I'm back

We got sum late afternoon thunder boomers and a little well needed rain. I actually had some lirope [a.k.a monkey grass] that was dying from lack of rain. Years ago, I go sum from my dad's house and left it in a cardboard box for months and it didn't die.

Because they were having a tournament at my golf course, I had to play somewhere else yesterday. The place didn't have any yardage markers so I never knew how fer I was from the pin. I guess I need to invest in one of those satellite thingys' But I hate too much technology.

Welp, GTg

Have a great day Olds friends and Mike don't ferget

Hi everyone.

Got home later than I had hoped. The lead was someone I worked with in another department and he was kind of a slickboy. Never around when the big stuff was going on, always wanting to leave early. Now that he's ascended to lead he bird dogs everyone and doesn't want anyone to go home early. Funny. No not really.

From what I could figure the power was out for about 2 1/2 hours last night. The dogs seemed none the worse for wear and I had fiddled with the Tstat and it was 71* in the house. That's a tad cold for my liking. Storm was done by the time I left, and it's sunny out now. Not sure if the rain is coming back today, it's supposed to.

So, what I was going to ask, before I was interrupted with earning my paycheck, the Cadillac has a sort of hum/slight vibration in the left front wheel. All new brakes and bearings in the front, in fact a slight grinding noise is what prompted all the work. I only notice it at highway speed, and it doesn't always do it. This is very perplexing. I wondered if it might be the tire. Is it still the rule that you don't change rotation of a radial? I thought I'd swap sides and see if the noise followed. Tires are 6 years old not sure of the mileage. Ideas anyone?

Time to get moving. I need to get my neighbor's extension ladder and wash the back windows. He's coming home next week so it needs to be done this week. He said I could use it any time I wanted, but if he knows I used it he'll ask me twenty times if it worked good. His way of bringing up that he did something for me. I've used it a couple times so I really should go get my own, but they're like 200 bucks. Sheesh.

Okay have a good day everyone.

Swap the tires and see if it changes. I swap directions as a rule on rotations.

Kwik g'day to all... Boat trip Sunday was a blast. We were 9 hrs. on the water, due mostly to shower-dodging. But a good time was had by all...
Glad you had a good vacation, Darrell. That's quite a drive... better you than me! My record is 900 mi (N.O. to Indy). GTG now. Y'all stay cool & dry.

Mike, what Clint says, plus only if they are unidirectional do you not swap sides, those type of tires will have an arrow on the sidewall to indicate the direction of rotation.

Mornin all.

Trying to cool the house off now. Got the attic fan on and see if I can get it down to about 65 before I leave. It was about 73 in here when I woke at 3:15.

The missus is gimping around on a bum knee. She's gonna let the doc look at it tomorrow.

Not much exciting going on.

Have a Humpday.

Good morning everyone.

Thanks you guys for the advice. It will be a hard idea to get past, but if swapping side to side is what I should do, then that's what I'll do. I still change oil in a new car after 500 miles. I can't get past it. It used to be if you ran a radial in a different direction than what it was used to, it would come apart.

Nothing new here, either. Gonna go up to work and put the new fan belt on the blue van. Hopefully I have the right belt this time. My coworkers think it's somewhat of a joke. In a lot full of small black and grey cars here's this big blue square towering above everything else. It sort of sticks out.

But first, Awful house. Here I go. Have a good day everyone.

Mornin all.

Dan, We use figure "A" for all vehicles. that way they always hit each corner of the car and we don't have to think about which pattern to use., "B" really makes no logical sense to me. Each tire is only hitting 2 positions on the vehicle.

More fireworks last night. Who knew it was independence month? the terrified dog goes under the knife tomorrow to get his toe removed.

Did some carb work on a 72 CS vert yesterday. Really pretty car. Interesting to see some of the shenanigans that the factory rebuild guys pull. This one had a damaged carb body where the float pin rests. Someone made up an elaborate piece of shim stock to hold the pin in place. Kind of.

Mike hope the belt delivers.

Jamesbo, Thanks.

Have a Thursday all.

Mike, Jes curious. Do you have sum kinda schedule as to which car to werk on which day. or do the dogs decide by lifting a leg?

Good morning everyone.

Got the belt changed on the van yesterday. I like my big vans but they suck to do engine work on. I'll take some water with me to work tomorrow night and fill it up, then drive it home Saturday morning.

Jamesbo I actually do have a schedule that I (try to) follow to work on the cars. They all need something so I get parts a few days ahead of when I'm supposed to work on them, and I also keep track of what I've done. I like lists, I have lists for everything, so it's easy to remember and to look forward.

