69 vert boot quandry

Hey,
Did the boots always come originally tucked into the chrome molding around the outside of the well? Mine has snaps screwed into the chrome molding and corresponding snaps on the boot. The top is not original and this setup was probably done then. I've seen the descriptions of "tuck strip", but I thought that was at the front of the boot on the top of the rear seat back, which mine does have. I've seen on the Legendary interior site that they comment that if snaps are needed they have to be attached to the replacement, or something to that effect. Would a new "as original" boot work with what I have or would I need to replace the chrome molding or maybe just attach snaps to the new boot?
Thanks, Rob

On mine, underneath the front of the boot slides thru a channel behind the back seat and the back has some plastic strips that tuck under the chrome. There are only 2 snaps at the top of the rear seat side pannel.

Thumbs down Snapper

The '66 and '67 converts used snaps screwed into the chrome and in '68 they used plastic clamps over the chrome strip and I think '69 was the same. Then in '70 they started using the plastic strip that you tuck in under the chrome...soo if you want to use the tuck strip style unscrew the snaps and use your new system...however you will have the screw holes to deal with when the roof is up, maybe seal with silicone...the tuck strip style fits a lot better than the plastic clamp style which will deteriorate with exposure to the sunlight and break...

The 69 uses the tuck strip type boot not the clamp type. when I bought my car it had a clamp style boot with it and it didn't work well on the chrome on my car. I boutht the correct tuck strip type which just has flat plastic tabs around the back edge and outside sides of the boot that simply slide under the chrome and hold down the boot. Yes there are a couple of snaps on the inside over the 1/4 panels, and over the rear seat on the inside there is a channel that you slide a spline that is attached to your boot into to hold that section. The new boot that I bought last year attaches quite easily. I purchased mine from OPGI.

spring shower

While we are on the subject. If a shower pops up, is it Ok to leave the boot in the channel and just pop out the plastic tuck strips and fold the boot over the back seat. The reason I ask is because sliding the boot tru the channel is a pain.

I have not yet taken mine out of the channel on the rear of the seat and just let it hang into the well when the top is up. You can't really tell it's there unless you look but I don't know if it has any effect on the boot.
