Hi everyone.

About the same day today as yesterday. Although the third person was there all day, so I only signed off 39 wheels. We're so low on people it's amazing we get anything done. Eh, I go in, do my work, go home.

Was nice today and fairly warm, but it's cooling off quick. Gonna clean up in the kitchen a little bit then watch some TV before bed.

Jamesbo do you have muscadines growing in your yard? My neighbor has them and they grow all over the fence and hang into my yard. I'm afraid Tiger will eat them so I always pick them up off the ground and pick them off the vines if he can reach them. So far I don't know if he's paid them any mind but I do it anyway.

CW some people just can't be helped.

Norm it looks like the area you are fixing gets bigger and bigger every time you take a picture.

Well tomorrow is Hump Day and you know what that means. Last full day of the work week. For now I'm done with Tuesday. Have a good evening everyone.

Good evening guys,

Cold and gray here today, only got up to 33 and we had a couple short periods of sleet. Warmer tomorrow with a high of 50, but rain in the forecast all day.

As much as I hated it, we made a trip to Walmart for fresh produce and some other essentials. We went mid-afternoon so it wasn't too bad. We're looking at the Walmart delivery service for the future because the Covid positivity rate is getting so high. I think my wife and I are both in agreement it would be worth the cost until we can get our vaccinations.

My oldest daughter and her husband were finally able to close on their new house yesterday, but not without a scare and 2-hour delay. Seems the Title Company misplaced their loan packet and it took 2-hours for them to track it down. We're going to help them move the big stuff on Saturday. They do not need to be in a rush because they haven't even put their current house on the market yet. They aren't concerned because their house is in nice shape, and in a prime location. With the extremely low interest rates houses around here are being snapped up within 24-hours of going on the market.

My wife didn't really have any empty bench space in her shop, or another suitable table for her new miter saw, so she ordered her a portable miter saw stand. The stand is a "Wen", the same brand as her Band saw. I helped her assemble it, and I don't know much about them, but it seemed to be pretty heavy duty with several nice features.

Hope everyone had a nice day and has a relaxing evening.

That really is sad, I never had a hostile confused customer but we did have some elderly dementia/ alzheimers people. We also did no heat calls ( jacks of all trades, master of none) , anyway, I remember one sweet old gal who called the utility 38 times in one month. I was the same guy to come to her place, probably 8 times and sometimes twice a day. We were the gas utility and once a call came in we had to be there at the residence in one hour if it was a "gas emergency". Those 38 calls were divided- some were no heat and others were "gas emergencies". She would not remember the earlier call of the day, once she didn't remember she had even called, I woke her up about 11 pm. Her problem was she couldn't operate the thermostat. So we changed it to a standard old dial tstat and that got her confused, then went back to a non-programmable digital, but that also didn't work. I was on call which is why I got so many calls over the weekend to her place. Finally the bosses got a hold of her younger relative- never heard from her again. She was so nice and you just had to love her... so sad, she probably went to a home.

James - The dogs always put on their "I'm bored" face when they're not the center of attention or being played with. They have an old couch and lazy boy chair right next to Momma's shop to sleep in when she's working just so they can stay close to her. They're so damned spoiled it ain't funny!

Interesting read about the native grapes. I knew Muscadines were a southern variety, but I had never heard of Scuppernongs. My Grandma had Concord grapes among all the other varieties of fruit on their farm, we loved them.

My wife would love a visit to Norm's right now and would work for free to escape the nastiness of winter. However, with the cost of lumber these days, I don't think she's ready for a project the size Norm's yet. Won't be long though, she's a quick learner.

Norm - That is mighty fine work you're doing! Good luck getting done before the rain comes. I'm pretty sure the rain you're supposed to get is what we're getting right now.

Greg - I'm sure the snow is pretty, but I don’t miss it one bit!

Johnny - Nice looking new toy! Enjoy!

Nice! It's time to get out and explore the desert, and maybe add some "Arizona pinstriping" to that rig.

