My parents purchesed me a 1977 Delta 88 in 1993 from a family friend who was too old to drive for $1000 (one owner). White with burgrundy top and crushed velvet burgrundy seats. Took it to college in Nashville, TN and it was then labled The Love Boat cause thats where a lot of the magic happened.

Chevy Nova

In 1965, my senior year of high school, I bought a 1964 Nova 2 dr ht with 283, Air Conditioning, 4 speed and only paid $2850 for it. I still remember that my full coverage insurance for the first year was a whopping $186. The car was white with red interior. It had a bench seat that had a factory notch in it to allow the shifter to work without interference. I would buy another one in a nanosecond if I could find one like that.

Like many of the older cars, far too many have been cut up and made into non original junk.

Those old Deltas were nice. My friend had a beautiful late 70's delta. He sideswiped a bus while being serviced by his girlfriend, so was his story.

1960 Ford Taunus built in Germany. I rebuilt the engine before I was 15 years old.
A real dream crusher that one.

Here's my first car. 71 Cutlass Supreme triple blue. It was either Nordic Blue or Viking Blue with a dark blue halo vinyl top. My favorite thing about the car was the blue interior with cloth bench seats. I know buckets are cooler, but I liked the cloth since every other car had vinyl seat.

Ember Red/Black '64 Chevy Impala 409/400 with a Muncie close-ratio, AM radio and very little else -- not even Positraction. With a 2.20 low and 3.36 gears, it was pretty tricky to get off the line, and at 120 mph it felt like the front end was made from piano wire and chewing gum. Compared to a modern day 'Vette or Viper, it probably wasn't all that fast, but it was SUDDEN. Thing felt like it was going to pull the front wheels every time you launched it.

1997 my first vehicle was an 1986 S-10 4x2 extended cab with the 2.8 V6. It was actually pretty fast. Ran great was very reliable but was a rust bucket.

Hmmm...depends how you define "first". The first car I was able to use, in the late 80's, was my mother's 79 Malibu Classic wagon...it was basically mine, but was in her name.

Next "first" car was a 85 Buick Regal in early 90's...was the first car that was bought just for me, but again was in my mother's name.

First car I technically bought myself was a 67 Camaro as a project car (in 91 or 92 if memory serves; was still in college), but sold it soon after, and never drove it other than to get it home after buying it.

First car I bought myself and actually drove regulary was a 70 442 that I got in the mid-90's. My first job after college (graduated in 93) included a company car, so I didn't need to buy a "regular" car, which was nice.

My first car was a 1970 1/2 Z/28. 350/M22/4.10 gear car. My brother had it before me and was in an accident. I had it put back together and painted at the local Pontiac dealership. I should have never sold that car....my 2nd car was a '71 Cutlass S. Shouldn't have sold that one either.

PLEASE HELP FIND IT. Any leads are appreciated

1971 Cutlass S bucket seat console car. Loaded with every option and had a working AC. Def a car that spoiled me. Bittersweet metallic still my fav color with black vinyl top and black gut and full wheel covers. Lol I never changed. I only bought it cuz it had a floor shifter cuz I hated column shift. Wanted stick but if that wasn't avail needed shifter on the floor. It was the cutlass or a 68 GTO from my neighbor. Same price and dad thought I was crazy. He said " watttaa uuuu gotta doo wit a the old cutlet, at least da GTO they copy froma ITALY!!!!!""""Lol hahahahaha. I'll let u guess why the GTO was a no buy. (Hint hint not enough seperate seats in the front and to many turn signal levers aka the column cranker. Lol). Did my first brake stand on that car at 15 driving with with no license. and I was addicted to Oldsmobile like a druggie to heroin. Lol. Jk. I've since owned, fixed or sadly parted/scrapped over 30 oldsmobiles and still counting. And FYI if anyone knows my car please give me the lead. I'll list details in next post below

Seemed like one of us a olds loyal and def had his stuff together. I Hope she stayed togehter and didn't become a clone!!! No idea last six of vin but I member she was a Framingham car and was all numbers matching!!! She was garaged her whole life one owner and was a true survivor. If anyone knows this car or knows someone who got a similar in the years 2000 in New Jersey please let me know
She also had a massive eye sore trailer hitch welded to the frame lol. Ahhhh the good ole days

