aren't 71-72 bumpers in good condition relatively easy to find ? Sure, you may need a rechrome but it least it's the original thing....

I'm not keen on used bumpers, even after refurbing. Invariably, the center area has bumped too many walls and is almost always pushed in to some degree. I've seen this even after straightening and re-plating. I'd rather just go with new (even if it's repro) and not have to hassle with a less than perfect piece. I'm just looking for advice on reputable suppliers. Thanks!!

Hurstman several vendors offer reproductions. I’ve heard they are thinner than factory stuff. Probably because its off shore junk. I don’t know about you but I can’t bring myself to do that to American muscle or the US economy.
I have always had mine re-chromed with great results. Just ask around or go to a couple of local shows and ask. Triple plating is the only way to go.
NorthStar Chrome out of the Twin cities area does some great show chrome.

I was very happy with the service that the quality that Ogden Chrome provided.
They were very competitively priced and my bumpers were picked up and delivered...

Call Ogden!

Well I have to disagree with you on this one. I bought repro rear cutout bumper from Tamraz years back. Folks then said the same thing: cheap plating and cheap offshore junk. I took a chance.
1. The bumper is the same gage steel
2. The bumper weighs about the same
3. The plating is high quality
4. It fits like its supposed to
5. Price was 379.00 + the ride so it cost me over 500. I could NOT get a core shipped to me and plated for anywhere close to that. And back then, good luck getting a core.

71/72 Front bumpers are fairly plentiful. You can choose your vendor. I have NO TROUBLE RECOMMENDING Tamraz for bumpers.

I don't have any experience with this particular vendor, however, they were recommended to me by someone who does frame-off restorations of Oldsmobiles and GTO's. Vendor/manufacturer = Dynacorn

My front bumper is from the parts place. 3 years old and has hairline cracks in the chrome. ALOT! Not happy. If I keep it polished with a wheel, it looks good. Who knows what you are getting these day's.

I agree with Allan about Tamraz bumpers. First let me say that I took my original bumpers on my 72 to a bumper shop and they did a great job straighting them and rechroming them. In fact they did what I would consider a show quality job. I then decided that I want a rear bumper with the cut out so I called Tamraz. They advised me they had 2 different price bumpers, one that was plated and chromed overseas and the other that was made overseas but plated and chromed here. I decided to purchase the one plated here. I had read from others that the quality was not the same on repro bumbers, and it was thinnerl I can tell you that I placed the bumper that I purchased from Tamraz side by side with my original rechromed bumper. There was no difference in the quality in my opinion and I examined it very closely and objectively. I also could not find any difference in the weight therefore confirming that the metal had to be the same thickness.

Im just a stickler for keeping the jobs here vs over-seas. The other day I had to search for USA front wheel bearing/race/seal hardware. They were either indian or chineese. Im not doing that to an American muscla car. The difference in price for everything when said and done, $12 offshore vs USA! No brainer. The other big plus for using a local plater is I have had to send bumpers back for different issues from time to time. The plater I use picks them up fixes what ever the problem is(there has been few with the many I send to them) and drops them off in a rather timley manor. So plus plus IMO.
