Sounds like power source for starter and ignition-while-cranking, respectively. There's a good wiring schematic, in color, in the chassis service manual for 67.

this is the set of wires. you must be correct, cuz when i would wiggle em, id either get a stall or a no start. i appreciate your time. i think i need to clean this plug well, and make sure it stays plugged, it was half way undone

I don’t know what the purple wire goes to, but the red wires power everything inside the cabin to include power to the ignition switch. If wiggling that connection is causing issues, you will probably find yourself broken down on the side of the road. You need to install a junction block and put terminals on the wire ends.

Purple wire comes from the neutral safety switch and goes to the start side of the starter solenoid.

Can't stress this enough. If you're going to go through it w/ a fine tooth comb - it's essential you own the CSM and the original wiring diagram. Plenty of them out there starting @ $15 - grab one.

The purple wire for the nss originates at the ign switch then goes through the nss, then through the bulkhead connector, and then straight to the starter S terminal. It did not connect to the horn relay.

I have had no start problems myself. I found the problem to be dirty contacts in the plug shown in the picture. I cleaned the connectors in the plug and have not had a problem since.
