Old Coins

So I know that I am a dinosaur and I actually pay with cash quite often. I can always feel when I get older change as soon as it hits my hand. I grabbed a six pack from the local liquor store after I left the grocery store. I could hear the clink of an early something. Turns out it was a 1964 quarter which are still silver. I looked closer and found this...

130 years old. I imagine all the hands that have touched this penny. I dig stuff like that.
Anyone else into or care about old coins anymore?

Yep. I've collected coins on and off since I was a kid. Someone found an old stash if you got both a silver quarter and Indian head penny at the same time!

I got about 20 indian head pennies. I think I have a buffalo nickel, too.

I too have quite a collection. My Morgan silver dollars are my favorites along with some Ben Franklin half dollars. Many Mercury dimes and a bunch of silver quarters.
My Dad got me into collecting coins when I was just a kid.

It's odd. I consistently get old coins from this one liquor store. I have for years. Even though it has changed hands a few times.

I have some Buffalo Head nickles also but they are worn and you can't read the dates.

Its in fair shape too.
Shhhhh....don't say that too loud or we'll have to confiscate all of them and call them something else.

I've got a 1909 SVB penny, I was into mostly pennies when I was a kid but have jugs of them from the 70's on I thought that someday I might sit with a grand kid and sort them. My dad had a great collection, most of which was stolen by some dirtbag friend of mine when I was a teen. But still have a few paper 25 cent bills. I never knew he had until after he died. I used to go to the bank and get rolls of pennies and sift through them. It was a fun hobby.

I have a large cent, a peace dollar, several '64 Kennedy halves, Ike half dollars, an assortment of silver dimes, worn quarters, and more $1 silver certificates than I know what to do with.

My Brother Steve and I used to do the same thing. When we could afford a roll of nickles (2.00) we would do the dame thing. Definitely fun times today's kids would have no clue about.

Maybe you should pass them on now. If they really don't mean much to you pass them on.

My coin collection was traded in to buy my first car, a 1970 Nova. I had that collection from when I was 11 to turning 17 and out it went for the car. No regrets. The big ticket item was the 1909 S VDB in VF condition. My mother and my sisters gave me alot of guff for spending so much money on a penny. Not much was said when I sold it at double what I paid for it. Victory.

That's quite a find No1Oldsfan! My brother & I also used to go to the bank & exchange a roll of pennies for another & sometimes you'd strike paydirt. I still look at my change today for older coins, but very rarely do you even find a wheat back penny today.

Years ago you could buy folders that you placed coins of each year in a little slot. I have these for pennys, dimes, quarters, nickels, etc. I also have two dollar bills from the thirties, they were said to be bad luck but I kept them anyway. Somewhere I have my uncles "short snorter". That is a dollar bill that had all of the crew members names of their bomber during WWII. He was a co-pilot on a B17. If they went to a bar and didn't have it, that person had to buy drinks.

Didn't they call those red ink two dollar bills blood bills. I knew were considered bad luck.

Never said that they didn't mean anything. They were still in circulation when I was a kid, and I always liked the design. Keepers.
