72 Cutlass Convertible Trunk Opens When Driving

My 72 cutlass trunk keeps opening by itself while i'm driving.mostly when i'm going over bumps.....i have sprayed white lithium grease in the latch to make sure the potential rust binding can be rules out and it stopped for a day and then started back.......i haven't tried adjusting the little thingy that the latch actually latches to.....it looks like it can be adjusted.......any ideas?anyone.....thanks!

Yes, you can adjust the the latch and that's likely what you'll need to do.

You've got two choices: Either the latch isn't locking completely or it isn't grabbing the striker fully.

I'd confirm the action of the latch first, by latching it with the trunk open, like against a screwdriver or something, and then trying to pop it and see if it releases.

If the latch holds firmly, then confirm its engagement with the striker and adjust as necessary.

Have you tried letting the guy hiding in there out?

Lol!Just a update guys!I tried the screwdriver but couldnt get it to unlatch itself but when I latched it while the trunk was open and snagged the latch with a pair of plyers back and fourth, it would unlatch itself....after about 7 good back and fourths......So the latch must be bad....New one ordered! Thanks Eric and the rest of u guys!....I'll even update yaw on if it persist when I install the new one!
