plumbing/ hvac repair rate ?

Hey guys. I own a hvac plumbing company. The area i live in is competitive, and i charge alittle less that some, more than others. The company runs on a 10% profit.
My head is crazy this week, ive never had so many complaints on over charging, blah blah, cancelling install contracts.
I know it has to do with the stock market, but people just say "your crazy expensive".
If i shave 5 bucks an hour off, ill lose money. People dont realy understand on how business works.
I know every area of the country is different.
But i have to ask..How much is HVAC/ Plumbing repair going for around you?
Here. $50-$170. Obviously $50 your getting a taillight warranty.
Im at $120, $150 for 2- men. 30 man company...only way to charge less is to let 2o guys go...

I have had a decent amount of plumbing work done the past year. I seem to recall the rate was 80/hour for the senior tech, and 40/hour for the junior guy. I can confirm it if it helps.

In my area...If I recall a few converstions with family over the past year, Its about 85-125 bucks for spring/fall check on *** systems. As you know that is basic stuff, filter change, check burner for proper flame check freon levels and clean a condenser. Not much more than that.

We don't have many fuel oil fired systems around here, Its nat. gas or propane or electric. I understand a re-light isn't cheap on that oil stuff nor is running out of oil/soot on the system.

I'd say, stay honest and upfront and you'll come out of OK. Maybe you can control some costs on your end, but I bet you're already doing that. You can't install a system for free, you have costs too. You have to pass that along. Customers don't like it, but customer service and communication is important in that process.

I really don't know the hourly rate for repairs, but I just had two Trane units installed for a little over $5000 this past spring. Did I get a good deal? Probably not. The parts were about half the cost according to eBay and labor made up the rest. Around 3 hours/unit. Plus they took away the old units, so they made some money there too.

But I was so happy to have A/C at a much lower electric bill. So I'll take it.
