Yee Yee (squat truck redux)

After NC outlawed the Squat last year, a lot of those trucks moved across the border into VA. There's a movement to outlaw them here too because of a high-profile fatality crash involving one, where the kid couldn't see what was in front of him, crossed the centerline and ran head-on into a normal height work truck. Squat truck ran up on the other truck's hood, its suspension broke and went thru other driver's windshield.

Anyway, the ones up here now are plastered with "Yee Yee Nation" stickers along with "Yee Yee Girl" and "I'm a Yee Yee Boy!" all over the back windows.

I was in my favorite Italian jernt Saturday night and there was a table of about 10 redneck kids in there. All saying "yee YEE!" whenever one of them said something the rest liked.

I have no idea WTF "Yee Yee" means. A young (21) Mopar friend says it doesn't mean anything, just something "new age country" (his description) kids like to holler, just for the sake of hollering and making noise. Another told me it's supposed to be like a Rebel Yell, but I've heard (and yelled) accurate versions of that and I don't see the similarity.

My Pontiac bud says guys our age aren't meant to understand it. He's probably right.

Anywhere else seeing "Yee Yee" ?

I think they got it from the blacks; they've been doing a bird noise thing to hail each other for years. It can't be a Rebel Yell since you have to be a man to pull that off.

Due to some minor miracle of technologies, there is video of Confederate veterans conducting one.

Urban Dictionary says it's something Southerners say when they're excited. This old dog is so Southern he has papers and no one in my acquaintance ever said "yee yee". "YEE-HAW" and "dammit boy!", yes.

When I still lived in town one of my black neighbors was bemoaning the "stoopid ****" his teenage son and his friends did. I said "Mahlon, stupidity is colorblind and being stoopid comes with the territory with teenagers". He replied that he and I both grew up in the 70s and we didn't do the "stoopid ****" his kid did. Told him to go ask his dad about that!

And luckily... There were no mobile phones to capture it for historical posterity.

I think that's why they do some of it, so they can go viral and have thousands of followers. They crave attention so badly they'll do about anything for it.

I got my first camcorder in 1985 and the thing was so bulky, clumsy and heavy it wasn't really any fun. Now they can do their little performance, capture it digitally and it goes all over the world in seconds. And it's out there forever.

Yee yee.