My first car was a 1967 Olds Cutlass Supreme Convertible I bought for $500 in 1986 when I was 14. The interior was still beautiful and it ran flawlessly and got 17mpg on the highway (330 with a 4 barrel), but the frame and floors were all rust. A local welder patched that up so it was solid, but not pretty. It was dark blue when I got it and the rear end sat up high from some extra heavy duty springs put in to make it look "cool". My Dad and I used spring compression adapters to lower the rear and I had the car painted the original light metallic blue. The body shop guy screwed up the rust repair around the wheel wells so the chrome trim didn't fit right, but I didn't have a lot of money, and couldn't demand quality. Later that year, my Dad helped me buy the 69 Olds 442 convertible that I had been negotiating to buy since before I bought the 67. See picture in the late 80s with my parents 82 Olds Custom Cruiser in the background (loved that car, it replaced the 81 Olds Omega that replaced the 1972 Vista Cruiser). I finally sold the 67 in the early 90s while in college to make space at my parents house and repay them for money borrowed to work on the cars. I think the guy who bought it lived in VT, he had a car just like it when he was younger and was happy to find mine for sale. I still have the 69 442 today, and we have been through much together... girls, adventures, rear-ending/rebuilding, a wedding, and continued travels... very grateful for the help on this site. I still think about all the Olds that are no longer part of my life, and only remain in my memories, and occasional dreams at night... would be fun to come across the 67 someday, I suspect all the others never made it except the one my parents brought me home from the hospital in, after my birth, a gold 69 Olds Cutlass S, that was hot-rodded in the 80s after my parents sold it, and I hold out hope that survived.

1940 Ford 2 door

My first, at 16 (1954) was a 1940 Ford 2 door sedan, from a friend. It had a 59AB Mercury flat head with dual carbs, milled heads, 3 speed, and a 4:11 rear end. Bad FAST to about 60, then just gave it up. Stoplight drags, I won 50, lost 2 (had it on a card on the sun visor). Lost to a '55 Cheby w/power pak, and to a '55 Ford with the police package, driven by a GIRL! I was waaaayyyyy ahead of her, hit 2nd and got rubber, hit 3rd and wondered where she was...............THEN...........she pulled up beside me and shifted into 2nd, and just ran off from me. Those were truly the days. I bought the '40 for $150, sold it a year later for $165, because I had put wire hub caps on it.....................oh, sure wish I had that one, now. Then I got my 1st Olds............'50 2 door sedan...............absolutely wish I had that one, now.

My first car was a 1968 Vista, that was handed down from my parents when I got my license in 1974. Ironically, except for when I bought my current truck brand new, that was the youngest vehicle I've ever owned (six years old when I got it). My DD today is 13 years old, and that's the newest vehicle in the household. My wife's DD is a 1985 D88. The vehicle with the lowest mileage currently running and registered is my 62 wagon, with 92K on it. Given what new cars look like, I don't see this trend changing.

Oh, and I soon replaced the 350 2bbl in that Vista with a 425. I surprised a lot of cars at stoplights with that thing. The best one was a 69 Mach I - the driver was incredulous.

1955 Bel Air, 265 V8 with a floor conversion 3 speed. My mom, who was the controller for the local Chevy dealer bought it for $15 and had it delivered for my 15th birthday in 1964. Rules were, get it running, fix the rust and learn what makes a car tick. Biggest rule? No driving on the street!
I got it running, fixed the rust and learned what makes a car tick. I also broke the last rule... several times! Sold it for $200 when I got my license and bought a 1963 Impala SS convertible. That's led to over 300 cars to date.

Great hobby!

64 barracuda, pushed it up the street from a neighbors house where it was abandoned by him and not running. It had a 273ci and 4 speed if I remember correctly. Put a 318 in it and painted it to hide the BABY BLUE color. Was not gonna drive that to school. Later traded it for a 72 Grand Prix . The new Cuda owner put a 340 and 3:56 posi rear end in it. It would lift the front wheels a foot in the air on take off ( till he was showing off at a gas station lot and ran over a pump due to a problem inside the rear differential). I bought the partially burned remains back and parted it out.