Dan it used to be you rotated 5 tires. The spare was part of it. Right front went to spare, spare went to left rear. When I have my tires rotated at Discount tire, they just do front to back.

John was that 900 miles all at once, or the entire trip? I've driven from here, and from Chicago, to California and back several times, and I can't count the trips I've made between Chicago and here, and to Florida. And a few to the northeast.

Gonna mow at the shop today. Yesterday I got a car up on the trailer and took it to the shop at midnight. I figure if the neighbors see me driving in with cars on trailers all day they'll think something funny. After I mow I'll get another one on the trailer and take it tonight.

So. Time to do something. Have a good Thursday everyone.

Mernin', all...

Hope the tootsie operation goes well for the pup, Clint. Sounds a bit traumatic.

Jamesbo, didn't know the cemetery needed a turn, but I sincerely hope it does great in the future.

Mike, that was 900 miles in a day -- my record. In '77 a group of friends and I rode out to Clint's habitat nonstop, but we rotated drivers. That was well over 2k miles just stopping for gas. That was insane. (We were in my '73 Delta Royale, so at least we had a little room for dozing.)

Looks like more wet stuff for today. We've been getting soaked pretty good, and I attribute it to my getting a load of dirt delivered here on Wednesday.

Y'all have a great one, Olds buddies.

The garden [sept de maters I watered every day] is a goner.

John, De cemetery dodge takes a while to get going. This is our 7th year and people seem to like the "Green" idea more every day. We have about 200 permanent residents

"Good" evening. 3rd time im writing this, 2 times Windows 10 decided to erase all my text. Love it.

God im tired. 2 nights behind. This weekend is that BIG car-show, but im too tired to go there. I just need to sleep and relax, since more nights-shifts at next week. Bad luck with work-shifts. But i wont complain, its €€€€€€€.

Anyways. Received my wheels at last. Ive now used Schenker two times to deliver my goods; first and last. Doing customs-checking By yourself was hell of a time, Schenker did all they can to make self custom-checking items as hard as possible, you had to look various needed informations from many places to build the puzzle for customs. Of course, they would have done this for me for just an 110$ fee. I said no way..
Got also tires to my wheels today. Its rainy now, so i wont go fit them, but here they are. They are already worth all the money, they look BEAUTIFUL, just as i imagined.

Thats a rear tire at pic, 250/50/15. Fronts are 215/70/15.

Also received my bulb sockets, and washer pump. I have alot funny things to do at weekend. Not bad.

But, now im off to heat sauna. Then propably going to sleep, i have slept 2,5 hours after thursday 04.30am. And its already 06.10pm friday here..

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi everyone.

Not stifling hot, really nice out. When it gets into the low 70s at night after being close to 100 it feels sort of chilly.

Clint how is the puppy?

John that trip wouldn't have been so bad. I mean, even if that Delta had a small block you'd be stopping a lot for gas. My trips anymore are of the solo type. Sounds like fun a road trip with buddies.

Not much else. I think my work week is going to go fast, because next week I'm headed to Ohio and as usual I'm not even close to being ready. It's tough going on a trip when you don't particularly want to go.

Okay work. It's Monday. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Lookin' good Inline. Dang, I got pulled over on the way home, expired license tab & registration, I thought it was a mistake, as it happened before, and my tabs were current and confirmed after I contacted the DMV about a dozen years ago, so after he gives me the citation, I go home and sure enough "2015" tabs, I'm thinking that someone pulled the sticker off, as I park outside. Well, I went online to my bank, and checked my statements for last Nov./Dec, and I cannot find any withdrawals to the State of MI. I am always prompt on renewing my tabs and registration so I have no idea where my brain was last fall. This won't be cheap. I emailed the State with my pertinent info, asking to check the records and how to proceed to get everything in order...eight months on expired tabs, sheesh!

Gah, no new wheels this weekend. I ordered By mistake RH 1/2 20 nuts.. 7/16 20 on the way. Maybe next weekend? Atleast i gave them good wax.

And got my rear light at last fixed, and installed new washer pump, which works really well. So not totally lost day.

Hi everyone.

Got a little rain today, but the sun was out the whole time. Got a little thunder with it as well, so that meant the puppies were upset. It didn't last long, just long enough.

Jamesbo I'm with you about the tags. I think I get maybe 10 every year. I may get them mixed up now and then, but who is going to notice unless they get down on their knees and actually look.

Speaking of trailers, do you have any idea what rims those are on the as yet Scot-picked-up trailer? I might need to drag it around and it doesn't have a spare.

