Starting to know what people are saying!

I have heard several people talk about how they don't come here any more because of drama. I never understood this because I never had that. I know we have seen some great members move on and not post any more. Well over the past 4 weeks I have had more people mad at me over silly things and I just don't get it. A couple I thought I was helping out and then soon after I get a PM telling me to get lost and mind my own business. I am starting to understand what others have been telling me about CO. I love this site and 99% of the people, I just don't understand why people all of the sudden are getting upset about silly things.

I hate seeing this because I owe CO an amazing amount of credit for far more than any of you know or would understand.

And no I will not talk about the situations or who but it is mostly happening in the for sale sections. I don't post for sale much any more and starting to think it is for the better. I was going to start listing stuff again but I don't know now.

Rant over.

Please don't go anywhere. I've read a ton of your posts and need to keep on learning. Plus you helped me out with some of those PM you sent. I'm mad at you for not sending me a rebuilt transmission for free...but aside from that you're 100% good in my book.

Perhaps because people often have unrealistic ideas of how much something they want to sell is worth, or the reverse, how much something they want to buy might cost, they get upset if someone posts a well intended reality check.

For the most part, showing off your pride and joy, or trying to help with technical advice, or matters of historical fact, all tend not to wind people up in the manner that buying and selling does.
Because I'm not involved in buying and selling cars on the forum I haven't come across anything I'd call drama here. Differences of opinion, sure, but not PM's telling me to mind my own business.

Roger.

Yeah, the ongoing passive aggressive attacks in a few threads lately really suck. People never fail to disappoint.

Glad you had the courage to bring it up. Can't understand it - guess I'm lucky I don't sell many things here!

I agree what My442 said.
Everybody has different opinions on everything whether you like Oldsmobiles or Chevys. Too me, it doesnt matter what you like it or not. I envy you guys with the W30, W31, etc. If I answer your question wrong, dont shout on me because im wrong. Just say you disagree. That's all. It happen to me before in here. This how we learn. I learn a lot in here and I thank you all.

Selling is always a tough business... You have to remember -"You can please some of the people all the time, all the people some of the time, BUT NOT all the people all the time"... If they mess with you in PM's - Just block them...

As for drama threads, I tend to stay away...

Well, I for one will thank you for your presence here.

I have not had to sell stuff in quite a while, outside of that L69 intake, so, less drama for me there. Let it go, let it go.

Compared to other sites I've seen, everybody here seems to get along pretty well. Maybe some bench-racing arguments sometimes, but I think that's mostly in fun. Mind you, I haven't done much buying or selling here -- is it that where the bad stuff is happening?

Eric,
I drove to the Nationals last year mainly to see your car and Joe's. Your build thread inspired the hell out of me and I wanted to meet you in person and I did.(albeit 5 minutes) Don't let some cry babies ruin the chance of a future newbie to be inspired by your build threads.

Now get back in the garage and start tearing stuff apart and taking pictures!

Rick

PS...Joe's build thread on his W-30 was excellent too. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet him.

Its difficult to know who will be good/easy to deal with and who will not. Some people are just going to be the north end of a south bound horse, and just cannot be pleased. Just know that you tried your best and write them off as people not to deal with again. You are one of the really nice guys here IMO. I know i dont contribute alot here, but in the approx 3 years since i joined, I have learned alot about Olds and other related subjects. Some i already knew and some i didnt. I have bought a few things from members here and sold a couple of things, all easy deals with good nice people. It seems that some just think its their job or their place to try and make life miserable for others. I have no problem ignoring those people if their jacking with me, and i sleep just fine.
So i say forget those certain people and keep on being the very respected good guy that most people here know you are. Good luck.
Steve

Yeah, some people suck. There's one guy on here who I find to be a dick, however, I'm on HIS ignore post list, and he's not on mine, simply because I don't do that ****. I am who I am on the internet that I am in real life; could you imagine sitting at a table, all of us, and one guy won't talk to you, or will talk over you like you're not even there? I'd say that sort of behavior belongs to petty women, but I'd be insulting petty women.

I'd hang out with most anyone here. Did I see some sky high "does that come with a 442 attached to it?" prices in the for sale thread at some unspecified time? Sure, but I'm not complaining; I just don't buy. Are there some I get into arguments with, sure, but I try to not bother them.

This place is in the top 2 or 3% of decent places on the internet. I've been to some places where, you get into an argument, they find photos of you on facebook or something, photoshop them onto an animated gif of two gay guys doing it, launch attacks on your internet connection to keep you offline, then they try to go after your bank accounts. I was not a regular in those places, needless to say.

You should see some of the other sites Im on. The Chevelle/Camaro world is cut throat down right rude. The vette guys can be drama queens at times. Bottom line is this site overall is at the top of the OK sites list. Remember, you basically have thousands of humans in one area at more or less the same time. We still haven't learned to play in the sand box with each other. Just watch the news. "Us" at the upper end of the evolutionary scale have learned. We are all still not that far out of the cave and are still dragging our knuckles. There will always be the one out of ten A holes in every crowd. I just grow another layer of hide and ignore the less evolved. There are larger problems out there; arguing about the finish on a bolt is not one of them. Were here to pass on accurate knowledge and when one of us is incorrect (Im guilty too) we self police...hopefully with some class.

I am glad that I have never had a real problem with anyone on this site. I try to use as much diplomacy as possible. Now, there was one time a newbie got my dander up and fired back pretty hard! No insults or put downs but some of my qualifications.

The poster did apologize and I told him let bygones be bygones and offered any help that he may need in the future.

I am also on the Alero, Impala and Maui forums and these are very civil also!

Eric, don't let them get to you! We welcome your posts and your help here and again look forward to seeing you at the C.O. forum dinner at Kingsport.

Pat

I have a great dis/advantage of having little or no memory. While this sucks when I see someone whose name I should know.... but cannot recall, and it gets awkward and I try to think of the name.... I also have forgotten almost all of the folks that might have ruffled my feathers or vice versa, so can't hold a grudge with no memory of the event! Press on! Do what good can be done today.

I agree Octania, and have the same memory as well. And I find arguments futile and unpleasent, besides, I always know I am right, so why argue about it!

I have participated in many car-related forums over the years and every single one has had the kind of problems described by the OP. All it takes is a few sociopathic trolls with oversize egos and there are no shortage of those on the internet. I've seen the results of this bad behavior range from some hurt feelings to total destruction of the forum. In my experience this is one of the better forums overall with a large base, healthy number of new members, and a general willingness of most members to share information without the "drama". Lets all try to keep it that way.

Hello:
All of you guys, and that is way too many to mention, have been invaluable to the restoration I am doing on my 66 Cutlass I've had since 1974, some have provided amazing parts, some have provided excellent technical knowledge. I am sure I will have to call on you guys again before I'm finished. "Jensen" don't let them get you down, stay positive and keep selling great items, I've bought from you a couple times and was very happy with what I got, you just can't please everyone.
Thanks, Ron

I feel for the guys that are selling used parts, I haven't purchased any used parts on the forum as of yet. I've only purchased a rear posi/gears and install kit from Monzaz. It was a very good transaction with no issues.
You guys take the time to package these used parts and try to make members happy with purchases.
You can't please everyone as others mentioned, You also have many here that speak highly of you so continue to do what you do and block the ones that give you grief.
Wish you all the best in part sales going forward.

If it's such a freakin' burden don't trouble yourself. Just move on.

Also, my pet peeve - the unsolicited advice about what is wrong or not correct. If somebody's not asking, don't offer it. JMO.

And said used parts are OEM spec Oldsmobile parts made in the USA for USA made cars. Doesn't get much better than that...older is better!
