The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Last minute rain has put the cruise in, out of commission. That's okay, I didn't want to go out anyway. Got the kitchen cleaned up and now I'm about ready for bed.
Greg the original rotors had those grooves, never saw a replacement one with them. Tell your friend he just may be the straw that gets me to buy a Three Hundred.
So Jamesbo what was the problem? Clogged fuel filter I'm guessing. That guy a straight shift?
Well the pressure is off, Monday is over. Now we can get on with the rest of the week. Have a good night everyone.

Dan, great pictures! There were a few there I could have easily gone home with!
Instead I came home with a 2004 Toyota Camry Solara Convertible. I now own 3 convertibles, and I live in balmy Alberta in Canada. Talk about an utterly useless winter car. You could say I'm prepared for when global warming (or climate change or whatever it's spun as this week) comes.
At any rate, it's a nice car, it's in great shape mechanically, has about 60,000 miles on it and a few old man scrapes and dings. It's also loaded, so it's quite a nice ride. Have no idea what will happen in winter though, but what the hey, it was free so I shouldn't complain. Too bad it rained all the way back from the coast, I'd love to see how the car works with the top down, but then again, we haven't had summer here yet and the top has only been down on one of my convertibles once this year.
Anyway, not much new this week, - yet...
Have a good evening!

Mike, that was the logic of the promoter, but in my opinion it didn't need to be there. Yes, it is a well know historical race car, but this was an Olds show, so it made no sense. Greg, I guess that we will have to wait and see if it returns, a lot of people there are hoping so. The swap meet was very small, too bad, but if the show comes back, maybe word will get out, and more vendors will show up. Well, Mark, at only 60,000 miles on the clock, that Toyota should be good for another 200,000 miles.
Mike, No it's an auto. For reasons I've never fully understand this truck has always had trouble with dampness in the distributor
This time it acted differently so I thought it was the fuel pump Once it dried out it cranked and ran like a charm [that probably needs a new catalytic converter]
I put 1/2 ton of pecan stone in it to fill sum spots in the driveway and it made it home so [I guess] all is good
Family coming this morning
Have a great day Olds friends

Good morning everyone.
Didn't realize I hadn't posted anything yesterday. Sorry Jamesbo, so much for my perfect attendance award. Must have been nice weather everywhere.
Took the Aura to have the tires balanced. All four were out of balance. Doesn't say much for the place that put them on. Now it rides a lot smoother. Might get out of buying that extra rim to replace the bent one.
Question for the all knowing. In my never ending search for a trailer, I see that some trailers are made out of C channel, and for some reason I get the idea that's bad. What should it be made of, and why is C channel bad? I'd hate to get a trailer and then put a truck or something on it and have it bend in the middle.
Break is over. Most of us came in at 4 today because we're having a meal and if we're caught up we can go home after the meal. Slept good last night, still tired. Eh.
Have a good day everyone.

Mike- I'm not certain C-Channel steel pipe is a bad thing. I think the type of steel channel style (and of course the gauge) is most important relative to the application & how the material is fabricated (C-Channel vertical or horizontal, open face top-side, open face bottom-side, open face outward-facing, open face inward-facing, etc.). I'm no expert on this stuff, but mentally I picture it like this. I imagine I need a piece of metal to fabricate something - a go-cart frame, a vehicle body frame, a building frame, or whatever. My man-cave out building is constructed of 14' high vertical H channel steel (16"x16"), the horizontal beams (cross-members) are C-Channel galvanized aluminum (open face, bottom-facing). If I think of the best framing, I think of a solid piece of metal as the best piece of metal to employ. Yet, that would be expensive and very heavy, indeed. So, instead, various types/styles of Channels are manufactured (H-Channel, U-Channel, Box-Channel, C-Channel, etc.). The load and/or deflection of load (bearing weight) is certainly important and I'm no expert and have no access to a CAD file system.
Also, note the style in which the object is fabricated. A box-framed trailer with simple C-Channel steel on the exterior - how many cross-members between the exterior C-Channel steel frame? Are the cross-members of the same gauge? What supports the cross-members as the foundation? Are the cross-members zig-zag (criss-crossed) or perpendicular to the exterior. In general, I would be more concerned (if the trailer was new) regarding the GVWR stated on the label. Solid steel is probably the best, Box-Channel next, H-Channel next, U-Channel next, C-Channel next, etc. But, being no expert I really don't have a clue to be honest. And, again, it would surely seem the orientation of the steel channel (whatever style is employed) would certainly make a difference relative to weight and load-bearing application.

