The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Glenn, Thanks. I'm not sure there is an age threshold on riding motorcycles. A friend of mine has made two trips (BMW) from here to Alaska & back in the past x5 years - he's 75 years of age. Ice cream good.
Oh no, not again...

Greg, Glenn, Thanks for the words of support; - being the only non-Olds owner around here, I appreciate you letting me stick around.
Mike, I'm still searching for the elusive Starfire; - but I probably will have to sell off one of my convertibles to get a half decent one, I haven't got the liquidity to go after a US$20,000 toy right now. If I let one go it would probably be the Wildcat, I'm more attached to the Electra right now.
I think the shopping list will be 62 Starfire as first choice, and 1960 Olds 98 coupe next. I had a 1960 Super 88 sedan that was a great car, and I love those dashboards from that era. I might be talked into a 64 Starfire too, I had a 64 Dynamic 88 that was a sweet car, I taught my wife to build engines on it. It came from a local wrecker and cost me all of $300 back in 1990; - it had a solid body, fantastic mint interior, no options except a radio, and a baked motor. Learned a lot about TV rods and setting up Slim-Jims on that thing; once it was running right though, it was a really good car. As for a 62 Starfire, I just haven't come across one that either is too expensive or has something majorly wrong with it, or it doesn't have the right options. I'd like a fully loaded coupe, not a convertible. I'll happily give someone a convertible for a nice Starfire. But there is nothing available locally, and since I've never imported a car from the US before, I wouldn't know the first thing about how to do it.
Allan, nice story; amazing who you can meet on line and how they end up influencing lives and such. I see that as the main purpose of this thread, we all lead different lives, have a common interest and are willing to learn and appreciate new things that others are doing.
I still have to make the phone call out to the current owner of my "buddy's" acreage and get rid of that 53 carcass. The big issue is I don't currently own a truck, so in order to rescue my stuff I'd have to borrow one or rent one. My "buddy" did have one, and he actually brought it out the weeks he was here. Can't honestly say I'm too pleased with the situation, didn't want to do it just yet, and well, if I don't make the call, what do I loose? Not much in the scheme of things. I will lose an engine crane and a couple of engine stands, I don't have room to store them anyhow. The crane is 20 years old too, I haven't seen it in close to 10 years anyway. So I could just ignore the whole thing and say the hell with it, to tell the truth, I'm kinda leaning that way, but it would be a crappy thing to do to the new owner, who really has no part in all of this and graciously stored it all free of charge for the winter. But...there's no bill of sale, nothing; technically I don't own a thing.
Just another unpleasant task that this idiot "friend" stiffed me with. Lesson learned.
Washed all the salt and road grime off the Electra after yesterday's trip. At least it won't start to rust, I hope. Other than that, pretty lazy day, not much on the go. I'll look over a couple of clocks, but otherwise, nothing.
Just dug up my 1976 Ford Truck sales brochure...interesting reading.
Have a great evening!

Morning all,
Intermittent rain and the temps are starting to fall over night, got down to 11 degrees last night.
I hit my left index finger once with a grinder many years ago, no guard also. Ran the grinder up the top of my finger from nail to first joint. took weeks to heal since it was a 3mm blade and just scooped out all the flesh and left a nice groove. A band aid was all I put on it
That's a nice ride, both truck and motorbike
. I'm lucky, For one of my birthdays Tink had saved up and given me the money to go and get my motorbike license with strict instructions not to spend it on bills so I did. I currently don't have one but my next bike I would like to have a cruiser.
Night shift tonight but first I should go have some breakfast.
Take care everyone,
Adrian

I'm not really the bike type but I did have a 99 Fatboy that I bought new. I've probably mentioned it before. Enjoyed riding with friends but was never really a good rider. After I stopped seeing my friends I stopped riding the bike, and sold it. Haven't really missed it. I liked telling people I owned a Harley, but that wasn't worth the payment I was making each month for it to be collecting dust.
Marc did you clean under the car as well? You don't want to be the Flintstones. The 60 Ninety Eight was the Indy Pace Car that year. White with a blue top and interior.
Found out there's overtime in the morning so I'm gonna hit the sack and hope to get to sleep. Last week I remember I didn't sleep too well, which meant I was a zombie all day, and I slept all afternoon Monday and didn't go to Summit. Well I don't want that again.
Have a good night everyone.

