I dug this picture out the other day. I have told you all I am the last of seven. This was a picture in front of our house. That is a 440 6 bbl Road Runner at the top of the driveway. That the 68 GTO and the 65 Tempest are all manual trans bench seat cars owned by my one brother. One of my other brother's 68 Chevelle has the hood up behind the New Yorker. One of the very few pictures of my brother's W-31. There were more cars on the side of the house. My 69 GTO a 69 SS 396 El Camino etc etc. Our neighbors loved us.
very cool. Aren't pictures from the past so nice to have? They spark memories that can never be erased.
Exactly. Like listening to a song that takes you to a place. My second oldest brother owned that W-31. I will never forget coming down the street after delivering my paper route and seeing that car. Warped me on Oldsmobile's forever. Holy crap that was no regular 350. That car pulled and pulled....
That car was the truth in the story about owned by an old lady. It was sick.
Looks like Arvada or around Colfax area in Denver? Where was this? The house and topography looks like that area of Denver..My dad used to get pissed at my brother and I as we would have two or three cars each in a varying states of repair..Tell-us get rid of a few of these…this isn’t a junk yard..lol. Interesting back in the 70’s I also owned a 67 GTO, 68 442, 68 Roadrunner, 57 wagon, 64 ss impala, 63 1/2 Ford galaxie 2 door hardtop factory 4 speed 390, 67 rs camaro,71 lemans sport, 68 mustang, 62 f85, 67 delmont 88, then the 80’s and a slew more of pontiac and oldsmobile..car crazy still
Yep the 70’s, thru 1982.. a few of the great old cars I owned. That 65 Goat was the fastest, it was hardly stock tho, 30 over 400, tripower, speed pro 11.1 forged pistons, balanced with speed pro stout hydraulic cam..When we built it we did file fit rings, a tad looser on bearing clearances, match portedtripoer intake to gasket and balanced. Car ran damnhard for the times
Andy. 65 Pontiac small body cars are one of my all time favorite bodies. I looked at and wanted to buy a maroon 65 GTO when I lived in northern California. Maroon black interior four speed car. I was bummed. That car was rusted from the inside out. I missed out on a 69 427 Corvette with no engine and transmission for 700.00 by ten minutes out there also.
Cool times back in the day when muscle cars were everywhere.
No1, we were practically neighbors growing up! Between '72 and '82 we lived just east of Peoria, up Florida Ave., on Ursula Ct. Went to Gateway, and graduated in '81. Here are a couple pics of my '68 Cutlass S when I was doing the body work and paint in our garage (and a little bit at Vo-Tech). Mom didn't care much for the fumes, LOL!
In front of Gateway HS, fall of '80.
The finished product! Winter/Spring '81, probably February, . Note the blacked out grill and funky alignment of the incorrect hood. The bench was replaced with Buick buckets with headrests (from Western Auto Salvage). Oh, and the Christmas lights were still up,
This is a fun thread! The memories come flooding back...
Wow that's crazy. My Dad lived on Ursula Court in Dam East. Surprised we never ran into each other. I was all over Aurora in my 442. I had a 70 SX and 69 Cutlass white blue top and blue bucket seat interior also. I went to Gateway also. I graduated in 85. You may have known some of my brother's sister or cousin's. Do you know the last name Weiman? Did you cruise Broadway or West Colfax?

I bought that 65 post at a junkyard, guy blew trans as he was heading thru Wyoming to west coast..I knew the junkyard owner so I traded a 69 442 I had bought with-a blown engine and put a 350 olds engine in it. . It ran great-so we traded cars even up so he could keep moving on west. This car had a perfect black interior, perfectly straight body but faded paint. I gave th3 junkyard guy 100 bucks for the trans and I had a 65 running goat..when we rebuilt a 400 as I stated earlier I switched it to a 4 speed, then painted it-a 71 cadillac maroon metallic..fun damn car.
Andy our house was in the new Detroit. Aurora. Mississippi and Peoria roughly. Our house was always filled with cars.
I lived in Green Mountain and Arvada back in the 80’s, My sis still lives in Aurora, little brother lives in Elizabeth out east..nieces around Denver metro as well.

I'm drawing a blank on "Weiman." You may have known of my younger brother Sean Byrd - I think he graduated in '85, also. Yep, cruised both West Colfax and South Broadway. Casa Bonita turnaround on Colfax (can't wait for it to re-open under Parker and Stone - should be a blast!), and for Broadway, Littleton Blvd on the south end, and Der Weinerschnitzel on the north.. Burt Chevy, After the Fox (3.2% Beer!! ) - all those old haunts!
Some Olds Oldies of mine in the 60''s early 70's in Wisconsin. The 65 maroon "Post Car" bench seat-just put a 425 in with a 400 automatic out of wrecked Starfire. In that picture was my 69 Grand Prix and the motor cycle seat was my buddies Harley Sportster.
West Colfax I had an epic street race at Wadsworth and West Colfax. Heading east. I was sitting middle lane ahead of traffic. 78 Camaro pulls up on my right. 68 Firebird on my left with small block Chevy emblems on his front fenders. They are jawing back and forth. I yelled at them "**** neither of you fools are beating this car" Light changed it was on. I smoked them. Lakewood cop was five cars deep heading west. I hit Sheridan to Sixth Avenue. I was out. Ha ha. Great memories.
Grandfather's Monte Carlo in front of his house in May 1973 and October 2016. The car currently resides in one of my garages, the house was sold a little over a year ago.

Around 1980-81 I owned two 71 monte carlos, my fav was the burnt orange with a tan vinyl top, tan interior..just a gorgous car, then hada white one with blue top, blue interior..those cars-run forever.. always wanted a big block monte
A Monte Carlo is one of those cars that I have always wanted to own.
Andy do you remember a butternut yellow 68 Chevelle with a black SS hood that ruled Gateway? 454 car.
No I do not, all my street racing was in South Dakota and Wyoming. I moved to Denver around 1984..I ended up buying a 66 gto and a 400 67 firebird 4 speed car, gold-on gold before moving to Florida in 1988-89 ish

Oh ok. I bought my 442 in 85 after my accident in that Corvair. That Chevelle I asked you about was a good friend/roommate of mine's car. He ended up painting it Pontiac gold. That car ruled the streets in Aurora in the early-mid eighties. He still has it. Rebodied into an actual 68 SS car. He lives in Rosemont? MN now.
PS: Funkwagon. Super cool picture of your Pop's!! Is that a 64?

Well I was born in 1980, so I don't have any really old photos...
Top: Previous owner, I'm guessing sometime in the early 90's. Arizona car then spent time in Iowa.
Middle: When I bought it in 2003, I think. Notice no vinyl top. It was repainted at some point by then.
Bottom: 2021 on Hot Rod Power Tour.
