Well, When ya get a trophy every time ya show up for practice, ya must think you're more special than you really are

I agree, a short trip to SE Asia to "kill a commie for Christ" changes ones perspective

James - It looks like two slips with a center pier. Is the center a floating pier or stationary? Does the lake pretty much remain the same height throughout the year?

Norm, You may have missed the post/pics where the guy was driving post into the lake bed. It's all stationary except for the floating swim dock on the right. Ga Power drops the lake every winter so people can work on their docks/sea walls

I am very luck to know these guys, The guy on the saw, uncle built my house and his father painted, the guy taking the pics comes from a family of 10, I think 5 of them worked on my house. They're like family And can do anything, All of the brothers live on top of a mountain on land their father owned GREAT People

James - Sounds like a clan of construction craftsmen. You are lucky you know those guys! That is going to be really nice!

Last summer we decided we wanted to fence our back yard and re-do our deck which was original to the house and 15-years old. Our original deck did not have any stairs to the back yard. We wanted stairs so we could just let the dogs out onto the deck and they could just go down the stairs to the fenced back yard and do their business. The first three well known deck builders we had out all told us they could not build the deck, with the stairs, without either the stairs or some of the supporting piers ending out in the yard. We didn't want either. Then I found a small outfit that consisted of only two younger Amish brothers. I described what we envisioned, they took a few measurements, and then immediately said, yes we can do that. Within just a couple days I had blueprints of just what we had envisioned and the pics were the result. The skill of those guys was absolutely amazing!

Dan - They did a great job on the deck/staircase build - very nice. I built a very similar indoor staircase while renovating a 1901 home I owned in Milwaukee, WI. I converted the upper large attic space into two large bedrooms + closets. The challenge was to minimize lost space on the 1st floor so I built a 180° landing between the 1st & 2nd floors just like the one in your pic. The area (void) under the landing was fashioned with a door for storage space.

The last time (a couple weeks ago) I fired up my Husqvarna 445 it treated me poorly. In between golf & other projects I now have it cleaned & torn down on a workbench. I don't treat this thing like it's something I depend on for income so it doesn't necessarily get much TLC. So far, nothing mechanical appears to be suspect - clutch looks good, clutch springs look good, needle bearings look good, the oiler was a little wavy gravy but cleaned up fine, fuel filter not clogged, looks clean, fuel lines all look good, the piston looks good (maybe burning a little rich which is fine), ignition looks good but it was certainly packed with oil, dust & debris. Of course the air filter was the first thing I removed and it was literally caked w/ dust. I tried cleaning it but that wasn't working. I'm beginning to suspect the hard start and bogging down are the result of no air for combustion e.g. clogged air filter - you'd think I'd know to change that thing occasionally! Quite possibly the fact I let it sit all winter with old fuel in it isn't helping. So, I'm heading out to remove the little spark arrestor screen from under the muffler - which I am most likely going to find is thoroughly clogged with a build-up of icky-gooey carbon (hopefully). That will make me feel better about my current theory: No air in & no air out = improper maintenance by operator.

Good morning everyone.

Not a fun time at the Awful house today. What they dreamed up today was one seat at the high counter, which someone was sitting in, and I think three tables available to sit in. Of course the low counter was completely open. Apparently the virus knows to stay away from the low counter. So I sat there. Sheesh, it's like sitting on the floor.

Overcast today and it looks like rain. I had thought about the junkyard but I think I'll go there tomorrow. I'm gonna work on the new Cutlass today.

Jamesbo the boat house is looking good. You've talked about those guys before. Artisans is what they are.

Norm the chain saw will thank you for the extra care you're giving it. Your reward will be an excellent running saw so you can cut down every tree in sight. I have to ask this. Is it typical for people from Milwaukee to say they are from, or are referring to Milwaukee, WI? Milwaukee is a pretty well known city, and as far as I know there's only one, but I think every time I've heard someone mention Milwaukee they've tacked on "WI" onto the end of it. Now, I'm from Park Forest, IL, so sometimes I will say IL on the back, but if I say I'm from Chicago I never say IL after it. Even in Australia I don't do it. Just something odd I thought of.