Hello gentlemen, what I miss??
Well first thing that showed up the the sweet donkey in the for Truck!!! Thanks Norm!!!
The the Indian, well my chin dropped. That is 1 sweet ride!!!!
Allan and Glen, glass is cheap. Just the bloody frames are where the expense is!! An FYI, about 35 to 40 percent mark up on windows. Some times even more.
Mike, that is exactly what I did. Had 5 inch blades from work, just had to use them on my 4 inch while I have a 5 inch grinder. Was in the hospital for 5 hours waiting, errrrr.
Marc, was a beautiful 63 bronze convertible Starfire for sale last summer in Edmonton, didn't last long. I have it in for the Starfire's as well, love them.
Mike, some of us aren't meant to be on 2 wheels!!!!
Seems like Alberta blows and Manitoba sucks!!!!! We are having crap weather all around us, except here where I am, thank god.
Finger is better, 3 stitches. Keep banging the bloody finger, very irritating when that happens.
Managed to almost finish my foundry, just need to weld the hinge on and start melting aluminum and copper!!!!!
Got mama bear to organize her seasonal stuff from my shed up stairs, told her we having a yard sale today. So that was my day today, and will tomorrow again. Amazing how much crap we collect, need to make room for my Olds parts!!! lol
Any ways, have a great PM boys

Good morning everyone,
Grilled chicken breasts for dinner last night - they were deee lishus. I'm liking my new grill cover too. I looked on line (amazon et al) and all that was there were the traditional cheap Vic Tang crap covers. I know they're crap because I got sucked into buying one a few years back. They shipped the wrong size too - for a gigantic grill and when I told them I wanted it returned or my money back they said I should give it to someone with a larger grill. Never heard from them again so in my books they suck (worse than Manitoba). I found one on the Costco website and it was plugged as a heavy duty cover and water repellent. Hey, why not? Costco has a great return policy. When it arrived it was exactly as advertised and was substantially heavy duty. So far I'm liking this thing a lot.
Kyle - good to know about the glass stuff. That would explain why my Polar quote knocked off 45% from MLP. They're still making money even with that and that includes the frames and installation. The final measure (Dan) said they'd take off the exterior siding to access the nailing fins and then reinstall it when done. They're also including new interior casing (2 1/4") PVC. I opted for wood jamb extensions instead of PVC. It seemed like a better decision as I plan to mount the window coverings onto the upper jambs. Hope your finger doesn't bother you too much. Yeah, I should have a garage sale or swap meet at the Olds show this year and clear out some accumulated parts. Lots of NOS, NORS and hard to get OEM stuff stored away in the shed. Some stuff like dash pads and intermediate dashes are almost hard to even give away though.
Jim - I guess you won't be whackin whitey today if yer still up norte. Hope your buddy does well at the Dr this mawnin. Hmmm, I wooda given ya a 44/42 today. Mebbe anutter time.
Adrian - Nice to have those lower temps instead of the scorchers isn't it? How much longer is your course?
I guess I should whomp up some sow belly and cackleberries and toast. Looks like a decent day shaping up.