Dan that's too bad getting pulled over. My van was at work since before my birthday and I hadn't put the sticker on. So driving home this morning I had the sticker in the car with me, so at least I could show it to someone. Of course no one noticed and I put it on this afternoon.

Night two. Last night was busy. Running the whole night, chasing parts, back and forth to the airplanes, the lead calling saying go here go there, I hope tonight is a little easier.

Okay hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Whelpt, forecasters are saying no wet stuff here today, but I'd bet dollars to donuts (about the same value now) we'll at least get a sprinklin'.

Odds of the "powers-that-be" spotting a misplaced tag are pretty slim. The problem lies in having a crash, and somebody looking for reasons to nail you to a cross. They'd throw the miserable book at you. Everything you do behind the wheel (texting, talking, drinking, smoking, etc.) is a liability if you have an accident. That's why I use turn signals like a religion; if I wreck, at least my lawyer can say, "But he had on his turn signal, Your Honor!"

Jamesbo, since I wasn't even 3 y.o. when it happened, I don't remember "the day the music died." Thank goodness one or two good songs have been written since Feb. '59. ;-)

Dan, the trip to St. Joe is getting less & less definite. Gene ain't been doing too good, and his friend, Ken (really, his support system up there) has an important doctor's appointment the day they were scheduled to head down. So they're scrambling to devise a contingency plan. I've made my suggestions (leaving later in the day); but so far, they're not thrilled about the idea. I'm going to fly up & see Gene in any case, since I've already paid for the plane ticket and the rental car; but we may miss out on the Cadillac show, unfortunately.

Whelpt, let me start whittling on my list.

Stay cool & dry, Olds friends.

Hi everyone.

Cloudy. Not sure if rain is coming this way, hope not.

I think this must be the first day ever we slept all day. Got into bed about a quarter after 7 this morning and the dogs didn't come get me until 330. Wow that felt great. Now if we could only do that every day.

John if you want to see a Cadillac I'll bring mine over. Hope Gene gets to feeling better.

Clint how'd the missus' knee ever get?

Night 3. Last night was a nightmare. We have this lead who got demoted from Level 10 manager. He still has the mentality of manager and barks at us and expects us to cater to his every whim. Now, I'm not adversed to hard work, but when I'm in the middle of something and he wants me to go look at something else, and I'm not even to that yet and he's calling and wanting me to look at something else, everything which needs to be done first, that's a little much. It's like this all night long. We're going to have to all get together and find a way to impress upon him that drill sergeant behavior is not acceptable. There's ways.

So anyway, off I go. Hope the week starts out good for everyone. One more after this and I'm off 10. Have a good night everyone.

Mornin all.

The pup is doing ok. he has this huge wrap on his foot, so he's 3 legging it around. He'll be going to the shop all this week.

The missus knee is feeling better, she didn't race this weekend which I commend her on, she has the hardest time not racing if she's at the track and isn't on crutches. She has to go to the specialist next week sometime to get a prognosis/ treatment plan.

Mike, bummer on the new lead.

Dan, The state here charges a $25/month late fee on top of the tag renewal. That was part of the Gov's revamp on registration costs to fix the roads. Well it's created millions in extra revenue, and guess what, we still have the same crappy roads.

Have a day.

Mernin', all....

Had just a little spit of a shower yesterday. Spose to be 'bout the same today, then the dry heat (mid-upper 90s w/ "feels like's" near 110) moves in for rest o'week.

Thanks, Dan. It's just a shame if Gene doesn't get to show that gorgeous '55 of his, but you're right. We shall see. When you have two knees replaced in your late 80s, it's an uphill climb.

Sorry about the tyrannical madman, Mike. Maybe y'all could accidentally on purpose trap him in a water closet?

Whelpt, its off to the races.

Have a great one, Olds buds.

Hi everyone.

Raining pretty good now, and I watched it darken little by little all afternoon. Thunder, too, so it's a good bet the dogs won't want to go outside before work.

The neighbors are home. I'm glad they are here, I missed them. Now I will have weeks worth of phone calls that start with, can you do me a favor... I don't mind. They're awful good to me.

The easiest way for us to make our point at work is to throw out the anchor. The lower management is scared to death of upper management. Every day there is a conference call and the upper management, it all of their wisdom, takes the one-dimensional nonsense they get from the performance reviews as gospel. It only takes a couple high-profile airplanes to not get looked at before the lead gets the message. For example, most of the airplanes have a new interior and we don't have any spare parts. For weeks there will be a daily entry on a particular plane's printout that this is broke, we have no parts, remain deferred. It makes no sense to make that daily entry if we don't yet own the part we need. Yet, if that entry is missing for a day, upper management has a stroke. Why wasn't this looked at? Never mind it's been looked at every day prior and it's the weekend or a holiday and there's no parts secured.