Not with any 340 Mopar ever built and a 3.56(?) rear, it wouldn't. Maybe with a Hemi and a 4.88 ...

He was the floor it till it was ready to blow up and then dump the clutch type of guy. In school he had a Ford PINTO (that's right I said PINTO) stick shift. He would floor it till it hit full RPM and dump the clutch, Jaws dropped when he smoked the tires half way up the block. Never owned a car vary long but he was entertaining as hell. I may have remembered the gear ratio wrong and he did have ladder bars but This story is true.

If you give me your word of honor that you saw it happen, I'll have no choice but to believe you. But the laws of physics will be against both of us.

Well it is true and I for one could not believe a 4 cylinder Ford Pinto could smoke the tires like that. As far as the 64 Barracuda I am with you. I cant believe it either but it happened and he knocked over a gas pump catching the station pump on fire. As I said I may have the gear ratio wrong, he had wide tires I and have no idea what extras he had In the motor but physics or not He did it.

My first car I bought for $700 in 1976, 65 442 four speed 4:11 posi convertible, graduated same year and got married in 77. Still have the car and my wife. Only drove it couple times the first winter and always had a winter beater after that. Had a few times on packed snow/ice that I got out with the car in third gear to push it to get it moving. Received two speeding, careless and reckless driving tickets before dad said another ticket and he was taking the keys.

An old girlfriend had a 603cc 2CV Citroen. the flat twin engine had a very heavy flywheel. If she revved it to valve bounce and dumped the clutch it would take off like a Pro Stock car for twenty yards or so due to the inertia effect of the flywheel. After that the show was over, but she startled a few boy racers with this trick.

Rloger.

My first car was a motorcycle., a 1979 Honda CX500 Custom, looked just like this one:

Later I bought a 1974 Chrysler New Yorker 4 door for $50, but for the first few months I had my license, I only had the Honda.

I'n 1982 first car was a 76 Olds cutlass supreme. Got me through my 5 year apprenticeship, finally rotted out everywhere but was a blast to drive.
Just had to buy another many years latter.

First car I bought, paid for, and maintained was my 66 442, that ended up with a tweaked 425 out of a 67 Toronado. 3.91 gears were murder on my high school and college-age wallet, since I had it when the first gas "shortage" hit. But it was sure fun to drive, jacked-up *** end and all...

First car I drove regularly was Mama's hand-me-down 66 Ninety Eight LS. My buds said LS meant "lotsa seats". That car had too many gadgets to be safe around a bunch of smartass high school boys. If they saw a button (and it had plenty) they'd mash it, and here I go down the road with the decklid flying up in the air or worse.

It had Tilt-Tele. One of my favorite tricks was to unscrew the center and start pulling the wheel toward me like I was gonna take it off. Thought one kid was gonna bail out of the back seat one night...

If the Fisher Price pedal car doesn't count....

In 1979, I got my dad's '73 Pontiac Grand Ville 4dr hardtop 455 HO. Room for a crew in the trunk at the drive-in. Forest green with green vinyl roof and green cloth seats. Fully skirted, CB radio option.

(Dad by the way opted for a '79 Olds Regency)

1st

1st car 1975 Ford Torino.

1st Truck 1987 F150.

Never owned another Ford after those two.

1st Olds 1970 Cutlass Supreme 455 2bbl L-33 car (rare non SX).

Seventy-eight more Oldsmobiles followed that one. More seem inevitable.

I'd looked around for something fun that I could get for about $800 back in 1976. I'd checked out an Opel 1900 that needed too much work. Rejected a Sunbeam Alpine with no heater. There was some Datsun that I almost bought - can't recall the model. Then, there it was. Brought over from Germany, 6 volt, gauges spoke German. Vassertemp, Fernlicht. Dumbkoff. How do you say "Prone to Vapor Lock" in German?

I loved the car it taught me a lot. How to use a timing light. How to balance carbs, how to check valve clearance. How not to trust a car dealer who knew the rear end was shot, and I'd be replacing it soon.

My car never looked quite as pretty as this example, but my new wife was prettier - even when she helped push-start it.
