Is thsi site slow

Is it me or is this site really slow. It seems to have really started to bog down lately. It takes a lot of time to navigate. I don't have that problem with other sites. Is anybody else experiencing this?

I notice each page (even without large pics) seems to hang a few extra seconds and it does get annoying. This has been going on a long while.

Works fine over here, I have no issues with it being slow. Sometimes the main page won't load but very rarely.

Speed on here is lightning fast from home and even faster from work. Occasionally I get it hanging a little when I click a link inside the site (forum links, not outside redirected links) and if it hangs more than about 10 seconds, usually another click fires it right off. I've noticed that issue on other sites as well, so it's not a problem for CO.com.

From what I have seen, there is no lag/slowdown whatsoever on the site. If you suspect it may be something with your computer making it slow down, I can suggest a few spyware scanners we use all the time at work with great success.

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html <--SpyBot Search & Destroy

http://www.combofix.org/download.php <-- ComboFix (read page carefully for exact download instructions. Don't just click the big blue "download now" button, as that's an advertisement)

http://www.malwarebytes.org/ <-- MalwareBytes (use the free version, NOT the paid version)

http://www.lavasoft.com/ <-- AdAware

There's other scanners out there that are somewhat effective and free, but these are the most useful. We do virus removal for a major univeristy, and have had to deal with EVERY virus out there at one time or another. These are the best tools to use if you suspect something has gotten hooks in your machine. Windows machine of course. I'd parrot the always handy "Mac's don't get viruses" but that's a lie as well. we've seen a few here now. Starting to become more prevalant now that they have a little more market share.

Mine might be slow due to too much security stuff, since I can only access the site on my work computer...

I've noticed it slower also in the last month or so compared to what it had been.

Thanks GTI. I will try some of those ideas this weekend. It seems a little better tonight but still slower than it should be.

Another thing that can slow things up are the browser. I use firefox and have it tweaked to perform faster. It's quicker untouched than IE but after some tweaking it's night and day difference. A simple google will show some tips to speed it up. I like the add on ad block plus with firefox. It blocks all those ads that tend to slow down the page loading. I dont notice any on this site but others have many.

If you like firefox, I HIGHLY suggest trying the Google Chrome browser. Most of the IT folks (including me) that I work and associate with that were using firefox have switched to Chrome. It blows firefox out of the water with speed and stability.

http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en...tml?brand=CHKZ

It works with windows & mac and is now the preferred browser of choice among just about everyone I know these days.

Also, if anyone here needs pointers on how to install/use any of the scanners I posted above, drop a note in this thread and I'll do what I can to help troubleshoot.

If you are going to run them, start by using combofix first. Let it fix anything it finds wrong, then malwarebytes, then either of the other two scanners.

ComboFix needs to run on its own, but the others can be installed, updated, then run simultaneously. It will most likely take several hours for them to run full scans. Start them scanning before you head off to bed and let them run overnight. If possible, turn off any sleep/hibernation settings before letting them scan, as this can interrupt the process and may require starting it all over.

Thanks for the heads up. I'd heard from my IT friends that chrome was better than firefox but I have not made the change yet.

I'm using Chrome and this site (and this site only) usually is very slow, often pages don't load, sometimes I even have to close the browser and reopen it to get it to work. This is the only site I ever have that problem with.

I don't have any problems on my home computer except for a few weeks ago. Many people posted about that same time having problems too.

My buddies computer wont let me open this site.....at all. Even though it used to just a couple of months ago.

Rather than start a new thread...

This site has been a real dog this morning. Takes forever to load pages or open threads...always "waiting for C.O. to respond". Not my browser either - I'm using Google Chrome. It's just this site.

I know some of you were having trouble yesterday when I wasn't. Is this a rotating type of delay caused by the C.O. server??? Hoping someone like Omicron will chime in here....

This is the only site I visit that runs slow with my machine.

I think it's because of all the advertising which will never disappear.Don't forget this site is owned by an internet advertising company not someone who loves Oldsmobile.
Check out Internet Brands website,

Bingo!

The ads take longer to load than rest of the page content, that's what slows it down. This is the slowest site I frequent - similar to eBay Motors, which is also ad-heavy.

I've found that double-clicking the forum or thread title from the menu speeds things up some.

It has been a bit sluggish off and on on my work and home machines, and both running FF with adblock. Therefore the ads aren't the only bottleneck. Right now it runs fine.
Wonder if it's because ---- too many users! We have grown a lot...

I don't think that's it either. The other sites that 'brands' has are lightning fast. Maybe time for a server upgrade, but remember it's the ads that pay for this site.

Could be any number of reasons I guess, but the number of users on this site, rather the number of Active users isn't that large really. What would happen if all the people who haven't been active for years had their profile removed? What about all the people who have joined and never posted a single comment?? It's staggering to look at that volume.

Steven, if you aren't using Google Chrome or Firefox for your browser, may I suggest you try it? I found it speeded up my system a LOT. It will ask you if you want this to be your default browser. Say yes. It will replace your old browser. If you were running Internet explorer, you can also import the list of your favorites. http://support.google.com/chrome/bin...n&answer=95346

Give it a shot and see if it works for you. If it doesn't, you can always go back to your control panel and reset your brower to what it was before. Chrome is different and does take a little getting used to.

If changing browsers, I would suggest firefox over google. The google one will not block google ad stuff and this site (and most others) are stuffed with em... Firefox adblock makes em disappear!

Anyone else seeing this too???

This morning the site started off ok. but lately it's turned into a real dog for being slow. Is internet brands upset with us or something? I don't have any trouble with their other sponsored sites.

.....waiting for classic oldsmobile......seems to be taking longer all the time.