You could come along with me for some of this:

We have an Amazon Prime account and sometimes it seems like half the charges on my monthly VISA statement are from Amazon. I'm not going to bitch too much though, she's pretty damn frugal, comparison shops to get the best price, and keeps us out of the stores and away from the "RONA".

I have made my own Muffaletta dressing many times by chopping up a bunch of green olives and then soaking them in Italian dressing for a few days, but the pre-made would be easier, and probably better, coming from Nawlins.

I found a home for my 'extra' 403 V8. My brother is taking it with the plan of installing it in his 1968 Pontiac Tempest. I get a little of my garage back, he gets his sweet ride moving again. He threw a rod in the Poncho 400 that I put in it when I was 19. The car had a I6/powerglide originally. The TH400 has been solid. This pic was back when it was mine, and I had a V6 Firebird winter car. My focus shifted to Oldsmobiles a little later.

Well, Greg, we got a bit of snow down here as well, about 6-7" followed by rain. The snowblower didn't want to handle it, and kept sputtering and shutting down. I pulled the plastic cover from over the carb to have a look see, and the carb was leaking like a sieve. Managed to get the driveway done, and called the local repair shop (which is busy as hell, of course), they will call to pick it up. I thought about pulling the carb, and just ordering a new one online, but this Snapper has been a pain in the **** since I bought it, and I'll see if they will give me anything in trade for a new Toro, which I had before. It lasted 27 years. JOlds44, I like the Blazer, looks good. Curve, I had a '69 Lemans back in 1980 when I had my '66 GTO. The Lemans was my winter beater. The floor mounted auto in mine had 3-2-1 on the right side of the shifter aligned with D-S-L on the other side. What I found out years later, was this was Pontiac's own dual gate, used to replace the Hurst unit used in '67 & '68. Not a fan of green olives, so I will have to pass on the Muffuletta.

Dan and Greg- I really jinxed myself this morning when I told Greg I sure don't miss the snow. I'm almost 600-miles south of you guys and it's snowing big ole flakes right now. Only saving grace is the roads and ground are too warm for it to stick.

My Dad had a 69 Lemans with the 350/4bbl, TH350 in the center console, it was gold with a black vinyl roof and rallye wheels. I don't know why he decided to buy it, but I didn't like it at the time because he traded in our 67 CS Holiday Coupe for it, which was my favorite car we ever had when I was a boy.

Hi everyone.

Coldish here and overcast. So I'm staying in. Funny, the car said 50 when I went to work at 5 this morning and I thought it felt pretty warm. But at 11 when I went to lunch and 230 when I came home the car said 50 and it seemed cold as hell. Hm. Speaking of work, I again signed 39 wheels. It would have been more but my wall guy left early.

I used to get giardiniera on my pizza up home. I'm not a fan of olives either so whatever they happen to be in I just pick them out. Besides that that does look like a good sandwich.

One car I've never owned is a Pontiac. Can't say there's any I'd lust after. Maybe a Bandit Trans Am.

So this one from the department of Mike Should Be Smarter Than This. I happened to notice when I was downstairs a little while ago that the switchplate on the outlet the Dustbuster is plugged into looked dirty or dusty. So I took a swipe with my fingers and nothing came off. Unplugged the DB and saw where the plug had turned brown over most of it and what looked like dust on the switchplate actually was burnt. Not like there was fire, but just being hot for periods of time. That thing has been plugged in there forever. I don't even know how old it is, my Mom gave it to me when it would stop holding a charge. I leave it plugged in and it has just enough juice for a few seconds. Never really thought about it. Well, it is now no more. No clue how long that's been like that.

Well, dinner then I don't know what. One more tomorrow and it sounds like business as usual. I only hope the others don't suddenly get a burst of speed and finish early. That's like shooting ourselves in the foot, but no one ever thinks about that. Have a good evening everyone.

Hi everyone.