Dream that's a big house. Very nice. The staircase and deck look great. I used to have stairs that went from the porch down into the middle of the yard. Didn't make much sense. When I needed new stairs put in I had them run off the side of the porch and not into the middle of the yard. The guys that did them were Mexican guys that had done a lot of work for my neighbor, and I called them over and said, this is what I want. They went to work and did it. No plans, I don't even think they measured. Posts went into concrete, stringers went up, railings, stair treads, done in a day. Looked awesome. Oh and they rebuilt the railing to cover where the old stairs went down. Here's hoping we can get skilled craftsmen in the future. Those sorts of people are a dying breed anymore.

That is an over the top house and boathouse in the video. Does all that stuff stay with the house when it's sold? There was a guy some years ago with a big yacht in Charlevoix that had an Amphicar on the back deck. There was a little crane that would pick the car up and set it in the water and retrieve it. Perfect for a beer run when you're out in big water.

Okay Happy Saturday everyone. Have a good day.

Norm - Thanks for the compliment, but it was Chris Nixon (Dream67Olds442) than posted it. No problem, I am still trying to learn the first names of the "regulars" in this thread. Sounds like you a are a much better carpenter than I am. There's no way I'd want to try something like that, I know it would turn out like something Fred Flintstone built.

Mike - Our house really isn't all that big, it just looks that way from the back because of the walk-out basement. It's just a 3-bedroom ranch style with about 1,900 sq.ft., and has an unfinished basement under all of it. The part of it I really like is that it has a 3-car garage to keep my toys in. The garage is my man cave. Next big project is to insulate my garage doors, finish the drywall and paint, and add heating, then I can live out there.

I just got in from tinkering withe my 442. I checked the ATF a couple days ago for the first time and it was at the fill line (pint low). I didn't have any Dexron III/Mercon so I had to go to the parts store yesterday to get some. Put it in this morning and warmed it up to recheck and she's good now. Probably going to go to a small show tomorrow in a small town about 20-miles from me. My youngest daughter and her husband and 2-boys live there and will come to see grandpa if I go. It's overcast and supposed to rain today, but it's supposed to be 80 and sunny tomorrow. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I agree on the Amish, as some of the regulars here know, I have used them a couple of times, roof, coat rack & bench, and a couple of shelves that should be ready in a couple of weeks. They do great work.. Cut a small tree down in the front yard yesterday. It was half dead, about 10" diameter and 12' tall. The cutting down was the easy part, but cutting up the branches and larger pieces to take to the curb, just absolutely killed my back. I may have to hire out that type of work in the future. I'm just a stubborn kraut who hates to shell out for stuff that I can do myself. Considering on what I spend for cortisone injections, I think that it might be cheaper. Made some Challah bread french toast this morning, yum. 1 1/2" thick slices soaked in an egg/heavy cream/milk & egg combo, with cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg. Dusted with powdered sugar, and a bit of syrup. Burp! I will be headed to the Gilmore tomorrow (finally) for the first car show of the season for me. If it is dry next weekend, then I'll be at the Purestock Musclecar drags. Greg, how far are you from Pentwater? Their Octoberfest is still on. Maybe you can swing that way before you put the Olds up for the winter.

Breaktime.

I was at a good stopping point, and my neighbor was out so I went to talk to him, and decided I should mow some more instead of tinkering.

Didn't get the car started. I hooked up jumper cables to the ~15 year old battery and got lights, and the engine turned about 1/8 turn then clicks. I pulled on the belts ahead of time so I knew it wasn't stuck. Left the cables on about a half hour or so and still got nothing. And the old guy said the battery should be fine...

What I did do is pull out the seat bottom of the back seat. I was really hoping to see the Broadcast card but it wasn't there. In fact, it didn't look like it had ever been there. Did the New Jersey cars not have it there? Aside from a lot of mouse **** there were no mouse nests, and nothing was chewed up. Upholstery looks original, but it's ugly as hell, even for the 70s. Lots of wiring issues under the dash and under the hood. Once it's running and has new tires I'll worry about all that.

