selling old mobile phones
Eric, look into donating it to a women's shelter. They take old phones and set them to dial 911 only and to be used by battered women. Great use for old phones.

What you may not realize is that these old and outdated phones could be serving a higher purpose—by recycling them, you could help survivors of domestic violence. By donating them to The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, these relics—whether or not they’re in working condition—are recycled, refurbished and resold by Cellular Recycler, a company that has, to date, kept an estimated 3 million cell phones out of landfills. A portion of the resale proceeds then goes back to NCADV to help fund programs that empower survivors of domestic violence and help them live free from abuse.
You can also try a site like: https://www.gazelle.com/
Selling your old phone is an outstanding way to turn something you don’t use anymore into a quick bit of cash. Depending on the model and condition of your phone, and the current demand on the market, you might be amazed how much your old phone is worth. Make sure to clear any personal data off your phone, remove your SIM card, and any additional storage cards you might have installed before selling your phone online. Even, selling your used phone is an easy way to add some funds to your financial situation. Keep the following in mind to assure you get maximum value for your old phone:
- Make sure to avoid selling your phone right when a new model drops.
- Keep your phone in excellent condition and be frank about the flaws.
- Carrier and retail buyback programs are easy but offer less cash than other methods.
- Websites that buy used phones or allow you to sell your old phone are usually a good balance of risk and rewards.
- Using an online classified is likely to get you the most for your used phone, but it comes with increased risks.
- Keep in mind unlocked phones are sold well than locked ones.
- Sweeten the deal by including accessories such as charger, warranty card, flip case, etc.
- Always factory reset your cell phone before selling it.
- Make sure to sell your phone on a trustworthy website such as Gazelle, Recell Cellular (https://www.recellcellular.com/), or Swappa.
That is a great idea.
I have an I6s that I kept when I found out a number of apps continue to work even without carrier service. Especially with wifi. I have a speedometer app (GPS, of course) that I use for both cars and was pleasantly surprised to find that it still works...with the added benefit of playing my tunes thru the same app.

Ha, HA!
Yeah...pretty damned sad, isn't it? If it wasn't the write off I would probably still be using a flip.
Had a hard mount phone in my company car in early 1986. Been stuck with them ever since. Sometimes I long for the days that you could drive out of service areas.

My iPhone is always locked. I have it set to automatically lock after one minute of no use. "During the entire time my iPhone is locked, I have it set so "Calls and notifications will be silenced while your iPhone is locked." I get no beeps, no buzzes, no clangs, no chirps, no calls, nada, zilch, nothing. I'm retired - I enjoy watching the lawn grow.