Norm, did you say Bradley Lake was where you have land? I saw a sign for Bradley lake on old 27 north of Grayling. I had never noticed it before. Did you see my thread in general discussion about the 27 tour? you may enjoy it as you know the area - lots of pics.
Today I go to my doctor for follow up on my collar bone break. It has been 2 weeks and is so much better. Sure has slowed me down on finishing up the shop, that's ok. If it had to happen it was a good time as no big projects are in progress.

Mike, I had a Donzi that had the worst POS trailer ever made. Wish I could remember who made it but the tongue had to be rewelded a few times

Greg- Yes, Lake Bradley on Old 27. It’s a nice area & was supposed to be developed into this nice wilderness community area, so everyone was told at sale time. Only to find out I’d been bamboozled going on 46 years ago. Argh!
Shocker- we are now entering what I refer to as summer. July and August are oppressive months of high humidity and temperatures - more like residing in an iron foundry. Summer will now last until end of November. Bring it on. Of course, there’s these darn hurricanes we have to contend with for a couple months. Stay away!
Welcome Shocker. I saw in my AutoWeek daily that Jessi Combs, one of the co hosts of many of Velocity's car shows, died yesterday in a land speed attempt at Bonneville. She was trying to break her own record set last year. What a shame.
Norm it's the gift that keeps on giving!
Got out about a half hour early today. Apparently the lead didn't make himself clear when he said we need to finish up so we can enjoy the day, so most of the workers left early for lunch and we were still about 50 wheels in the hole. So we got to come back after lunch and finish up. That was no big thing to me, as I was done with my work, so I lingered and talked with some guys I hadn't seen in awhile.
Took the Corvair to have the top looked at. I thought it would top 2K but it was 1295 with pads and well. The guy was impressed with the car and said if his son didn't want to do it he'd do it. This place put a top on my other Corvair and also did the headliner and visors in the High Saturn. Very good work he's been around forever.
Sunny out and hot. Supposed to cool off a little this week and I think rain again this weekend. Probably get rain from the hurricane. After the guy looked at the car I put the top down for the short ride back to the shop. I hadn't ridden with the top down in years. Sure was nice.
Time to wind things up. Shocker hope you stick around we have a good time. Have a good night everyone.

Feels like fall but I predict a heat wave in September
Mike, How about sum Corvair pics
Headed to NAPA, The Cheby 2500 4 X 4 was born with a tail light problem. I've replaced the bulbs and sockets so may times the locking clip on the wiring harness plug is worn out. Tried to rig it and it werks perfectly til the 1st pot hole, Might as well do it right

Why do I constantly see either a GM or a Chevrolet truck with either one or the other front parking/signal lamp illuminated. I swear 50% of these trucks have a parking/signal lamp which isn't illuminated. What's up w/ that? They make a special switch in these trucks you can turn one side ON and the other side OFF! LMAO
Norm, the bad part about that, is it's on new trucks as well as old ones. I have seen many of the new GM trucks driving at night with only one side lit up with the LED's. The cortisone shots seem to be working fairly well, haven't taken any otc pain killers since tuesday, and only once, in a lower dose. A little sore this a.m., but definitely an improvement.

Cause it a POS design, So, I carry my NAPA receipts with my proof of insurance Just in case get pulled over
"Officer, I swear, I'm trying my dead level best to fix the Mother"
It varies
Driver no problem
3 wood mostly good sometime flub
Fairway wood Ok [occasionally pull]
Don't play long irons
Short irons OK [unless I shank]
Chip Ok
Putt OK
My biggest problem is inconsistency
Weakness is between my ears

Hi everyone.
Jamesbo you'd be sure to have the only cemetery with a golf course. Plots on the green would command a premium.
Norm I always see trucks with one DRL not working. My truck doesn't have either working, which leads me to believe that at one time one was out and one was on, thus annoying you when you saw it.
Hey take a look at this car and tell me how hard it would be to fix it. More to the point, how hard would it be for someone who isn't me to fix it. This is the model I've been looking for forever, but I'm not sure it's a feasible project. The fender is jammed back into the door. Guy didn't say if the steering was affected, Rest of the car is pretty clean, he wants 3600 for it, it's in NW Indiana.