Clint you got a good laugh out of me. Illinois has some of the highest gas taxes, and the roads are terrible. We(I say we) have two seasons, winter and construction. Yet, the roads don't improve. Could that be why two of our past governors are in jail right now?

Jamesbo do you know of anyone who's available? As I quickly approach the mid century mark, with no wife people start looking at me funny.

Okay time for work. It's Friday. This rain is not helping with the getting ready for my trip. I'm taking the Mustang and it needs its oil changed, and I don't want to do that on a wet and muddy driveway.

Have a good night everyone.

Got a little shower yesterday afternoon

So, the city has "Approved" garbage collection services [that I pay for] and now wants each "approved service" to carry a few million dollars in insurance.

So my trusty service says phuque it and I have to hunt up another one that's approved.

After locating one, I get this text message to remind him to come on Monday

Ok I remind him 3 Monday's in a row. Last Monday he carries off one of my not so new garbage cans. So, I get the mesage and go buy 2 new Rubermaid cans.

Yesterday, while I'm playing golf, I get another text message that the dude doesn't like my new cans and he wants me to exchange them for cans of his liking.

So now I'm stuck with and approved texting pre madonna garbage man

Life used to be so much simplier when they just got off a truck with a wash pale lined with cardboard, picked up the garbage and put the pale on their shoulder and left

End of rant

Have a great day Olds friends

Good morning everyone.

Home and in bed by 430 this morning. Now that's a nice Friday. The dogs wanted their breakfast at 7 sharp, so I was up and going. Decided against the Awful house, I had one more bowl full of Cocoa Pebbles I wanted to use up.

Clint that's profound.

Jamesbo where I grew up we only had one trash company. They were contracted with the village and we paid for it on our water bill. All the years I was at home the bill wasn't more than $45 a quarter for trash and water/sewer. And they didn't complain about what our garbage cans looked like.

Need to change oil in the Mustang today. I'm taking that car to Ohio on Thursday, or I'm thinking I am. I just realized I'll have to park in parking lots with other cars next to me, risking door dings for 4 days straight. I may have to rethink this. I would take the Cadillac but the AC isn't charged. And the tires aren't swapped yet. Hm.

Okay have a good Tuesday everyone.

Jamesbo, we have trash cans supplied by the service which is contracted by the city, paid for by a .1% tax that pays for city services, police, fire etc. the cans have wheels and ya roll it out to the curb and they have an lift on the trucks that grab and dump the trash so the operator doesn't have to. Now, if you have extra trash, you buy pink tags to put on your excess trash bags...then they have to manually toss it into the truck, including yard waste (grass clippings, bundled brush etc.) which is manually loaded into a separate truck. I used statins once, and stopped as they made my leg muscles feel weak.

Mernin', all... Forecasters are totally lost these days. Sunday, weather report said "dry as a chip" all week. This is the second day of rain. Grass is getting a tad high... Lord help us.

Mike & Jamesbo, garbage was a different animal when weez wuz kids. I don't think there was a separate charge for it back then; it was covered by the water bill in N.O., and was picked up 3X a week. Even more incredible was that my parents' water bill (municipal water) in the '60s was about $10/mo.

Right now, I recycle everything I possibly can (except glass) and manage to get rid of a 55-gal bag of honest "waste" once a week via various unofficial (but legal and ecological) channels. But at least I don't have to subscribe to a mafia-run garbage service.

Clint, hang in there, hombre! When things get bad, pull out a picture of the smiling JRT

Jamesbo, better half said statins are bad news. You should talk to her and hear all the other things you can do instead of taking them.

Y'all have a great one, Olds pals.

Hi everyone.

Rain. Didn't get the car worked on. I ran some errands this morning and got my hair cut, then sat down to watch some TV at lunch and fell asleep. Wasted the whole afternoon. Went to the Awful house for dinner, and planned on changing oil afterward, then the rain came.

Question. Does anyone know anything about Jeep Commanders? Have they aged well? Is the 4wheel drive system troublesome and expensive? I knew a guy years ago that had one, but I lost track of him and never knew how he did with it.

I was looking at Google images to see what the difference in tail lights was between 71 and 72 Delta 88s, and saw a picture of Pauls blue cutlass. Now, I ordinarily like trim rings on my Cutlass wheels, but his car being sans trim rings makes it look a little sinister. Pretty cool.

Thunder and rain are over, gotta go find the puppies. Have a good evening everyone.
