When I were young I was into hot rods and diesel trucks. I loved building plastic model kits of all my favorites.
In 1983 diesel truck racer Tyrone Malone brought his group to the local Bandag tire facility located on a section of old Hwy.65. This was a large group of vehicles including two race trucks and their haulers and smoky bear corvette,others...and some ladies. The race trucks were known as Super Boss and Bandag Bandit. The high light of the show was him doing burn outs and some high speed runs on the cordoned off piece of road. Really cool stuff for a 16 yr. old.
I'm pretty sure those trucks ran detroit 12 cylinders at about 150mph in the quarter...fast for 1983. http://www.tyronemalone.net/
That is cool. I got a ride on a twin engine hot rod tractor when i was 16. The guy had made a special seat he could add for riders. Both motors were blown bb chevy's.He opened it up for about two blocks. There is a guy in Eldorado Kansas who owned a Hot Rod racing diesel truck. This guy was on the pickers and sold a Harley to Mike and a yello chopper to Frank. This guy is know as the Bail bondsman around here. You have a very cool picture. Wished i had took a picture of bail bondsmans truck.
I remember the Bandag Bandit and Hideaway trucks from AMT model kits as a kid in the mid-late '70s and early '80s.
Here's video with Malone driving his red Kenworth Boss Truck of America in a Movin' On episode from 1974. That truck was repainted regularly in the '70s and still exists in rough shape. It was in a shop fire in Texas and is awaiting restoration.