Ah, one more day. Think I'll get the pickup on the way home from the chiro today and start getting it ready for this weekend. The plan is to leave for Mom's after work tomorrow, we'll see how it goes. Work was a little trying today. There's the usual group of clowns who try to mess with the people who don't conform to their movement. It used to bother me but anymore, eh, I try to ignore them. I might have to visit the lead and get out one of my favorite lines, "as a professional, I xxxxxxxx."
Beautiful out. Gonna finish my root beer and peanut butter and see what I can get into for the next little bit.

Mike, I've got a hydrolic body puller if ya need it. Only time I ever used it was to push a deck back against my guest house. [used a tree as a base]
You guys. "If you're waiting on me you're backing up.
I actually approached my club about using extra land for a green cemetery. No one got up and applauded.
Norm, How much do you think Augusta National could charge to let someone be buried in their wood [or their ashes scattered for that matter]
Not that they need the money but they would have people lined up for the "privilege"

Mike, That fender is hatched, but there are still lots out there. A 49 Chevy still isn't rare. The valence is the same from 49 to 51. The grille is 49 only, and that might be tough. The frame still looks like it's straight,. and that's a big deal if it is. Those things had "centre-point" steering, so the frame into the cross-member had better still be straight otherwise it'll dog-track forever. The steering in those things was pretty basic, but if the kingpins are hammered out it has a habit of developing a shimmy that will only go away with a sharp pull to the left. The nice thing with the 49 stuff is that it was better made than the subsequent years. So; allow me to ask the question; - why do you like 49 Chevs? They're comfortable to sit in, sure, but they're a handful to drive and slower than the second coming. I taught my wife how to drive a standard on one, and after we got our 46 Buick she made me swear never to get another Chevy again.
Dan, good to hear the shots are working, I may need to go that route yet.
Jamesbo, I guess in your line of work you have to solicit business outside of your workplace; - the one advantage is the customers never complain about the cold.

Hi everyone.
Good day at work. I tied my personal best of wheels being signed off in a day. Forty-two. We finished up pretty early and left around noon. Just got in from the Awful house.
I think I have enough time to get everything together and head off to Mom's. I gain an hour so that helps. It's beautiful here. Not a cloud in the sky. Cool temps. No rain. We'll make up for the rain next week.
A cemetery owner must be connected with the mob; they are always dealing in the underground. (lame)
Marc I'm not necessarily a big fan of the 49 Chevy, I want to recreate the first police car the town had where I grew up. I was there a little later than that, ,though. I have a picture of it in a book, I'll see if I can find a picture of it somewhere.
Jamesbo you have all the good tools. I'll just ask you first if I need something.
Okay gonna get things ready and hit the road. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Didn't I say I was leaving town? I thought I had posted about this car in the past, sure enough I had. Marc maybe since you had one you can tell me a little more about this particular car. Back in the day, Park Forest didn't have radios in the police car(s). There were call boxes through the village and when the blue light on the call box lit up, the patrolman would use the phone inside to call the station and the dispatcher would tell them what was going on, where they were needed, etc.
Now about the car in question I want to go look at, it was for sale about a month ago and I talked with the guy. He said he has "most" of the parts to put it back together. He didn't elaborate other than saying he did have a fender. I'd be in about 4K by the time I drove up there and retrieved it. Eh, it's only money.

