Drive is directly below where the shifter currently is in that picture. If you move the shifter to the left of the current position you put the transmission into manual "Sport" mode hence the S on the shifter assembly. The standard PRND shifter gate is still maintained with an addition gate added to the left.

A red STOP button placed somewhere accessible for both driver & passenger (in case the driver was having some kind of seizure) would no doubt save lives....except that it could be an admission by the manufacturer that "Hey, this car might take off on it's own".
Next is the issue of what's aesthetically pleasing. A big old red button up there on the walnut & leather dash would ruin the look....
It does seem odd though, that considering the advances that have been made in vehicle safety (air-bags, crumple zones etc), that something as simple as a kill switch isn't standard equipment. I've attended a couple of rollover accidents where the engine was still running and the car still in gear with the occupants spread all over the place and it took too long to get to the keys to turn the cars off before sorting out the mess.
Citcapps stop button would have made the scenes a lot safer for both the occupants and those trying to assist.

This keeps up, and the company's ability to continue in business could be threatened. Seriously.
My parents own an '08 Highlander and a '10 Corolla. They're not happy campers right now. It seems that every third car you see is a Toyota of one kind or another. Lots of unhappy campers out there.

I was just reading about this online, when my in box alerted me to this email update. I had just sent an email to a friend due to the fact that he has a '09 Corolla. And before anyone says "buy American", take a look at how many TSB's are out there at Edmonds.com on the Chevy Colbalt, which his wife drives.

People buying some of these Toyotas DID buy American! The Camry is assembled in Tennessee with something like 60% U.S. part content. I don't know what these numbers are for other Toyotas, but I know my father's '10 Corolla was assembled in the U.S. based on the VIN. (There was an article on this earlier. Apparently, if your Corolla was made in Japan, it doesn't have the same gas pedal assembly and is not part of the recall. Alas, his was assembled in the U.S. Not often one puts an "alas" at the beginning of a sentence like that!)

This is the response from my buddy who owns a Corolla, after I emailed him the steering problem that has now arisen. Quote: " That's OK! Only a guy that's been married for darn near 30 years and lives with three menstruating woman could ever be qualified to drive a car, not only that accelerates on its own, but also can't be controlled with the frick'n steering wheel besides!!!"
Um, maybe this is my way out!!!

We all wish, huh! I sometimes think my ladyfriend needs one in her mouth...
Seems like this is a good opportunity for other dealers to capture frustrated toyo owners.
On the way home on the train, i pass a whole row of car dealers along the highway.
Some caught my attention this time...
A ford dealer had a huge banner across the storefront "We pay top dollar for your toyotas!"
The chevy dealer's used car lot had a huge collection of toyos.
Another dealer (couldn't catch who) had a sign "Only our deals will stick!"
I want to see one poke fun at the honda airbag recall, now...

LOL thats awesome.
There are a lot of things auto manufacturers should put in their vehicles & I have personally pleaded my case on many subjects to the engineers I work with and the fact is car companies will not do anything unless forced to by government regulations.

Pretty interesting to listen to him. There was another article in our local paper over the weekend that talked about how many of these Toyotas are being traded in right now and the business is mostly going to Chevy, Ford, Hyundai, and Honda. The Malibu was the biggest winner as some of the local Chevy dealerships are running out of stock. Certainly not a bad problem to have right now.

Question....
We get the Nascar racing on one TV station here and I notice there are Toyota Camrys on the track (I think Marcus Ambrose drives one??). Do stock Camrys come with V8 engines in the States? They don't over here....only V6 & 4 cylinder cars.

The Latest from the Auto Extremist, 2/17/10
Toyota dealers. Auto manufacturers competing in the U.S. market are girding for the mother of all Toyota-thons this spring as Toyota prepares to launch a "Scorched Earth" marketing and advertising offensive that will make all previous efforts pale in comparison. Toyota could spend as much as $2 billion dollars - a billion in advertising and a billion in incentives - to make things right for itself in this market. Even the dealers aren't sure just how big the campaign will be, but suffice to say, Toyota is going to come back with a vengeance and come out swinging with everything they've got, and then some. Toyota dealers are champing at the bit for the offensive to start because they firmly believe that with headquarters pulling out all the stops and with money being no object, they will be able to decisively crush their competition in the marketplace. We'll see.