Morning gentlemen,
Allan, lol on the Manitoba. Hey, and costco is awesome!!!!! I know when I go, I have to set my mind on the items I only need, other wise can drop 500 to 800 dollars there easly.
The MLP is way out to lunch. When I was selling windows, I take the MLP number and times by .27 and that was my cost. So if you really want to know what they are making, take all the MLP and times by .27 that is their cost for the windows.
Kinda sucks they dont have renovation brick mold, so much easier and cleaner looking. If ever and issue with the PVC, it's a pop and plug the window back in. You have vinyl siding? The only issue with wood, need to refinish the jambs every few years. But they do look good.
Another yard sale today. Oh the Joy's!!!
Have a great 1 boys

Kyle, they originally did present the quote with brick mold. But, since I have a 2x6 ledger board they'd have to remove and notch to fit the brick mold they suggested the alternative. What they said originally is they'd cut around the window (siding) so the brick mold would fit nicely. I guess that would also involve removing the old window nailing fin as it's not that huge. With the change they are doing the house will present exactly the same as when it was built, just that it will now have triple pane, 2 Low E and Argon/Krypton gas fill. Those gasses are spoda be guaranteed for life so if they fail it's a free fix.
Yes I have vinyl siding. With them having to remove and reinstall that on the window installation I think they bought into more labor than they expected? Might have been easier for them to do the brick mold and be done? I don't have any issue with the painting on the wooden jambs. The windows we have now (All Weather Windows) have wood jamb extensions. I've never had to repaint them in 20 years; they look great. Oh, I lied. I had to repaint one of them where our cat used to leave claw marks when she jumped up there. But it was all very minor stuff. Cool info on the pricing. According to that, their cost for the windows would be $2835 including labor to install. That's just insane profit margins as we're paying 2x that. Not bad if you have stock in Ray-O-Max.
Hahaha, I just got a phone call from one of the estimates to level the concrete. Good of them to follow up but I had already decided on another company that was doing the same process but $35 less, which I had mentioned to them in an email reply to their quote. Doesn't sound like much but why spend more for exactly the same thing? Anywho Vincent said they'd be willing to match the price if we gave them the job. I shoulda said 'you'd have to beat the price' but I'm still under the influence of my morning meds...
Good chat though and I told him I'd keep that in mind because I don't plan to do the work till Aug/Sept. Interesting how much value can come out of spending $7.00 to enter the local Home and Garden Show.
Yay Costco. I agree with you 100%. Recently I bought new rubber for the daily whip from them and that also netted me a $70 Costco gift card. That's a short blink for items in the cart. The only thing I don't like about the marketing there is that while everything is relatively less costly, I don't want to buy the large volumes they come in. I guess that's ok for a large growing family or business but the average consumer likely ends up throwing a lot away unless they have a chest freezer or are always entertaining. It can get expensive and even with the Executive membership we will never spend enough to recoup the membership cost. It will however reduce the cost of the membership to less than what we would pay for an annual regular membership. When our son moves out I expect we'll re-evaluate our needs for big box shopping.
Enjoy your yard sale. Kinda weird that you'd be doing that on a Monday though. You expect much traffic?

Yes with the brick mold, no need to remove siding.
Which have a chance on breaking if older, same as J channels. Then try to match the color is almost impossible unless its white.
Good on triple pane, low e and argon, helps alot. We all know heating costs will never go down.
The company I sold windows for, was lifetime on glass too but is prorated after 5 years. Then it's like paying a deductible.
Polar is a superior window compared to All Weather, we installed All Weather in Hinton at the hospital almost 20 years ago, they were junk.
You will be very impressed with Polar, the nice thing is the voids in the PVC are spray foamed for insulation factor, not using air as an insulation factor like other companies.
Jacking concrete with foam?
Costco is great for us, 17 and 13 year old. Kelvin eats like a horse. Lol Love the meat selection there, cannot beat it
Started yesterday with the sale, a bit weird on a Monday but still some left over so figure open again today. Since not working out west yet cause of breakup, figure a great time to make room for car parts. Lol

Yeah, I was surprised too about using the foam, but apparently it's more stable than mud jacking. It's a 2 part expanding foam much like what's used in insulation. Only thing is there's nothing to deteriorate it since it's out of the elements. It has a 3 year guarantee against any type of settling. The soil under the sidewalk has had 20 years to settle so I think I'm pretty safe on that account.
here's a link if you're curious about it.

