Good Price?

I never brought a tranny for a car before and I was wondering if this is a good price and if there is any questions I should ask this seller? Plus will this fit in my car? I remember reading somewhere where it said this is the same size as the jetaway. I have a 1969 cutlass S with a 350 rocket and a jetaway in it right now. Thanks

Here is the listing

The T400 in the adv. will not fit your car. It is for a Chevrolet, you need one out of a Buick, Pontiac, or and Olds.

Also the T400 is not the same length of your current trans, so the transmission cross member would have to be moved back, you would need a shorter driveshaft with a different yoke, and you will have to mod your e-brake cables.

I have a TH400 for sale in NH
I have the Torque Converter too, I have no info on this other than I bought a motor and this came with it . It did have a Hurst Shifter attached (gone now) It drove strong and shifted fine. I cleaned it and threw some paint on it.
$150 come and get it....

Anyone know if this would bolt up to a 350 without any need for modifications? I think plenty of us have the th350 setup and are thinking of throwing a TH400 in there.

Are these hard things to do? Will it be easy to find the parts?

Very easy, just time, money, and a little bit of skill. There are many posts referring to this swap.

PJ, I would think the holes for the cross member have already been drilled in the chasis, I am not a 100% sure the cross member is the same I think so. that said that part of the swap is fairly easy. I would think somebody here has a drive shaft from a 68-69 442 these all came with turbo 400's, and I assume you could order the proper e brake cable for a 69 442 auto and this is a straight forward swap. other will chime in with more expert advice.

If you are running a mild engine a turbo 350 should be fine and is an easier swap. Plus you'll have less parasitic power loss compared to a 400.
Another thing to keep in mind if you go to a 400 is that you'll need to hook up an electronic kick down. On my '70 the wiring was there in the harness. IDK about other years.

Sounds like a bit more work than i had hoped, i'll probably just change my shift-shaft seal and leave the 350 in there.

Thanks for the info though.

Unless you will be adding a material amount of power over stock a 350 in good condition will be fine.

Also, it goes without saying, but an external cooler like a B&M is always a good idea. heat is your transmission's arch enemy.

I have a standard out of the box 350 rocket with 4bbl.

The only problem with my current setup is the shift shaft seal is leaking. I already have the seal, i just have to install it. I guess installing a new transmission would require quite a bit more work..

I'm going to change the pan gasket and filter while i'm under there.

You could say that.

An RV shift kit would do wonders for the T350 and make it last longer. Can be done while you change the filter.

You will have to put a cable for the kick down on it too . You can swap out the tail shaft cover with the speedo gears so your reading the right speed if it is correct now. the lines
will have to have alittle bending to get hooked back up , or at least mine did . The shifter will have to be swapped out for a three detent I used my two speed for a year or so but was not wright and started to brake. I used shiftworks kit to keep it all looking stock Was not the best but works ok . You can get a Three speed set up from a 442 that will look stock and work better IMO .

The previous owner had a "stage 1" hurst shift kit installed. I have the box in the trunk of the car.

Is there anything special i should pay attention to since the shift kit was installed? Or do i still follow the steps in the CSM to replace the shift shaft seal??

I'm really looking forward to having a transmission that doesn't leak.
