I found this discussion from 2005, I'll try a little more. There are a couple of people on this site that might have more info. Hopefully they'll chime in.
Reading on another forum, GMO was a regional special edition offered in the Chicago area (Gallant Men of Olds). The car I am looking at is in downstate IL so that would make sense I guess. The code is Y76.
Apparently there were many regional dealer codes in the mid 70s. The car is $12500, a red Cutlass Supreme with white split vinyl roof and opera windows. The SBS option is what I like .
Yes, GMO is a Y-76 car. Like stated above, stood for Gallant Men of Olds.
Joe's pics from the brochures above are perfect to explain what they were.
Dealers got them as a promotional thing based on geographic location. Based on the Cutlass S, they had the fastback roof line. It should not be a Cutlass Supreme. They had argent SSIIIs. They had chrome sport mirrors. Some had special badging or decals. I have always had a soft spot for the Y-76 cars.
The red with white top has to look amazing. If you can post up some pics!
