Exhaust Manifold Removal 72 Cutlass

Is it possible to remove the Exhaust Manifold on 72 Cutlass without raising the engine. Looks near impossible to get to the bolts near the crossmember.

If your taking about the flange, yes with a long extension from the bottom. Sometimes a torch to heat the nuts is recommended.

The flange stud is where I screwed up. During flange gasket replacement ATTEMPT, I broke the outer flange stud. Tryin' to decide whether to attempt to drill the stud out from underneath or take the manifold off and do it on a bench.

Unless you have exhaust leaks at the manifold/head you want to fix also, I’d suggest trying to remove the stud with the manifold installed. Chances are some bolts will break off in the head, adding to the headache.

There is no "flange gasket" to replace on a 1972 Cutlass.
