Exterior Mirror
Are there repop driver side exterior mirror assemblies available for a 1969 Cutlass with the remote? Mine has no pitting, but the chrome is tired and would like to replace it. I can only find the non-remote version at the usual Olds parts outlets.
If not a repop item, can the unit be replated with, say, a bumper if I ever get that done?

Isn't the chrome '69 mirror the "thin profile" type mirror?....ie-the chrome body that the glass is mounted on to isn't real deep.
If so, my bet is there never was a remote version of THAT PARTICULAR mirror...there's nowhere to hide the cables, etc that make up the remote part. Your mirror, if it's this "thin profile" type, doesn't have a larger SEPARATE housing around the mirror glass (like a '70 and later has) and also the pedestal pivot mount ball is exposed where it sits in the mirror body.
If there WAS a remote chrome mirror that year then it would be the much larger/deeper bodied version like a 1970 mirror. The "thin profile" '69 chrome mirrors are just too cool looking to replace with a much larger mirror IMO.
You would need to get a junk mirror, break out the glass and see how the pivot ball is retained inside the mirror body. The pedestal and body would need to be separated for rechroming and you'd want to first make sure that is easily do-able on a junk mirror.

Mirror
Well, I looked at the mirror a little more closely tonight and attached some pics. The flash made the finish look worse than it is, but I noticed it did have a few big pits in the exterior plating.
It is definitely a remote mirror, but can't say if it is the "thin profile" version you referenced, Patton. For what its worth, it appears to be identical to the unit displayed in the 69 Assembly manual at Sec 1-4 page 121. It is hard to tell from the pics, but the mirror does not have a frame holding the glass portion within the outer shell, and pivots from within the outer shell.
At first glance, I don't see a way to separate the glass from the frame without breaking it.
I think this goes in the "live with it" file for until I either find a suitable used replacement or get some other chrome plating work done.

IIRC the mirror body does NOT pivot on that ball. I would bet the mirror body and support could be re-chromed. I don't know any aftermarket places that have repopped that style of mirror. They are very nice when they are 'fresh'. There is no remote matching mirror for the right side - just the thin one Patton was referencing. That at least is re-popped. From Fusick:
SM6865L 1968-69 Left Mirror 64.50
SM6865R 1968-69 Right Mirror 64.50
SM6865L 1968-69 Left Mirror 64.50

The mirrors Allan referenced above are the thin/low profile mirrors I was referring to. The pic that you posted of your original mirror looks similar to the non-sport-mirror chrome mirrors that would have come on a '70 Cutlass or 442 as well.