Yes, that is the same system as insulating wall cavities, just a denser foam. Open cell and closed cell foam. Open cell using less product which has a less R value, kinda like bread. Closed cell is alot better for insulation or for jacking, alot stronger. As long the foam isn't exposed to the sun, will last a very long time. And water wont penetrate it. If exposed to the sun, need to paint it.
Hi everyone.
Calm day at work. Strange how having the management there will keep the bozo's in line. One of the robots broke towards the end of the day so we finished up short. I found a fairly large discrepancy this afternoon as well. Most of the rims say WARNING Deflate tire before removing bolts. You'd think that would be common sense but you'd be wrong. The only wheel that says the warning has to line up with the valve stem is the MD90. This one this afternoon the warning was 180 out. Most people would let that go, because really, there is absolutely nothing going to happen if it doesn't line up, but it does say it in the Maintenance Manual. Also, we found out a guy(one of the aforementioned bozo's) let a wheel go out that had the wheel halves misaligned, and someone saw it and big dealed it and the plane took a delay. So for sure that 90 tire was going back.
I need new windows in my house. The big ones in the back have lost their seal and the ones in the front are just ugly. None are getting done any time soon.
Summit tonight. Gonna be a beautiful evening. And I'm not fall down tired so I get to go! Got a couple things to do before I leave, but I have a good couple hours.

Zero Oldsmobiles at Summit tonight. Almost surprising since there were three the last time I was there. However there were three 57 Fords. I like them. A couple 57 Chev's, a bunch of Mustangs and Corvettes, and a Beetle perched atop a Blazer chassis that looked like something Mad Max's girlfriend would drive.
Glenn there's a car in Waxahachie (sp?) that I'd like to get more info on. Some time I might fly down to see it and then we could go for a beer. Waiting for the guy to get back with me.
Going in early tomorrow. So it's off to bed for me. Hope everyone has a good evening. The pressure is off. Monday is over.

Mike, Waxahachie is only about 40 miles from me. It is south of Dallas. We are actually having our monthly NTOC meeting there later this month. We have a long time member who lives there and has some pretty neat cars. If you are coming let me know and I will pick you up at the airport and we will go to Waxahachie. Would not me a problem. What kind of car. My friend down there may know the seller and the car.

About to head off for my last night shift. Temps got down to 12 last night Allan so you would call that hot at the moment lol.
Mid April is the time limit I have to finish the studies. Getting into it so hopefully I can finish it in time or I'll have to pay for another course and just get credits for the study I have completed.
I know where Waxahachie is Mike, James Hardie has a manufacturing plant there. The other one in Texas is in Cleburne.
Is the weather improving for your weekly walk chasing whitey Jim?
Queensland had their second Costco open last week. I've been a member for a few years with the first one but that is nearly an hours drive from me. The new one is maybe 15 mins. I'll wait a couple weeks before I go and have a look I think. Too many bogans in that neck of the woods for me to deal with on a weekend
Might go during the week
No time like to present to get moving, take care everybody,
Adrian

Good morning everyone.
Well, the early morning didn't quite work out. Got to bed later than usual, at 10:00 I was almost asleep, and the phone rang. When the alarm went off at 2 I turned it off and went back to sleep. Been dragging all morning.
Thanks Glenn, I might take you up on that. The guy's name is Joe DuFour and it's a white Corvair convertible. I heard back from him but he didn't answer a lot of my questions. It's easy to get down there just have to find a good time.
Adrian I hate to tell you Mid April has passed. Does it ever get cold enough to snow anywhere over there?
Okay break is over. See ya's all later.

Mike, the offer is open ended. Just let me know a couple days ahead if you can and to be sure we are not out of town. I would love to do it.
My wife and I are heading down to Granbury this morning and will be coming back tomorrow. It is our 53rd anniversary and we are staying in a B&B and going out to dinner tonight. Granbury is one of those neat little towns with the courthouse in the middle of the square. It is about 90 miles and good highway for an easy drive. We have been there lots of times and it is kind of our go to place for a quick get away. We went there on our anniversary two years ago and went in the Olds. This time is in the Expedition. It is supposed to rain this afternoon and tomorrow. We really don't need the rain but not anything we can do about it. Have a good day guys.

