NEW OLD CAR !984 Delta 88 Coup Plan B??
Not sure where this post belongs. Here goes. I have wanted to do they Power Tour since its inception. Never have . I am registered now! Just brought home an 84 88 coupe 75000 original . Beautiful survivor.. Yes I know, pics will be posted, as soon , as I get help. The Delta 88 is replacing my tired 87 cutlass as my summer daily driver. Trans died in the cutlass. Gathered up all the pieces to put a 2004r in it . Been waiting 4 months to have it done with no joy. Have rust free doors trunk lid and nice bumpers for the car. Old age and time means it is wont be ready for the tour. I am going to sell this car now. So I can get plan A ready for next tour . Plan A my 64 convertible sadly is not anywhere near ready for this year. I have owned this car since the middle 70s and will not let it go.

m Plan B is to go on the power tour in the 88. Unless I can get the 64 cutllass ready But I am going.. Plan B, is a common saying with Power Tourers. When the car you want to take is not ready you go to plan B . Was going to go in the 87 cutlass so I guess this is realy plan C Sorry just ignore me . Just excited to be doing something I have wanted to do for 27 years. This 88 drives like a new olds.

I have done 3 Long Hauls, and parts of 7 other Power Tours. I’ll be glad if/when it gets out of the Midwest!! Since I live in the Midwest, there is little I haven’t seen or done. I’d like to combine my desire to travel with my automotive hobby.
The very first a power tour I did was the Route 66. That was probably 20 years ago. I did the Indianapolis and Illinois stops last year.
The caliber of cars has definitely changed over the years. I remember talking to a guy who took his grandfathers big block 70 Monte Carlo out of the barn where it had been parked for 20 years. He heard about Power Tour, decided it was something he wanted to do. He installed new tires, belts, hoses, and a battery, tuned it up, and did the entire tour. He said he had heard about the event the week before. I’m not sure I would have the guys to drive s car that had been sitting for 20 years cross country with a week to prep it, but he did it!! Now, the classic cars are vastly outnumbered by late model stuff. Where is the challenge in driving a late model car still covered by the factory warranty?!
If you plan to take the Olds, I’d consider packing a few spare parts. Unfortunately, Oldsmobile parts aren’t stocked in most parts stores today. I’d suggest a water pump, fuel pump, don’t worry about common tune up parts, starters or alternators. Look the car over well, replace anything questionable. These cars were more than capable of driving cross country when new, properly maintained there is zero reason they won’t today.

Wereplaced the compressor seals cools nice Going down to Nashville to check out some music. Then on to Memphis. Will get my son to post some pics.

Im looking forward to a power tour that isn’t in the Midwest. One of the best power tours I have been on was in 99 or 2000, the Route 66 event.
Im kinda disappointed with the cars that do power tour. The first few years it was mostly customs or classics. Now it’s more late model stuff. Where is the challenge in driving cross country in a car still covered by warranty?
