1971 Cutlass - New to the Forums
What's up guys? I've been lurking in the corners reading up as much as I can. Well the day has come and I finally took the keys to a 1971 Cutlass.
So here's the story, my Grandma bought the car brand new in 1971, my Uncle bought it from her in '78 and being in high school at the time, made it into a "MUSCLE CAR", or at least what he could afford to do at the time. Check the pics, you'll see some of the stuff. My Dad bought it in '81, new paint job and dyed the top black and drove it here and there. The car basically has sat since '84 other than a random cruise here and there. Car hasn't been licensed since 2000. So then comes me. Graduated from the University of Akron and the cutlass made a sweet grad gift.
I'm still figuring out what the car has and what not, but here's what I can tell ya: Olds 350, Cam, TH350, Headers, Exhaust, Holley Carb, Edlbrock Intake, Air Ride Rear Shocks, Stock Gears.
Starts like a champ and runs just fine. I've been doing all the "drive-ability" stuff the last 2 weeks, brakes, master cylinder (as you can see from the picture, I had a bit of a leak, hoses, fluids and just overall cleaning her up.
Picked the car up about 2 weeks ago, BTW, stopped at Summit Racing on the way home just to look, since it's about 20 min from home, and had to get a picture of it with the sign in the background.
Just wanted to shout out to everyone.

Welcome and congrats on graduating and the car. Cars that have always been in the family are special. I like the color combo. This is a great website and handsdown the best Olds site in the world. Lots of good folks here who know a lot and are more than glad to help. We enjoy having members of the younger generation enjoying Oldsmobiles.

Akron.....it's not just for rubber anymore!!
I used to live in Akron for 28 years of my life and was able to perfect my addiction to the mighty big block 455 Oldsmobile. I grew up in a suburb called Manchester that was close to Akron. I have many fond memories of growing up there and able to live the life I did there. My grandfather worked at B.F. Goodrich for over 30 years. I only put Radial T/A's on all my musclecars to this day (even though they throw rocks like a pissed off 12 year old) I met a guy that grew up there in Manchester about 2 years ago at the campground I hang out on the weekends close to my house here in upstate South Carolina we had many mutual friends growing up but never did meet each other. We're best friends now and hang out often during the summer. There was a dealer there in Akron on Main St (back in the mid 70's) that was called Martin Motors, me and my friends would go there and drool on the beautiful southern cars in the showroom (BB Chevelles, Camaro's, GTO's and Skylarks. We always went big time for the GM's and especially the Oldsmobiles, as we always rode in 442's for well over 10 years in the mid to late seventies. They were always show condition and fast as hell. I had many fond memories of my buddy sending me to the store to pick up cigs and feeling the awesome Olds power push me back in the seat as the secondaries started opening up and the gas guage tumbled down. Well it was 80 cents a gallon back then. Now I have 2 Olds BB cutlass and 442 convertibles. Just as much in show condition as back in the day. Welcome to the board and good luck with the car. Hope you are enjoying life there as much as I always did. If there's anythign we here at CO just drop a line. Good luck with the car looks like an oldie but a goodie. Oldsdroptop
