Not what you want to come home to.
Not what you want to come home to.
Got back here tonight around 10:30 only to find some lowlife bastard had pushed the window A/C unit thru the back bedroom window and rifled me pretty hard. They got two of my rings, ALL of Mama's rings, a couple pieces of small gold jewelry and my change jar. Plus they tore hell out of every drawer in the house. They even pushed the mattress off the bed.
They left the TV and stereo and my Fossil wristwatch. Looks like they tried to jack my laptop as it was unplugged from both the power strip and the phone line.
Thought they'd swiped a pad of blank checks but looking closer they did not.
Cop just left and he said they're seeing this schit every day now. They have descriptions of all the jewelry in case any of it shows up in pawn shops. They did much better this time. When I got broken into in spring 2007, they told me I'd be better off turning it in to my insurance. Like I had any idea how much money was in that change jar at that time.
I hate a thief worse than anything. I really wish I could get that other house finished and get the hell out of this city. What concerns me is they've been in here and seen stuff, and I wonder when they'll be back.
And do you know the theiving bastard closed the window behind him?!
So how was your day and welcome home?

Ouch! Sorry to hear what happened! I agree, our society can't function when there's people behaving like that running around. So far I've never been broken into, but my brother up in Eugene had it happen three times in two years. One time the front door had been kicked in shattering the door jam, that's the first thing he saw as he pulled into the driveway. I hate to think we all have to get a big dog, a big mean dog to watch our place when we're gone. But sometimes it seems like that's what it will take
I hate thieves !
Sorry to hear about your burglary but I have a suggestion if the jewelry that was stolen is sentimental to you. I would go look at the "gold for cash" stores in your area that give the largest dollar return per gram. Most of the pawn shops are now doing this but there are specific coin shops that have advertised giving top dollar to any scum bag that shows up with a handful of jewelry, no questions asked !
The bad guy hands over the jewelry and gets paid on the spot so they can go out and get their dope. The guy taking the jewelry usually doesn't ask a whole lot of questions and may just be a middle man, taking all the jewelry to the shop himself. Whoever is taking the jewelry will have basic equipment to determine whether or not the gold is actually real or just simply take a scope and look at the 24K or 14K engravings. In some places these "coin" shops operate just like pawn shops and are required by law to hold recently purchased jewelry for up to 30 days and report the items to the local PD. Most of the time these shops are intentionally vague about describing items they take in so that what you report to them doesn't always match what they have.
Either way, if it's worth it to you I would go check right away. Typically the bad guy is in a big hurry to get rid of the "booty" and you could probably time it within an hour of your burglary when the dummies go to the coin / pawn shop to unload their loot. I saw that you described some of the jewelry as your mothers. That in itself would motivate me to TCB.
I know what kind of sinking feeling you get when this happens and then the anger kicks in and you want to do something about it. I don't know what your neighborhood is like but you might want to start asking the kids in the neighborhood as they seem to pay more attention to whats going on then the adults. Some of the younger adults would probably even provide some information if there was a twenty dollar bill in it for them.

Just a week ago a guy tried to break into my next door neighbor's house... I heard her yelling and I went out and saw the low life in her driveway. I didn't know the whole circumstance so I forced him off the property. She is asian and with how excited she was her english was not serviceable at all... AFTER I made the guy leave she manages to communicate that he was in her backyard, trying to open the back door with a sock on his hand! Had I known that I would have made him STAY. A few days later I ordered myself a shotgun. Mr. Remington will do the talking from now on.

I agree 100 % about Mr. Remington. That is one thing about living in Japan, don't see too many break ins. Hope you find your stuff and they get the low life and put him/her where they belong.
Had a chance to look closer this morning after what little sleep I got. They got some silver coins too- basically every recognition award I've gotten in 32 years at work. Slipped 'em out of their cases and then put the empty boxes back exactly where they were. I'm thinking a pro did this and probably spent a little time in here.
The trouble here is I no longer know my neighbors, and they all work during the day too.
Looks like I'll be visiting pawn shops today.

I agree with Mr. Remington protection system. I've been using the Two brothers personal security and home protection system for years. Brothers Smith and Wesson have intervened on a few occaisons over the the years.
We were broken into a number of times when I was a kid in NY - you never get used to it, but you DO run out of stuff they can easily carry
. The junkies always eat all the candy.
Another time in NY, my wife was home alone, heard the dog going crazy, and rushed into the livingroom to find the dog chasing a big Rasta-looking guy (NOT anyone from around our neighborhood) out the front door. The dog chased him all the way down the block - and she weighed 20 pounds.
Up here, pretty much everybody is insured by the Smith & Wesson Agency, and I've got to say you almost never hear of break-ins (though tourists will occasionally wander in and use the bathroom
)
I thought in Japan, you guys were protected by Ninjas
.