Another misty, overcast day. The car again said 50 and I think it might be stuck on that. No way it's 50 out.

We finished up work a little after 11. Hit the Awful house afterward. Gonna stay inside this afternoon and putter around.

I'm staying home and inside tonight. The guns will start being shot in a couple hours. Yes with real bullets. I've heard a falling bullet will go through a roof and kill someone. Not sure about all that, that's the roof and the ceiling to slow it down, but just in case I might go hang out in the basement. Oh wait, someone already did that. Maybe Tiger and I will wear hard hats.

Okay have a good afternoon everyone.

I can't comment without being political, but perhaps a nice bullet proof vest, (because of the nice styling of course.)
Isn't the $600. just for low income people? Anyhow, I'm sure it will all sort itself out in a year or two.

Nice, let the gub'mint buy you some boolits.
Lemme know where you're shopping so I can tag along. Seems the shelves are empty everywhere I look. I'd love to get some reloading components but those are out of stock everywhere as well. I need some more quail loads before the season ends.

If it's the same rules as before I'm not getting $600. But if I do, and even if I don't, I'll have to consider some personal protection. I mean, I hate to say it but right now Tiger is the first line of defense. But if he gets taken out, I'm toast.

Maybe I could buy ammo and then when the place becomes a vast wasteland, I can barter for things.

The amount of ammo and other pyrotechnics being used this evening might be better off being saved. But this is a Swan Lake tradition. Shoot up in the air on New Years.

Speaking of Tiger, it sounds like WW3 around here, and he is laying sleeping, not paying any mind to the booms and bangs.

Glad to hear that. Our young 'un is mellow, but the older girl is totally freaked out by the pops and bangs. She is constantly quivering and we have to tranquilize her and let her hide in the closet under the hanging clothes (her den). Poor girl.

Ya know, if the Govt. insists on throwing another freebie at us that we don't need, we'll do exactly what we did with the last one, give it to our favorite charities . . . our grandchildrens' college funds!

De Super model wanted green beans along with blacked eyed peas, collard greens and corn bread. So I got sum yesterday, along with sum salt pork to cook in them

This mawn'in, I said, What the heck , I haven't had fried streak of lean since Hector was a pup

Mike, Since I know you're gonna ax. It's basically was poor peoples bacon that instead of smoked is preserved in salt. It's Mostly fat and now a days cost more than bacon

Happy new year Olds friends

HAPPY NEW YEAR OLDs FRIENDS,

James - My Mom always cooked her fresh green beans with salt pork in them. In the summer when we'd have fresh tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden they'd be chopped up and used as a topping on the cooked green beans, they went great together. Of course there was the obligatory buttermilk cornbread to go with the greenbeans. Never heard of the uncured bacon called "fried steak of lean", but I love the taste of crispy pork fat so I'd probably love it.

We're getting hammered with ice right now as forecasted! I hope we don't lose power. I'm seeing there are several areas through Texas and Arkansas are without power. Like I said yesterday, there's no need to be out today, so we won't. Still dark here right now at 0530 so it's hard to tell how much ice is actually out there or how bad the roads are. Not sure what this will mean for our plans tomorrow to help my daughter move the big stuff to their new house. Seems like 2021 is starting out just as crazy and unpredictable as 2020!

James - We have a small well known local butcher shop near us that I'm pretty sure I could find it at. I'll have to try it some time. They're pretty pricey, so we don't usually shop for most of our meat there, but once in awhile we get the urge for a really good steak and we'll go there and pick out a couple of really nice thick ribeyes or porterhouse.

Checked the forecast for the rest of the day since I was on here last. Ice is supposed to continue for the next 2-hours and then turn to rain which is supposed to last until about noon, with a high of 43. The warmer rain and the high of 43 should get the ice off the roads. I'm guessing there isn't a bunch of ice on the roads anyway between the ground temperature and chemical pre-treating I saw on most of the roads when I was out yesterday afternoon.