Dream if the walk out basement is unfinished, that's the perfect place for parking for a few more cars. Have fun at the show tomorrow.

Dan that's me with the tree. I'll cut my own tree down, how hard can it be? Well, that answer didn't turn out so well a few years ago. You must not have a fireplace if you're taking it to the curb.

Okay gonna find something else to do. See ya's.

Mike, nope no fireplace (I wish). A Jersy built car may have the build sheet on top of the gas tank, under the insulation mat. Broadcast card may be anywhere, under the carpet, in the seat springs front or rear.

Dan - You made me really hungry with your talk about the French Toast. That sounds really, really good.

Mike - Don't think I haven't thought about storing vehicle in my basement, at least my motorcycles so I could get my truck in the garage in the winter. I thought maybe if I got one of those double doors instead of the slider I could get them in there. I looked at it more and decided that even with the double door there was no way I could maneuver those big bikes safely in the very limited space in front of the door. Would have been nice though.

Hope everyone has a nice evening. Haven't decided for sure if I'm going to that show tomorrow or not, but if I do I'll post some pics tomorrow evening..

Mike - I'm not from Milwaukee (remember). Born in Chicago, IL & raised in Elgin, IL. I believe the city name Milwaukee followed by the state WI is simply old habit.

Dan & Dream - Regarding who said what w/ respects to the staircase porch pics. Oh yeah. Sorry 'bout that.

Dan - That French Toast sounds killer!

I pulled & cleaned the spark arrestor on the Huskie 445 - it was not clogged. Did a final cleaning, air gun blasting & re-assembled the clutch. After which it was time for golf. I'll order couple new air filters for it later on tonight, tomorrow I'll finish reassembling. I'll fire it up tomorrow w/o the air filter to see if I'm trending in the right direction.

I called ahead for a 20" pizza w/ green pepper, mushroom & onion toppings prior to leaving the golf course. Picked it up on the way home. It's hands-down our best pizza place around - this thing is delicious.

I issued a parking citation to a motor vehicle today in the grocery store parking lot. I carry a pad of these in my glove box.
James - I purchased them in a novelty shop years ago in Little Five Points.
Feel free to download and make copies. Make some A$$HOLE'S day!

Norm, in Little 5 Points? Must have been at the Junkman's Daughter. The Vortex next door has awesome hamburgers. Yes I remember you're from Chicago but when you said Milwaukee WI it just struck me.

Dream the house I wanted to buy back in the spring had a huge walkout basement with a roll up garage door in the corner. I could have probably fit 8 cars in there. But alas, it was not to be.

Dan I have the build sheet to the car. I don't know where it was, it was in a folder with some other paperwork when I bought the car. You can't imagine how giddy I was to see it. I know all the cars but Lansing cars have the build sheet, but I only have Lansing cars, so this was exciting. I heard once, and I have no idea if this is true or not, that some of the plants didn't have a stamping plant, and the body parts were shipped in from Lansing to build the body. I sort of hope this is true.

Well I didn't get anything else done after break. Well I did clean the bathroom. That's because it started raining a little bit and I wasn't going to be outside. After that, I talked on the phone for a couple hours, fixed my dinner and then talked on the phone some more. A good day, though.

And that's it for me. A little more surfing the internet and I'll hit the sack. Hope everyone has a good evening.

Norm, that was a lot more polite than the "parking ticket" my Dad showed me back in the 1980s when he was a city police officer.

I have a friend from College, Whose father owned a bakery in Miami [That's Florida] They sold all the bread to Joe's stone Crab

Anyway he can make Challah bread blindfolded in his sleep . Although he hated working for his father he still bakes all his own bread

Once he taught me hod to make Bagels [and it ain't worth the trouble]

But his specialty is sour dough raisin bread french toast. He makes it when he and his bride come up to the lake. It ll make ya slap yo mama

Have a great day Olds friends

Kenneth - Sounds like your Dad had a good sense of humor - love it.
It's nice to see we have so many chefs & cooks.
A very slight drizzle of rain this morning - reminds me of London, GB and/or Leland, MI but w/o the fog.
The Huskie 445 is in the patient waiting room - time to head into the man-cave.

