Wish my boy Chris well. Some of you may know him, he has judged with me in the past when he was 14-17. He is 19 now and moved to Florida to help his grandparents out.
Norm, I know your concern I spent the day putting items up from the yard and ratchet strapping items to the piling of my house Good luck and lets hope it turns far east!!!
Docs, still hundreds perhaps thousands in Carteret County who are not back in their homes after Florence hit us one year ago. Tons of water infiltration from roofs failing requiring total rebuilds of interior walls. Not enough contractors around to repair all the damaged homes. Yes, let’s hope this thing steers further offshore!!!

It took my Mom over 5 years to get her house back in shape after Rita hit SW Louisiana back in 2005. Same thing, roof damage, water infiltration, then total interior rebuild. Not enough contractors or insurance company personnel.
Cat 5 hurricanes are one of the most destructive forces of nature. In 1968 when Camille hit Mississippi I was an Aerographers Mate on duty at NAS Willow Grove PA and had the mid watch. The weather observations are sent out every hour via teletype and the last ob from Biloxie said "Wind data not available, anamometer blown away." An anamometer is wind speed measuring device for the non weather folks.
Norm, Ya think you got problems. I think I'll jes go hit sum *****.
Unfortunately I do have bigger problems than earlier this morning. I played 18 from 8:00am ‘til 12:00 noon. During this time NOAA NHC changed the path of Dorian. We are under a mandatory evacuation and curfew (sunset to sunrise). The eye is expected to be a direct hit over Beaufort, NC - that would be me. I now have all of my ladders (6) and shutters (28) laying around the house & I’m not finding this to be what I was hoping for. Only a Cat 1/2 so we call it a Mullet Storm. It will be fine if it gets here and leaves RAPIDLY! Fingers crossed. Our little town is basically a ghost town right now and everyone from Down East is heading to higher grounds. OK, back to slinging shutters & a hammer. Argh.
We did in fact, Eric - Thank You! One 50' towering Ash tree is uprooted & w/in striking distance of my next door neighbors building - sitting at about a 30* angle. Tons of debris, but house is standing and everyone is safe. Now (again) for the long clean-up.
Thanks James! Cleanup and removal/storage of shutters is the toughest part. I should probably leave them up, drill peek holes in them to see when the next hurricane arrives.
glad all is well. prayers for the rv park people on emerald isle. I was in stella nc, didn't get anything but a small wind and some rain, lawn furnature didn't even fall. nice out the following day.
