Leaking trunk

Hi, I have replaced the trunk seal on my 1970 Cutlass but it still leaks, not as bad as it did before though. Trunk closes correctly. Is there an adjustment ?

Thanks.

Check the bottom corners of your rear window.

You need to check everything in the trunk, I have a different year than you but I found the trunk seal leaked, the rear window leaked, one tail light leaked and there was a body seal that also leaked. So water can get in from many places.
Best thing to do is find someone you trust and get in the trunk with a flash light and have that someone run the garden hose around everything until you find the leak/leaks.

Put a thin layer of grease on your trunk seal, close it, and see if it completely transfers to the trunk. If it does, then get a bottle of water and pour it down on corner of your rear window, then do the opposite corner and check the trunk for any drips coming in. Pull your tail lights and put some sealer around the holes to the trunk. And lastly, pull your rear tires, and make sure that there are no small pinholes starting on the fender wells. A good way to do check the fender wells is wait until it is dark out, put a floodlight/trouble light shining into the fender wells, then look inside the trunk for any light coming through anywhere.

In my case it was the tail lights. Replaced the seals no leaks

All good ideas and a light inside the trunk works well also. If water testing, work slowly from the lowest point (tail lights) to highest point (rear window).

Mine does the same thing. I put chamois towels in the trunk where the water drips to mitigate the issue.

I noticed the water enters the gap between trunk lid and rear window trim and follows the underside of the trunk lid until it deposits in the area on either side of the trunk latch (and of course anywhere else it may drip along the way.

Where did you purchase your trunk seal?

I had a very small gap in the weld in the upper right corner. It let in a surprising amount of water. I paint the entire weld with rust paint, sealed it and then painted it.

Sometimes you can persuade the trunk lip (body side) with a hammer and block of wood.
