Just read an article. There was approximately 67,000 servicemen in Hawaii on December 7th 1941. Just 16 are left. All are over 100 and only 2 were able to return for ceremonies. God bless them all.

Thanks for the post!
The great generation is the reason we live free...

I'm having trouble getting this message through to the youngest generation just coming out of high school going into college (alpha gen). Put Gen Z in this boat too.
As part of the curriculum to graduate it should be required to watch Pacific, Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan et al... to see the sacrifices made so they can have the privileges they have today. It truly pisses me off they have no clue and more so they don't seem to care. All it takes if a few generations to "forget." That allows unfavorable history to repeat.

Wouldn't hurt for all HS grads to be required to go into the military or civil service for at least two years. Learn where the bear shizts in the woods.
Uncle Sam taught me how to grow up and appreciate what we have. My grandparents and parents were the great generation.

So yes remember. But pass this message to the youngsters so history may not repeat.

Thanks for posting. I recently joined the American Legion and we just approved a vote to pay the annual dues for the WW II and Korean War veterans.

Thank you for sharing. When my Dad was still alive he would remind me of what day it was every year. It was his generation who fought in WWII.

I wouldn't blame the kids; they have the values they are given. To avoid sullying the thread, I will suffice to say that being "an American" is not one of the ways a young person will identify themselves, and many of them feel the country does not value them.

I read some last night on the salvage divers in Arizona. Stuff of nightmares, recovering needed parts and machinery in oil/water flooded compartments with an air line with zero visibility, by touch, while the fallen float in the overhead above you as nature takes its course. They tried to recover bodies and they were too far gone to be handled. They got what they needed, salvaged anything topside out of the water, and went on with the war. Dying at sea is worse than on land, and its a mercy from the sea that most sinkings happen in deep water to hide the evidence of her cruelty.
