Smoke! and other thoughts

I feel so sorry for the people who are at this time loosing everything they have worked for in these seemingly never ending forest fires, The wind has turned and is now coming from the south bringing with it the rancid smoke from a half dozen forest fires. This morning we can't see more than a 100 yards in any direction and the air is flavored with the acid taste of burning pine.

There is nothing threatening at my place that I know of (nearest big fire is about 30 miles away)but the reminder of what can happen in a heart beat lingers in that taste. I fear little in this mountain area but fires are the exception with close calls coming almost every year and with resources and endurance of the firefighters getting shorter each day it has me worried.

Though we have nothing packed ( no need at this time) we have a detailed plan on what goes and what stays, if it's insured let it burn, if it's non replaceable load it up the most expensive or heirloom first. Hope it never happens in my life time...... Tedd

Good luck, Tedd.
I hope it's something you'll never have to deal with.
I can't imagine the stress of having such a thing hanging over my head.

How big is your trunk. Really big, but not big enough. It just reminds me things can change in an instant. Be prepared.

Most valuable thing to throw in the car is your *** and haul out of there.

Good luck

We have had our share up in Oregon also. Fortunately we have early snow at altitude and a pretty good rain at lower elevations. Wish you good fortune.

I'm in no danger as we speak but so far there have been three fires very close( Two I could see them from my back deck). We had a little rain a few days ago (1/4 inch) and hopefully that will hold down the fire danger somewhat till a good rain comes in.Praying for a huge El nino this winter.

Middle Town in Lake County is mostly gone with well over a 1000 homes gone up in smoke and the fire is still only 75% contained. many homes and buildings are still at risk and that is only one of the many fires still burning. This will be a year that we will remember for a long time..... Tedd

We do get lots of forest fires here in Oregon. It is the one thing I would change here. Otherwise I am great here.

I recommend keep pictures backed up on a disc or usb drive or whatever you can put into a box and load quick. The keep sakes that you not matter what can not replace. The "things" are just that things. But pictures and those special small memory things are the hardest.

Then first and most important is you and your loved ones.

Hope you all stay safe.
