Olds club of America national meet

Hello to all. A quick question to any Ontario Canada members planning on going to the OCA nationals. Possibly going down in a convoy. That's a big 10-4 good buddy!

I caravaned to Denver from Cal years ago. If you are driving your car, it is A nice way to go. We had fun, did not over drive, and if you have a problem, you have good support. This was years before I phones, we all had CB radios, so now with smart phones, it would be easy to communicate. We had 8 cars in are caravan. Hope you get a group to go.

Yes, I hope we can, the only issue we wouldn't be taking 71 as it has a history of being very dangerous accident wise. I am looking at going around through Erie Penn. and taking small less traveled routes. I was thinking nice and slow, perhaps 3 days as it looks to be 22 hours or so the route I want to go.

When we went, we went the back roads, not the freeway. Going through the middle of Nevada. in July was a little scary. I had a 70 442 with AC, and was not use to seeing my car run that hot, so I got a little scared, and turned it off. It was a hot ride. It was fun, but after that I told my wife I'm buying a trailer, to go to car show after that. Now I'm old and don't do that any more eithier.

This had me laughing out loud.

Have you done any map-checking? MadDoc is in Bolton, Ontario, a little northwest of Toronto. The way for him to go to Bowling Green, as he noted above, is through Erie, PA. Cross into the US at Buffalo or Niagara Falls, and then it's a straight shot due southwest to Bowling Green.

If he's planning a route through your city, which is as about as much in the wrong direction as one can imagine, he needs serious GPS help!

Yes, I prefer to go through the south of lake Erie mainly to stay off of major hiways. I have the T3 rear, (3.91), so it may take longer but I'm retired and time is not an issue. Scenic routes and slower speeds rule!!! ,,So do rest stop areas. LOL.

Well in light of current, "issues" my plans have changed as have some other Canadians. There will not be any boarder crossings for the foreseeable future.

Not to turn this discussion to politics, but I assume you're talking about Trump's putting tariffs on Mexico and Canada? How does this affect your ability to cross the border?

I live very close to a Canadian border crossing (Port Huron), and vehicles are going back and forth on that bridge all the time. I doubt this will change even with the tariffs, especially for private citizens who are just crossing for a short time, such as to go shopping, visit friends, whatever. You're presumably not delivering goods or anything.

Of course, I may be missing something about what the imposition of tariffs will actually do to the ability to cross the border, but I haven't seen anything in this regard in the local papers.

Well, I have looked at map now and I see, I was wrong, not first time... Anyway, if you come in at Port Huron, maybe we could meet...

Maddoctor,
I'm just east of you in Bond Head/ Bradford area. I'm still on the fence about going to the nationals this year.
I will be going to Home coming and the NAOC meet south of Cleveland. With our dollar flushed down the can it will be expensive to buy anything and declaring goods at border when returning could also be an added expense ( not sure how tight our government will be checking incoming now).
We were originally going to take the Starfire to the Nationals along the final 500 Bravada, thinking long and hard about this. I understand the new policy about registering with OCA for the host hotel first but this year to much is in the air. Might end up in one of the overflow hotels across the road.
A lot to think about before going this year.
Steve

Yes, I have canceled my Carlisle trip as well as OCA Nats. My couple of canuck bucks may not amount to too much but that and not going to FLA this winter. I will be heading to Binbrook for the Ontario show in June.
