78 Calais new engine question

My poor Calais, so pretty on the outside, just died on the inside. It has the original 2bbl 231 Buick V6. Do I understand correctly that if I want to put a V8 in, I will have to have to weld in new motor mounts put in?

Or, should I try to keep it cheap and slow with V6 swap?

Thanks for any advice!

Every brand of GM motor uses different frame mounts. If you want to put an Olds motor in place of your Buick V6, yes you need to change the frame mounts. These bolt in, however. No welding is required. The frame mounts for Olds V8s are the same on all 1978-1988 A/G body cars and also on all 1977-1990 RWD B?C body cars, so they are pretty common. Once you get the correct frame mounts, use Anchor P/N 2328 motor mounts to install the motor.

Great info, thanks. And frame mounts is exactly what I was referring to. Now the quest is on for a new engine....

The mounts you want look like this. Note that they are different RH/LH.

My suggestion would be to grab the mounts and a wiring harness from a 78 to early 80 A body that came with a 260 because that is where you'll find the correct frame mounts and wiring so you don't have to hack up yours to make it all work. I don't know that anyone is reproducing the harnesses for your era car....yet.
