Norm,

IMHO the "Trick" is to cover up my foul ups with whipped cream

Kinda the same school of thought as "Don't worry about it let the painter catch it"

Norm and James - You guys are both excellent chefs! I'm envious!

The wife has been busy like you guys starting on our Thanksgiving meal. She's having fun using her new Ninja Foodie food processor. She's prepped the pastry for her ginormous pumpkin pie, and pureed the real pumpkin (saved from Halloween) for the filling. Later she'll roll out the crust and bake it. She also processed a whole bunch of sweet potatoes. We eat our sweet potatoes as a casserole dish that has brown sugar, butter, and pecans added to it. An old family recipe of my Mom's. The 27 lb. Turkey will go in early in the morning. We will also be having giblet dressing, the infamous green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, deviled eggs, and her homemade yeast rolls.

I hate myself for cheating - I did not feel like making the crust today. I had enough cooking. I won't feel quite so bad once it's covered in Real Cool Whip.

Chris - Nice! Real pulp from the Halloween Jack-O-Lantern. That's delicious. I've had that style of sweet tators on a couple occasions - darn tasty.

James - I'm not sure what's the handful right out of the can, but I've had some darn good tasty BBQ beef sandwiches with those little boogers piled on the sandwich. Pretty tasty.

She also makes homemade dog treats from the pumpkin (with oatmeal and eggs) that are very healthy for them.

On another note, I think the canned onion rings might work here, as well - not sure. (November 5, 2021)

Norm, I guess I should make a persimmon pudding with the pulp sometime. It lasts frozen for a couple years. Might go check other trees tomorrow, mine is done.

John - There are 2 trees in our club property, I get the majority from one tree. Last week it still had many persimmons remaining on branches. I have 3 more cups in the freezer.

I also want to wish you great guys a Happy Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for, for sure. OK about Thanksgiving dishes, my Mom made canned green beans with sautéed bacon and onion pieces- I loved that, also a very simple salad with Mayo and onions and garlic salt in it. OH but the VERY BEST??? Oh yeah, Jellied Cranberry Sauce. Yep this still is a family tradition, I'll bet I will get to have some today at my sisters Thanksgiving feast. It takes some huge talent and a steady hand to come out perfectly. I wish I had a pic of it from prior years. The experienced chef must take the container of the Cranberry sauce, open it gently with a high quality can opener, then turn over and open other end, push lid thru can and sit on end on a plate, if done carefully and correctly it will be a glorious shivering cylinder of jell with can mold marks on it!! Oh I love it, no one eats it but it is a family joke that persists. I hope you all can enjoy your families today.

To All Who Frequent This Thread,

Today I have many things to be thankful for, and I am very thankful to have gotten to know you guys who are regulars on this thread. I have learned a bunch from all of you and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I appreciate your compassion and prayers when we're ill or facing one of life's tough moments. I Really appreciate you letting me drone on about my wife, my kids, and my dogs, without telling me to can it. Most of all, I appreciate how you make me laugh and smile! Collectively as a group, I don't think I've ever known a nicer or finer group of gentlemen!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING GUYS!

Gobble Gobble.

Good morning everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving! Dinner at noon. Lunch? My niece always puts on a nice spread. I think my sister pays for it all.

Trip down yesterday was awful. Heavy traffic the whole way. Twice I sat in 30+ minutes of accident traffic. I think I'll pass on coming down on a holiday weekend from now on.

I am most thankful for this website and all you guys. CO is the first thing I look at when I turn on the computer, and the last thing I look at when I turn it off.

Hope everyone has a great day. Don't eat too much.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

We're doing things just a bit differently this year.

Got some smoked turkey from Rudy's BBQ (oh man, that's good stuff any time of the year) instead of cooking one ourselves.
The wife has a crock pot of blackeyed peas and sausage simmering, and oh boy does it make the house smell good.
I made my signature cornbread for dressing - whole wheat flour, stone ground corn meal, and a diced up garden serrano pepper. The wife will use it to make her Granmma's cornbread dressing using breakfast sausage (Own's Hot, of course).

Dunno what's for dessert yet. Might bake something if the mood hits me.

I'll admit I ate too much before retiring to sleep last night. Needed a glass of Baking Soda + H2O this morning.

Chris! I tried to post that picture but I couldn't get it to work.

Greg that's exactly how cranberry sauce is served at any of our meals that have it. I don't think anyone eats it.

I'm on a break. We had a huge, excellent meal and then the "grown ups" were sitting around, and I said I had to come take care of Tiger. I'll go back in a little bit and we'll have dessert.

Norm I think that's what Archie Bunker calls a bicarb.

We were talking about snow at dinner. We're all from the north, and I said I know a guy in Phoenix who always gives us the weather report. He says it isn't winter yet out there. I'm glad any more those winter events are just bad memories.

Nice here, maybe 70. It's getting dark and it isn't even 5. Sheesh.

James - You must have skipped past the Intro in the Shed Building 101 textbook. It specifically states you should start by making a list of all the things you would like to store in your shed, calculate the square footage needed to store those items, then multiply the Sq.Ft. by 1000 to determine the size of shed you should build!

Good morning everyone.

Yesterday was a success and what a nice time we had. It must have been nice because my Mom even said, that was a nice time. She seldom compliments anything.

Turkey Rod Run. This is the first time in years that I've missed it. It's my fault, I didn't call soon enough to get the dog in to the kennel. Eh, this was a good time here.

Jamesbo, are you throwing out things that are truly junk or things you just don't want that isn't actually junk? Or tomato cages?

Speaking of M38's, my neighbor has one slowly sinking into the mud in a shed behind his house. He also has a Deuce with a hard top, that I've been trying to talk him out of(the hardtop, the rest of the truck is toast). He's old and goofy, and has a shitty son. So when he croaks none of that stuff will go where it needs to.

Mom is fixing my breakfast and then it's time to head home. Nice day today. I don't need to be in a hurry and can get ready for work at my regular time.

Have a good day everyone. And miles to go before I sleep.

Mike, I'm trying to give tomatoes cages to anyone that gardens.

The junk is headed for the dumpster

Right now I'm having a turkey sandwich made with this stuff

I enjoy renting dumpsters. It's like the dump comes to you. I rented a 20 cubic yard and a 10 cubic yard later on to clean out grandma's. Problem was, I was sweating so much, brushing through poison ivy, that I then got poison ivy in the second worst possible spot.

Have a good day everyone. And miles to go before I sleep.
Frost...very cultured of you, sir.

I didn't do thanksgiving. I would've been happy to grill, but my regulator seems kaput. I run cheap Coleman Roadtrips that rust out about every five years. I will try to keep this one going, worth 20 bucks for a regulator.

Working these next three days.