Glenn hope you two have a nice anniversary. Nothing wrong with riding in something modern once in a while.
I just read there was a sailor who was killed at Pearl Harbor, whose remains have recently been identified, and he was brought home to Talpa, Texas, which is close to Granbury. So says the article. Buried with full military honors. I tell you what, Taps gets me every time, and I've never known anyone who was killed in war.
The chiropractor didn't seem so distressing today. Maybe I'm just getting used to it. I'll bet this woman has a stress-free life. Taking out her frustrations on everyone who comes into the office.
Gonna try again for early in the morning. I might turn the phone down so I don't here any email notices or text messages. Just as long as the alarm is still the same loudness. Don't think we got all the wheels done we were supposed to today, either, but we left at 230 and the lead didn't ask for anyone to stay over.
Okay gonna tidy up a bit then hit the sack. Hope everyone has a good evening.

That's amazing story about the sailor!!!!!!Very nice
Oh you are seeing a female chiro.
Kinda funny story I have,
When I was working in the Edmonton, needed an alignment. Booked an appointment over the phone to see a chiropractor, total shocker when I got there.
She was an x cheerleader from Toronto. After that, if I felt a pinch in my back, I had never had an excuse not to go and get an alignment done!!!
Looking at doing solar on my house.Had 1 guy stop in yesterday and have a look over, and another discussion over the phone with another. So time to bite the bullet and do it.
Power rates are't going down, always increase 3.5% a year here. But this year they went for 7%. So will see what numbers they come up with.
Another yard sale today, will see if i can make more than the wife today!! lol
Cheers boys, have a great 1

Good afternoon everyone,
Looks like it's been busy here! Golf, golf, more golf and then the human interest stories like the sailor and Glenn.
Kyle - I don't know how you could do a yard sale that many days in a row. Is it like a dutch auction?
Glenn - Happy belated Anniversary to you and the Missus. Granbury? I've flown over it a few times but never noticed it from 32000 ft. One of the mods here (Eric Langer) used to live there but recently relocated to Okie.
Adrian - Those are decent temps mate, but tell ya what. It's spoda head north of 20 here right quick so I'll have a chance to see how that new attic insulation works. Good luck with the studies. I'm guessing you meant they would be finished in April of 2020?
Jim - ya failed math didn cha?
Out to work on one of the cars right away. Such a nice day - sunny and 16 already. If I was a golfer, I'd probably take the day off and go for a cruise instead.

Allan, in the game of golf when a golfer says to another golfer (competitor) I'll give you four strokes, it means whatever is the total score the other golfer shot for the round (in Jim's case he shot a total of 90 strokes) - it means he (the other golfer) gets to REDUCE his total score by the number of strokes he was given by his competitor. If I give Jim four strokes, he gets to reduce whatever his total score is by four strokes. Sometimes seems odd the way it is described (I'll give you four strokes) - but, it simply means he gets to reduce his total strokes (score) by four strokes.
Afternoon boys,
Allan, yes it's getting old. But in stead of tossing it, sell and make some money. What ever dont sell after this weekend, it's going. Been drinking lots of coffee and smoking my pipe to pass the time.
Stuff is moving, then I walk around the house or my shed and find something else to sell.
Found my old bird feeder I made in grade 7. So sanded that down and painting it, same as an old bird house that was given to me 30 plus years ago.
Been listening to 100.3 bear. Have a contest, what's that sound. It's up to 27,000, trying that too. Lol
Golf, tried once and sucked at it.

