I have a '65 cutlass convertible that someday I hope to have the time to restore. I have decided that I will be putting new technology into it for the motor/trans.
That said, are they worth anything? At this point they are just sitting around outside the car taking space and I'd damn near give it away to someone who wanted to use them.

A rebuild would definitely be needed. The car hadn't been started in almost 20 years when I got it a few years ago. It is not locked up.

Thoughts?

 

 

Restore and putting new technology don't go together.

 

If you keep an Olds engine in it, your resale value and pool of prospective buyers will be a lot larger.

 

All of this is from my weak memory. We used to race a '64 Cutlass 330 convertible in the late sixties in, I believe C/SA (before the classes changed). It had the Jetaway 2-speed trans, Casler slicks and headers and turned in the low 14s. Other than that it was stock. We were unfortunate to be in a class with a local '59 Plymouth 383 with dual quad ram induction (where the carbs sat over the shocks!) called "The Spoiler" that ran on the National Record, around 13.80s. He won stock eliminator about every week and we won 2nd place in class . Bottom line? The engine performs respectably, even with the Jetaway.

At some point the original 2 speed jetaway was replaced with a 3 speed.

 

That garbage can will haul A$$!

 

Multi-port EFI'd, roller-cammed, aluminum-headed, 4-inch stroked, 4-speed OD automatic, OLDS power! If it was easy, everyone would do it!

 

Very nice. Have you had it on a dyno? Any idea of the power? What about fuel economy?

 

I live at 7000 ft elevation so these numbers may not be available at this altitude.

 

Wow! Those are fantastic numbers! I bet it is a blast to drive.

If I ever build one myself, I know who to ask for suggestions.