Funny that the Park Forest police used a 2 door coupe as a squad car. And, it looks like it was the base model one at that, a cheap "Businessman's Coupe", otherwise known as the "Styleline Special Business Coupe". That car is completely devoid of trim, has rubber fender guards instead of chrome, has the 3 spoke steering wheel and no radio or cigarette lighter. It also has one sun visor and rubber mats on the floor. The interior is available in one shade of brown. Door panels and seats are in tan broadcloth. The instrument panel is also trimless, and the ***** are cream-coloured bakelite plastic. Power is supplied by the 216 cu. in "Stovebolt" 6 rated at a whopping 90 hp. The redline on that engine is 3300 rpm. It has a splash lubrication system, meaning you wait till the oil pressure drops before you drive it. It also has a fatal flaw; for some reason the 49 models seem to have all blown out the #5 piston at around 50,000 miles; - mine did too, it split right above the wrist-pin. It has cast iron pistons too. Driveline on that thing is a torque tube drive with a 4.11 ratio, meaning it tops out at 65 miles an hour. These were the cars they used to set the speed limits, if the sign says 45, you do 45 otherwise it'll roll. They are terribly slow, they handle poorly, and they don't stop worth a tinker's cuss. I drove a fairly nice one back 30 years ago. It was my daily driver for 2 years. One nice thing about the car is that as long as it is in perfect tune it'll always start. They were built like a Swiss watch, solid and well put together, but using cheap materials. All the screws in that thing are slotted, and made from really cheap steel. New for 49 was the telescopic shocks, the built-in heater, bigger brakes and easier shifting. Supposedly there were 20 new mechanical improvements over the previous model, if that was the case I would have hated to drive the 48 model.
Doris Day said "See the USA in your Chevrolet" and she was flogging these miserable things. One thing was rest assured; you would have plenty of time to see the USA because it would take you forever to get anywhere in one of these.
The 6 cylinder Olds is faster and better than one of these things. The straight-8s were a dream compared to this.

Marc, great info on the 49 Chevy, it sounds like actually a miserable car, but it looks good.
Can't believe it's Labor Day weekend and the end of August, my how time flies! I hope September is still a nice warm month as I think we earned it with the lousy, cold, wet spring we had....
It's been 2 1/2 weeks since I broke my collar bone so I'm still taking it easy. Went to my family doctor and they took a x ray and I saw it. Healing nicely but Doc says needs 6 weeks to really heal. That will put me at the 1st of October. I think I will try changing the oil on our 10 Impala, I haven't taken a car to someone for a oil change ever and I hate to start. I always want to find possible problems before they become a big problem. I've always had old cars. Well I think I'll try it. Shoulder doesn't hurt at all if supported and if unsupported for a while it feels like a toothache in my shoulder, but then I can rest it and will feel fine again in 5 minutes or so. The sling they gave me is terrible, can't wear it makes it ache like crazy.
Kids and grandkids are up and we had a campfire last night. Sat around it and the kids told stories and guessing games- great times!!

Hi everyone.
Long trip to Mom's. Aside from getting on the road right at rush hour, it was heavy traffic the entire trip. I guess everyone is headed to Florida for the long weekend. Luckily I'll be going home Monday and I can drive with all these people again. Got here about 1030. Tiger seemed rested, I was beat.
Marc thanks for the 49 Chevy lesson. It does indeed sound like a miserable car, but maybe most cars were like that back then and nobody noticed. The car I'm looking at is a Deluxe so all that trim would have to come off. One thing that puzzles me, there were two coupes in 49-50. A big quarter window and a small quarter window. Why two different cars? The police car seems to have the big quarter window. Maybe they didn't plan on taking many prisoners and the two door was cheeper. Nineteen Forty Nine was the year the village started up, so they were probably pinching pennies to get things going.
Greg don't overdo it with the oil change. Maybe have all the grand kids do the work and you supervise. It will be a good lesson and maybe get them interested in cars. One thing is for sure it would be interesting.
Jamesbo I'm gonna need a jack hammer. You got one of them laying around?
No luck on the storage shed today. That's the main thing I wanted to get going this weekend. They are either prohibitively expensive or big pieces of $hit. I may have to order one online and then bring it down with me another time. Ug.
Okay gonna paint some doors. It's beautiful out here and not quite as hot as I would have thought. Mom is making pepper steak for dinner. OMG that is going to be wonderful. Have a good afternoon everyone.
