Doc / B-29
Doc / B-29
For those of you that may be interested, Doc is a B-29 that has been under restoration for the past 16 years. He was drug out of China Lake with a bulldozer, disassembled and hauled to Wichita, KS for restoration to flying condition. He received his airworthy certificate a few weeks ago and is scheduled for his first flight in the morning (weather permitting) at 8:30 CST. Here is a link to the website. There is a link to click on for live webcast. I will be watching as I am sure many of you will. This will be the second B-29 in airworthy condition. Imagine seeing Doc and Fifi together.

I think it is a safe bet the fate will be better than the polar salvage attempt. That was a heart breaker under extreme conditions. I think Doc is pretty much like a new airplane. There will still be a lot of people holding their breathes.
Since we're on the subject of B-29s..did you guys see this recent article about FiFi?
It talks about the APU. http://www.hotrod.com/features/1505-...er-with-video/

Way cool to see it flying! When I look at todays news and think the world has gone crazy, I need to remember my Dad's generation. They were just kids when they flew planes like this and fought to save civilization. Its amazing what they did during WWII.

I remember years ago I saw the History channel documentary of the heartbreaking try to get the Keebird out of Greenland only to have it burn to the ground because of someone's stupidity that left a gasoline heater burning in the tail section and it turned over and spilled gas all in the rear section.