Good morning everyone.

Sleeping in today meant 7:42. That was after getting up at 5 to go outside and waving Tiger off at 7. I don't know why he has to be up so early. It isn't like he has a demanding schedule that needs getting to.

A little overcast this morning but some blue sky is present. No rain forecast so I'm headed to the junkyard. Nothing on my must-have list but who knows what one finds. I bring with me a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips, and waterpumps. If I can't get something with those then I don't need it. But if I still need something I have more tools in the truck, I just don't want to carry them around.

Two things I've decided I need, one is a high-paying job in southeastern Alabama, and two is a giant warehouse, also in southeastern Alabama. Feel free to help me out if anyone can.

Okay off I go. I'll report back with my findings of the junkyard. Exciting stuff for sure.

There are a couple salvage yards w/in ~10-15 miles from me. I've picked up a couple things for my 2003 F-250, just basic stuff like rear tail light lenses, etc. but I've never searched the yards for any A-Body items. I've thought about it several times and I enjoy rummaging. I think I might make some trips to see what they have on the menu. Since I live in the boonies, there may be some hidden treasure.

I'm thinking it was a combination of: (1) Clogged air filter & (2) Old fuel. After essentially a complete disassembly (I did not remove the carburetor) & thorough cleaning (with all previous oil & fuel removed). I left the clogged air filter removed. After fresh fuel & oil it fired up but was still bogging down at higher RPM - to the point it would/could stall and shut off. At this point I was suspecting carbon build-up in cylinder, saturated spark plug and possibly fuel varnish (gum) in carburetor so I sprayed choke cleaner into the carburetor & you could hear the choke cleaner gurgling & gurgling for quite some time most likely the result of being hot and burning off the choke cleaner. It then took some time to start back up. After ~15 minutes it fired up and I allowed it to run for ~15 minutes burning off residual choke cleaner and allowing the fresh fuel to circulate. The bogging is completely gone & it's running like a champion.

Well the junkyard was a bust. They wouldn't let me in without a mask. The world has gone mad for sure. But if you didn't have one they'd sell you one. I said, do I have to wear it amongst the junk cars? No just in here. It was less than 20 feet to the yard, and they expected me to give them a dollar, wear the mask for 20 feet and then take it off. I'll stop here so Jamesbo doesn't have to throw me out.

Gonna mow this afternoon. Just beautiful out. Norm I might even be inspired to sharpen the chain saw and cut up a few things.

I guess emphatically it means cops ahead, but it generally always suggests radar ahead.

Mike - Sorry the junkyard was a bust. What a bunch of jackarses!

Norm - Glad the Huskie is feeling better!

The car show today was awesome, so much better than the last one I went to because the weather was so much nicer. Partly sunny, a high of only 80, low humidity, and a cool north breeze. The announcer said they broke their record number of entries by a lot, there were 178 cars there. My car was in a pretty tough class, 1960 - 1969 Stock/OEM, and I'm using the terminology Stock/OEM loosely. There were a lot of really nice Chevelles, Camaros, Mustangs, Road Runners, Challengers, GTXs, and GTOs to compete with. Didn't realistically expect to place against some really nice +$80K cars and I didn't but I still had a really nice time. My daughter and 2 grandsons came to see Grandpa's hot rod, so that made my day. Enjoy the pics. The pics of motor bays belong to the pic of the car that preceded it. Of course I saved the best pics for last!

Speaking of car shows, the one at the Gilmore had a decent turnout. Normally this show has 400-500 cars, but due to covid, they restricted entries. One of my favorites is a '63? Ford Galaxy 500XL convertible in blue. My pics didn't do it justice. https://photos.app.goo.gl/AwVesqK9ibTeU4cx7
