Gas Sending Unit

I have been procrastinating on getting my fuel gauge working again. Finally today I grounded the wire from the gas gauge and sure enough, the gauge went straight to E. So (correctly me if I'm wrong) this is telling me that the gas sending unit is probably broken and I need a new one. Can someone help me find the exact part that I need? Got a 70 SX 455. I tried going over to advance auto parts and couldn't really shift through the choices so I figured I would come to you experts.

Thanks again.

It could be the sender, or it could just be that the ground wire from the sender to the body has gone bad. Clean the lug and mounting location where the ground wire is bolted to the body. If that doesn't work, I've also had the crimp where the ground wire attaches to the sender get corroded. Unfortunately, that means dropping the tank for access.

Looks like I'm going to have to drop the tank regardless :-/. If I do need to change the part... would this do:

And is it as easy and just connecting the wire?

drop the tank, undo the hoses, disconnect the wire(s). take out the unit go to the auto zone or rileys and have them match it up, should cost about $90.00 for a new one. put new hoses and clamps on it and hopefullt it's "fixed".
