it one day, and about a year later here I am owning it lol.

That's an extremely cool car. I like all of the retro seventies accents it has. I'd keep as many of them as I could if it were my car, including the Cragers.
Congrats!!! And good luck with it.

Yay ! Another '68 !
Congratulations ! and a belated "Welcome to CO....!"
That's no problem ! Mine fired up pretty easily after sitting neglected for 18+ years....even on it's rotten gas...
If that's the orig engine w/orig 4 bbl, its a high comp 350. Great engine. Orig auto trans would be a 2 speed JetAway (think TH350 w/ no 1st gear).
Like allyolds68 said : Hoods not orig for a Supreme (could it be ordered as an option ?!?). Vent hood was used on 442s and Cutlass S 'verts.
I too like the 70's accents - Holed wheel & window cranks, pinstriping, Cragars, custom seats, etc...
Any idea on build date ? I ask because of the blue dash insert. Either someone painted it or it was a very late '68 build as the color keyed insert didn't officially appoear until '69.
Body looks in really good shape & love the color combo. Was the roof orig white (looks kinda silver in pics) ?
There's a few others on here with that combo. Look up user Defiant1. He has '70 in that color scheme that's beautiful (& he's in ND !)

The engine is original but the po Swapped the transmission for a th400. The vinyl is white. I do like the combo. It looks more silver but it was because it was wet at the time of the photo. I will check to see when the exact build was for the car and let you know. Thank you for the comments. I will keep an update.
