Center hood moulding

I'm a brand new member, so may be a little clumsy using this site. I have a 70 Cutlass supreme that has undergone a complete body off restore on to a rust free Texas frame. I have had most of the shiny bits rechromed and am looking for a center hood moulding in great shape. Mine is sound but quite pitted, and my platers want 500 bucks to restore it. I,m wondering if someone who has turned a supreme holiday coupe into a 442 might want to sell one. I live in Kitchener Ontario Canada. Thanks

nice to see a fellow Canuck on CO..welcome!

have you tried any other platers? $500 seems a tad high for a simple piece like that!

That piece is pot metal and to correctly refinish that part requires that each pit be ground out to the base metal, followed by a copper plating and hand filling each of these ground out pits with solder. The solder must then be hand ground and sanded to match the original contour, at which point the part is ready to be replated. Estimates that are much lower should be viewed very skeptically.

Plating a straight, umblemished hood spear would not be that expensive. Fixing all the pits properly is where the cost comes from. That's a whole lot of hand labor.