Depending on where you're located, and how far the next towns with pawn shops are, get pictures to them too. Thieves usually don't sh*t in their own backyard. They'll go a town/neighborhood or 2 over, rob stuff, go to another area (still not where they are from), pawn/fence the stuff, and then head home. They may be low-life thieves, but most of them have done this before, and they have a routine/pattern. If you can break the pattern, you might stand a chance of getting stuff back. Not very likely, but if there's any chance of it happening, it's by the owner's legwork anymore, not the local PD. They are too understaffed and underpaid. The economy has everything screwed up so badly. I'm sorry to hear about this. I hear too many stories like this and worse from my brother all the time. He carries a badge...
Another idea is to go out to Bass Pro Shops. Get one of the deer cams. The cheap ones that are around $50. Set it up outside in a tree where it will only go off if there's someone/something in your side yard. Not set off by motion from cars, etc.
It won't protect you, but it can gather evidence if the idiots come back for more. Chances are they won't, as they know that once they hit a spot, people are going to be very careful/watchful after that. Very glad to hear that with the stable you have listed in your sig, that you didn't have to report a GTA as well. I assume the keys to some of those were easily available to anyone in your house as well. Get a strongbox. Steel. Good lock. secure it to the foundation somewhere and hide the location as best as you can in the process. A nice large gun locker or toolbox works well too. Something too heavy to cart off easily, and can't be opened by a crackhead/junkie. They want the easy score and to get out quickly. There's another pattern I hear about as well. Once this happens, the owner goes out and buys guns. Thieves know this, and will come back later (couple weeks sometimes) and steal the new firearms. Also check the medicine cabinets. See if they stole anything there. If they know you have any prescriptions that have "street value/use" they will keep an eye on the place if there were recent refills, as they will usually be able to come back for more. Society's going down the drain in some places here in the US, and the gubment doesn't have the money or resources to protect the citizens. It's up to you to protect yourself. It sucks, but that's what's happening. If you're in too bad of an area, pack up and move the hell out to the country where folks know their neighbors, and hunt regularly. Most thieves stay the hell out of that type of situation. I don't think I could ever live in a city again.

I sure hate to hear that rocketraider
I pray you get your stuff back and they catch the scumbag that did this. There is no room in this world for lowlifes that steal from another. Sure do wish all of this would end but like 501paratrooper says, the school year is coming to an end and it's only going to get worse. Around these parts most of the thieves are around the 15-24 y/o range. I bet if they cut their hand off they wouldn't do it again.

You have my sympathy, Rockettrader.........when the '92 was stolen 2 years ago, I personally felt violated, helpless, and mad as hell! Had I walked up on the event, no doubt my 230 pounds would have been in instant action beatin' the C*** out of him/them. When the CCR finally recovered (2 1/2 months later in a plowed field/grove of trees/40 miles east of the house), it was trashed, of course, and the banger(s) had the front seats all the way down/back to enable them to drive from the back of the longroof! Initially, I wanted to replace the whole interior of the car, just because of the scum that had sat in it. Professional detaililng helped, after all. Hope you find your valuables, soon, and they go to jail; perhaps they will try someone else that will already have the well known protection of the Brothers (S & W) and get what they deserve. Crazy, crazy world we live in.
Lead poisoning works as a deterrent as well. Just remember the words "I was afraid for my life" and make sure they are inside your house. Don't talk to the cops other than to say this phrase and demand to speak to a lawyer, otherwise, you may be the one going to the "greybar hotel"
I tend to agree, a thief or burglar isn't much more than a coward. Although I would be just as 'angry' if confronted by someone face to face trying to rob me, at least they would have the cajones to face me. Cowards are despicable.
As said earlier, that sucks big time. I worry about this every time I leave my wife alone and go out of town. Home invasion during the day is rising around here. They don't seem to care if your home or not. They beat down the door tie you up and beat the crap out of you and then steal stuff and trash the house before they leave. Almost makes you want to carry when you're at home.
man , maybe its just me , but it seems this world is full of greedy , selfish , ignorant , lazy people that were never taught the right way to be , and thats why they do crap like this
.....really pisses me off....reminds me of when crooks broke into my 92 Cavalier I had years ago , to steal the AC Delco cassette deck , when I got out to my car in the morning , and seen a hole poked through the metal on the door right above the lock , and then looked in to see the stereo gone....I actually started laughing , cause I coudnt beleive someone would steal a stock stereo.

I had a Ford Aspire that I used to drive back and forth to work. The lock was broken but the car didn't even have a radio in it. So kids I guess, broke in...actually just opened the door and looked in the glove compartment only to find the manual. They didn't break anything and even shut the door so the interior light went off. They left the manual along with a $50 gift card to Red Lobster! So I took the family out for supper that night. In this case, who says crime doesn't pay? They probably snatched the card from a neighbour. I asked around, but no one said they were missing anything.
Sorry to hear about this happening. It really sucks. Some people have little to no respect for others' property.
Shoot one in the ceiling or high on the wall when you are done if any of you ever catch one red handed....that was your "warning shot".

About three years ago, three punks ripped off a GMC one-ton, with a car trailer (not to mention the1937 Packard inside the tailer).
The jerks got caught, tried to pawn thePackard for $30-$35,000.