Hi everyone.
If you give me four strokes I'd decline. That's what we'd call someone who was a pain in the ****. I golfed a couple times. I had my Dad's clubs, which were more of a novelty, they were left handed clubs. I'd always get every bit of the first couple *****, then would just slice or just do poorly. Eh, not for me.
Day three of falling short at work. I heard the main clown tell his minions to drag their feet to make sure we don't make it. It made me mad, so I told the lead. I said, call it tattling if you want, but it makes the whole shop look bad and I don't like looking bad at work. Just then one of the minions walked up so I said have a good one and left. Honestly, this isn't a job where people are dropping like flies, what's the big deal.
Kyle I've heard from "experts" you shouldn't do solar, because it takes so long to pay you back you'll probably move before it does and it won't be worth it. This probably came from a natural gas vendor. I myself would like to try wind. We don't have a lot of it around here but when when we do... I could chain a bicycle to it and when there isn't any wind I could pedal and get the generator to turn.
Think I'll put my hole digger together and test it out. I want to take it to my Mom's this weekend. I just realized the water line for the house runs right where I want to put a fence post. Glad I thought of that now. They say experience is what you needed 10 minutes earlier.

Ok, new rotors and ceramic pads on the Saturn after doing a tire swap too. The old rotors and pads weren't that badly worn but they were getting brake dust all over the place and I hate that. Those pads fought me all the way trying to get them in, even with clean hardware and caliper grease. The slides needed some lube too and they just seemed to have a mind of their own wanting to avoid going into the boots. Of course then it decides it wants to rain.....I'm getting too old to be doing all this manual labor. But on the other hand, I can't really afford to pay $350 for something that only costs me $45.00 by doing it myself. Next will be the Sonata. Gotta do front brakes there, and rear stabilizer links. All the calcium chloride this past 2 years isn't being friendly to the undercarriage of the cars either.
Norm, I know what giving strokes is; I've golfed before and I lost interest after finding out how good at it I am. I just didn't know what Jim meant by you being one up on him. It confuses me when he got 86 (with 4 strokes given) and you got 82. In my books that still 4, not one. Unless you guys are playing for a Mercedes it doesn't matter to me.
Kyle - You get a gov't rebate for going solar? If you do it right you can also sell power back to the energy regulator like they do in Ontario and Quebec. Lots of new houses here are built with solar as part of the contract; it's not an option. I wonder why the builders are forcing that onto home buyers. if you're on an acreage I can see where you could explore solar and wind depending on the prevailing winds there.

I have the most unbelievable frick'n GUNK on my wheels. The wheels were shiny when I purchased. I've washed them a couple times - they look nice. I've always though whatever that stuff is will just require additional detailing/cleaning. Now, I'm detailing them. They're 15" with the bolt-on center caps. I believe they're called SSIII? Pretty sure the build stock wheels were 14", but I don't know what style they were when car was built & I suppose it doesn't matter since they're SSIII 15" now. The GUNK appears to be GLUE. It isn't all over each wheel but it covers a large portion of each wheel. The GUNK cannot be removed w/ gasoline, WD40, turpentine, or xylene. The ONLY solvent which works & takes a significant amount of time and serious elbow grease is acetone; and, I mean to tell you it's taking forever to clean them up. Once they're cleaned up the shine is absolutely out of this world fantastic - seriously high quality reflective shine. I am extremely happy w/ the shine - unbelievable.
Anyone have an idea as to the material of this GLUE? It's almost like the type of clear plastic covering you'd removed from the screen of an HDMI TV/Monitor, or other types of plastic coverings or glass coverings to protect from getting scratched - but, significantly thicker and this stuff is like embedded on the wheels it's so hard to get off.
I'm pretty sure the substance is of the acrylamide (soft plastic) class of solvent compounds such as Methyl methacrylate (MMA) which has Methacrylic acid as a precursor. I'm baffled as to how & why this material is on the wheels.
Do you think it was put on the wheels to preserve them? Do think there's a possibility one of the glues they use to mount tires onto wheels and to seal tire beads to wheels was just sloppily brushed onto the wheels when they mounted the tires without regard for cleaning the wheels and just being plain sloppy?
I might try a test area w/ some hydrochloric acid and see if it works a little faster than acetone. Seriously, the stuff is bonded so tight to the wheels, I have now jacked the rear-end and removed the wheels to clean them. Argh.
