3 questions

Thought I would ask 3 questions on one post: #1. Why do I see the majority of 350 motors with the air cleaner snorkel on the passenger side? My '72 has it on the driver side. Is it because of the A/C? #2. I saw a '72 Supreme with the louvered hood. Was this an option? #3. I thought 455's were only available with the SX package for the year 1970 ( A-body cars ) I have seen Cutlasses of that year with the big block, but not an SX. Also an option?

Thanks, Chumley

Three questions

All the Cutlass/442's I've seen have the hot air pipe connected from the passengerside exhaust manifold to the snorkle of the air cleaner. I think that's the only reason it would matter, to help the engine warm up when you first start it.

The 1971 and 1972 could have the chrome louver inserts in the hood. I don't know enough to say why some have this hood and others are flat, but I have had both 1971 and 1972 Cutlass'es with that hood on them.

Yes, I've seen the 455 in different models in 1970. I think you could have it as an option in most if not all models that year. John

um...I am thinking the 442's and HO's had the double scoop fiberglass hoods? Have not ever seen a 442 without one. NOT saying that none exist with the louvered hood....just never saw one.

I have seen the louvered hoods on S and SX models and SX was a Supreme

#1. I think your air cleaner housing is not original.

#2. The OAI (Outside Air Induction [fiberglass double scoop hood]) was option W-25 and could be ordered on any Cutlass. The chrome "fake louvers" were 71-72 442 and Cutlass 'S'. Of course, with the right "grease", you could pretty much order anything for anything...like with Ch#y's COPO codes.

#3. 455s were the big block option which could be ordered on any car.

Thanks for all the input. I believe because of the A/C equipment on the passenger side, there is no way the air cleaner snorkel could fit over there. The heat stove looks right at home on the left (driver side) exhaust manifold. Guess it's just one of those rarities, although I would think there are a lot more A/C cars out there where this would show up. Oh well.......

My 69 350 has the A/C on the passenger side and the snorkel on the passenger side.
