Hold on to them. Now I remember reading at least 3 of these to my kids when they were little. I still have the hardbacks. If/when my kids finally start giving me grand children, I hope to be around to read the books to them also.

I'm curios to know why every other commercial on tv seems to be inter-racial all of a sudden. Has anyone else noticed that? Just saying, WTH?

I've noticed, as well. In addition to above, more and more "couples" represented in the ads are not only mixed race, but are also gay or lesbian, and/or some combination of all of the above. I'm good with mixing in a bit of reality. But the reality of it is that the percentages of these versions of people and couples are miniscule in real life. Not the 50% to 75% (or more) represented on television. That's the part that bothers me. In an attempt to "normalize" said people and situations, the MSM is WAY over-representing them.

But look around you, it always has been. The Allies vs. Germany, Japan- race vs. other races, Chevy vs. Ford, Republicans vs. Democrats, 1st shift vs. 2nd shift (yep I've seen it at work), east side of the tracks vs. west side, gangs, on and on.

Supposedly, there is a reboot of the Diehard movie franchise in development. Charlize Theron plays a lesbian version of Bruce Willis character. Cant wait to see that one if it happens!!!

I suppose I’ll have to have my “man card” revoked once I admit this, but I have only seen the original Diehard movie. Never watched any of the sequels. I seriously doubt I’ll watch the reboots movie.

I can’t recall the last time I saw a movie that I really enjoyed.

I am with you on this. I watched one of the Diehard movies but it was not the first one. Not often I even watch a newer move. I do like the Star Wars series but even those are not as good as the old ones. People may think I am nuts but I actually liked the Oz move that come out a few years back. They tied it to the original Wizard of oz really well.

 

Yes I have. It seems it started two or three years ago and it was all of sudden. It is like they passed a law to that effect. As previously mentioned, commercials do not represent the majority of the population. Of course at 74 I have not been the target audience of commercials for many years.

 

We actually had training at work because they did not want us to offend a new hire that "Identified" as a woman (even though he was still a guy).
My feeling on this is pretty straight forward. If you have a guy's plumbing, your a guy. If you get the surgery, than you're now a girl. But you can't just say "I identify as this or that".

I could identify as a potted plant. That doesn't make it so.

 

I do my best to get along with folks and remain respectful. As one widely viewed commentator says, (paraphrased) "I'll be happy, in conversation, to call you whatever pronoun or gender you like, but your DNA remains whichever it was when you were conceived. That fact cannot be changed, and is not in and of itself offensive."

 

To some extent this is wired into us for protection. Read the Old Testament and be amazed at the number of tribes and how they protected their own. Look at the history of New Zealand--after the Pacific tribes colonized it, there was peace for many hundreds of years. It was only when their absolute numbers increased that the tribal influence came out to protect something from those who were perceived to be threatening.

But in the recent past, we have attempted to step beyond tribal culture. To a hippie, everyone was your brother or sister, regardless of color. To the military (the most color-blind organization in the world), you had to trust the person next to you--they may save your life.

After being through both of those experiences, I resent being told I must accept everyone into my life. I only accept those I feel a kinship with--their color or sexual identity is immaterial.

It took a lot of effort to move culture from hippie to today. You have to ask yourself, who profits from creating the current culture of hate and fear?

 

I know where it will end, but it is not yet PC to talk about it because of so many year of revisionist history.

When they start losing money. I know people that loved Pro Football and ever since idiot kapperwhatever started with the knee crap they won't watch it anymore.
Disney is all for the chinese and I wouldn't take my kids there now, I'll save my money .I will not go to the movies any more due to hollywoods preaching at people like us.
If people like us don't talk about these "new normal" and "woke" situations for fear of being cancelled or discriminated against then they should be prepared to live in them.
Our biggest problem is the media, They have way too much power in censorship of things not to there ideas.

Who profits? Those who get to decide the ever changing standards in order to cancel whom or whatever they consider bad, while enjoying the power of being able to do so. That is Hollywood elites that control entertainment content, certain politicians with a flair for lying about their opponents (remember that politics is show business for the ugly), and powerful people in the news media who shove this crap down our throats all the time on TV, radio, in print, and online. It's done to maintain and increase their own power and influence. I almost forgot the big tech oligarchs that own and run social media, they're even more powerful, because they allow what they consider truth to be up front, and censor and cancel what they or all of the above don't approve of. We are living George Orwell's "1984". By the way, there is a food company making a product called "Soylent Green", presumably the name chosen as a joke. I wonder if we will actually be living that movie in future...

 

I agree. The big tech oligarchs and media moguls need to be taken down a few notches. Regarding Disney, either a lot more people make 6 and 7 figure salaries than I thought, or the crowds at Disneyworld all took out second mortgages to go there. It's VERY expensive, I don't know how people do it. People just keep paying the exorbitant prices, so I don't see Disney suffering financially. Their cruises, movies, theme parks, hotels, merchandise, if it's the only Disney there is, people seem to keep flocking to it and pouring all of their money on these things. Just like movies and TV, there was another thread about dumb TV shows. People either don't watch at all, like me, or they give in and swallow it all, paying through the nose for crap. So, all these businesses that supply crap are as wealthy as ever, I don't see anything changing for the better. Call me a pessimist, those of us who think and have standards are in the minority right now.

 

I can't help but think that what we see happening today will be laughed at in 50 years or so, that is if and only if cancel culture doesn't cancel history entirely! We learn from history and need to keep it from being completely destroyed by those "revisionist" thinkers! Banning this and that is so like a two year old on a rant! Grow up and accept that we are all different but still all the same...HUMAN!
