My Ode to the selfless defendersTwas the night before D-Day and all through the houses not a creature was safe, not even them mouses.
My buddies and I made all our arrangements with our family, friends and, ladies we now lay with.
The training was sure, objective is clear the only thing missing is how many will endure
The plan and the machine are firmly in place, the only sure is now gods grace.
Us soldiers all nestled snug in our cots, wishing my mind and stomach were not tangled in knots
With Sarge in his glory and me with my faith, with all of my buddies, and our mission in place.
When all of a sudden I rose from the clatter this is real I'm awake we need to scatter Then what did my wondering eyes did I see were more and more men in the same land as me
With the Sarge in charge so willing to lead I knew in a moment we're going to win
More rapid than Eagles our courses did charge, I heard bugles calling and leading the call "On Miller, now Johnson and Fillner and Smith. On Christian, Ole and Garth. To the top of the hill and the top of those walls now charge away, charge away all.
As dry dust to ashes the saying will remain we all go together for hopes not in vein.
If we meet obstacles to high to obtain, look to the sky, we will stand with each other til the day we both die .I tore open my carbine my now only true friend, the offense has started we cant make amends., smoke, and percussion goes on for days it seems to no end.
Tight here for now, .. but I better not blink
The moon on the breast of this fresh this fallen craze is only a wonder of the landscape Iv've been forced to embrace.
The men that have fallen, the souls that have lived may only be words when the memories forgive.

Let us take think of their moment of time, when the memories may be gone and not forsaken , to honor the ultimate sacrifice for the family and the country so valiant in fight , all that may live on.
Peace
The end of that battle now be honored with stones of those that have fallen and those that will own the brothers in arms they loved and have known, they have made their mark upon the souls of their families hearts that still remember.
A lot of men from this area fought at Normandy and everyone either had family fighting there or knew someone who did. Most of these local soldiers were in the 29th Infantry Division which was frontline at Omaha Beach. Mama's oldest brother was in the 29th.
My uncles on Mama's side all had daughters and I often heard them say they were glad of that so their kids wouldn't have to go thru the hell of war. None of the uncles on either side would ever talk about their WW2 experiences.
In April 1993 Virginia designated the length of US29 in Virginia as the 29th Infantry Division Memorial Highway in recognition of the unit, since most of its men came from Central Virginia.
Remember all your veterans today, especially WW2. There aren't many WW2 vets left.
The world would be such a better place without megalomaniacs and ideologues. They and religion have caused most wars throughout history.
