76 Cutlass S filler panel?

Car at title, 76 Cutlass S. Are these originals or not?
They are somewhat craked, and collecting stones in between of them and body. When googling and looking pictures, some has these, some dont. Whats the story behind?

Heres a picture. That small, cracked and warped golden-coloured plastic part protecting(?) rear-wheel well from flying debris from front tires.

I remember seeing these years both with and without that stone shield but I remember seeing them more on Supremes. Don't recall seeing them on 4 doors or the other Colonnades, but I think I have seen Olds Colonnade sedans with a piece of clear plastic film on the rear dogleg.

I also have them on my 76 Cutlass Supreme. I think they're for protecting against debris flying from the outside area of the tire in front of it.... can't really think of any other use..
I know you can get new ones (have to paint them to match, though, they come in primer grey), I had to buy some new bumper filler pieces and saw those as well, so I'd guess they are part of factory originals. I don't think they hurt anything if you decide to run without them, though.

My 77 does not have them. Never had them as my car has been in family from day 1.
