What is it with people

I restored this pedal plane for my wife this past summer as it had been sitting outside on the porch from our old house. It had some rot, a few dents, and it was overall pretty rusty. She wanted it freshened up to decorate the front porch of our new house. You guessed it, some POS walked all the way there from the street, which is a fairly good distance and stole it the other night.

No security camera? In NYC, you cant leave stuff like that in front of the house. It wont last very long.

Should have plugged it in to that outlet nearby and then you'd know who the f***r was that tried to steal it as you would find his/her dead body on the porch.

Your doorbell button is a perfect place to install a Ring doorbell camera. My son gave me one for Christmas last year and it took every bit of 30 minutes to install. I always know when someone is coming into the front yard up to the door. I even put one over the garage that is motion activated and it les me know when someone is in the driveway. Also, it sends video to a smart phone or tablet. Cheaper than ADT.

My dad had a antique rocking chain on his front porch for years, he had it before I was born. It had been there for all of my life, about 10 years ago it came up missing. We found it a few months later when the farmer cleared his crops behind the house. Whoever took it tossed it out into the field. I’m kinda surprised it didn’t do any damage to the combine. It was completely destroyed.

the past 2 winters he has found the wheels on his snowblower broken. If there is snow in the forecast, he always brought the snowblower from his shed in the backyard to the front porch in anticipation of the snow. I teased him that some kids smashed it because he always cleared his neighbors driveways. Maybe the kids felt he was taking money from their pockets by clearing drives for free? For the most part, he lives in a quiet neighborhood. Crap like that happens just often enough to remind you that scumbag people are everywhere.

What a shame. Put a sign out front requesting it be returned, no questions asked, before they find themselves in a world of hurt. You have them on security footage and would prefer not to go to the police and have him incarcerated.
Or put signs out all over town.
Smoke that fkr out.
But hey, what do I know?

That's one of the better reasons I can't wait to get out of here. The top reason we cannot discuss according to the rules.

Eric leaving Jersey and having to deal with that sucks. When I move out of NY I don't want to move to a place where I have to install camera's, I can only guess you felt the same way when you relocated.

Yeah this may be a future project. My wife is trying to find another to replace it, the search isn't going well.

I left Jersey in 78, only thing I miss is the food. Normally in rural America people respect your property, the house sits pretty far off the road so it took rather large ********* to walk all the way up to my porch.

That camera can be set to pick up disturbances from a long way off. It alerts you through your phone or a tablet.

Late in the evening a while back I heard voices down by the mail box (maybe 70 yards away), not a common happening after dark around my place so I went to check it out. Some guy and a friends truck had lost his alternator and had run his battery dry to the point he had no lights no nothing dead. I spent about a hour helping him out building up his battery enough to get him going.

The next morning i found out he stole my garden cart used to transport my garbage can to the road plus he pulled the battery out of my neighbors track layer. I don't remember a thank you.... Tedd

My wife purchased a Ring last Christmas.. I have a very clear view of the street and whoever goes up my drive/ approaches my door. My phone alerts me at ANY motion and records the action. A very inexpensive and valuable tool. Once replaced, I believe that I would put a cable tether to something on the porch and perhaps attach loud jingle bells underneath the plane if possible to make lots of racket when you pick it up. It may not stop it from getting taken but sometimes the smallest deterrence will actually prevent the action from taking place at all. My 1927 Fry gas pump has eight large acorn nuts holding it down to a 600 pound concrete base but in addition to that, there’s also a large cable tether strapped around the pump itself into a chain link eyelet embedded in the concrete. Of course it is possible to steal the gas pump, but man it sure would be a lot of trouble. Plenty of time to call my neighbors to arrange a public convergence and “re-education”.😁

This is precisely why we have this problem. Good people aren't allowed to do what needs to be done to ensure law and order or even talk about it.

Clarification: Society as whole can't talk about it, although I have lobbied for a politics section here before, that was not to what I was referring.
