Old gas station
Old gas station
That is cool! My Aunt and Uncle had a rural Shell station, general store and post office all rolled into one. (wooden framed candy cases and mail slots) They are deceased, but I am having trouble getting copies of two that I found as part of the historical display near where it was located. One pic is from the 50's, which I want to get badly, as that's how I remember it from the early 60's.
Wouldn't it be nice if......
Maybe you could hope into your car and travel back for a fill up

Shamrock??
Did they by any chance sell green gas?
Just for kicks, I did a google search on Shamrock. Interesting history. I have never seen one of these stations, but apparently they still exist in both the USA and Canada.
Did your Grandpa own the store or was he under license? I'm thinking that back in the day, money would be pretty scarce and have no idea what the franchising would have been like back then. According to the historical price of gas, if that store was circa 1946, the price per gallon should be around 21¢ a gallon. WOW! Fill the tank for less than $5.00??? Heck, I'd leave a $10.00 tip!

OK, here's one for you...if you ever find yourself in good ol' Kansas, here is one that a guy I know reproduced.....It's a Skelly station that he had built in his front yard.....here is the link to the story as well. And sorry, didn't mean to hijack the original thread. I just dig old stuff like this.
