Throw out a specific date and let's see who else can do it; I can't honestly say I could make it in early May; still have some things going on in LA. Would it be too hot in June? What about all you other folks? Here's your opportunity to suggest not only the date, but the venue....

No John I didn't give her the Rolls. I want to do something -nice- for her, not load her down with a white elephant, as it were. As a matter of fact, I stopped in at the Outback Steakhouse today and got them a card so they can go have a nice dinner some time. My Mom suggested a fruit basket. I find it weird giving people fruit.

So I'm all loaded up with scrap metal and ready to go to the recycler. I hope I get enough to pay for the gas in the pickup to take it over there.

As far as the list of toys, I only have listed four at a time, there are many more. I change them out once in a while.

That's a riot, Alice...

I know you wouldn't have done that, Mike. Just being facetious.

I'd like the Outback dinner a lot more than fruit, myself.... Good decision.

Hasta manana.

Jamesbro, hope you had a great birthday. Did you get anything good on your special day?

We had another beautiful day here, in the upper 40's and sunny. Going to be in the mid and upper 50's this weekend. Same type of weather as we had last year. I like winter, but the warmer weather means my cars don't sit in the garage.

Been doing a total suspension job on my Riv convertible over the past 2 months and hopefully will have it finished soon so I can start driving it.

Good Morning all.

Gonna get colder, Windy today and headed for a deep freeze for the weekend. single digits.

I received my programmer yesterday. I have everything I need to install and get it running again. I have to drill out my header and install an O2 bung. That should be fun. I haven't TIG'ed stainless for a long while.

WB Bry. Watch out for those co-workers. You know what the say, "Man who fishes in other mans well, often catch crabs"

Darrell, I sure wish we had some good enough weather to get Brittney out. Snow has been around since xmas, not a lot, but enough.

Everyone have a Great Friday.

Thanks alot, Jeff! I like you too, lol.....

Morning all!

We have rain this morning, but temps in the mid 40's. It's a great thing! Supposed to be rainy pretty much all day here and clear out by tonight. Still calling for Saturday and Sunday to be warm, but Sunday afternoon the cold front starts to come in and the temps will drop. So I'm expecting ice Monday morning!

Took Tincanio to the Toyota place last evening. Got the inside power window motor greased with the 'special' grease so it doesn't catch on fire inside the door, lol. I didn't need the suspension bar in the rear; mine wasn't part of that recall, lol. I did have to pay $30 for a new 'inside cabin' air filter. Mine was pretty plugged up.

It was funny..... when I got there, there was another silver tin can in front of me, and behind me comes 2 more! I told the lady that's why I put the yellow moon eyes ball on my antenna, lol. They all look the same.....

I stopped by my friend Ron's house on the way home. The guy with the beautiful gold 72 Cutlass S. I wanted to give him the Olds calendar, and since he was on my way home, I just dropped in. Talked to him a while. He had pnuemonia a few weeks ago. I'm glad he's ok now. He's my favorite 'old guy', lol.

I'm glad it's Friday. Been a long week. Wish I got paid today instead of Tuesday. Only have $17 in the bank, lol. I hate this getting paid twice a month.

John.... you guys pick the dates and I'll see if I can do it or not. I just have to work around when one of the other guys is taking a day off.

I might have to take Tincanio back to Defer. When I step on the brakes, it's making like a 'rubbing' sound that wasn't there before, and the pedal goes down far, I think. I was expecting a tight barely moves pedal. I don't know Toyota's.... maybe this is how they do with new brakes? I'd still like to have Mark drive it and tell me if it's natural or not. So I might drive out there tomorrow. I don't know. I'll see what Larry thinks when he hears it tonight when we go shopping.

Well you all have a good day!!

Jamesbo.... That would be May, lol. Usually the spring dust off is the first weekend in May, and looking on my last year's list, they're kind of scattered through out the month. June starts the busy time....

Good morning everyone.

A bit dreary today but no rain so that's good. I don't think it actually rained here yesterday or last night, just was really humid.

The recycler got me $22 for 200 pounds of tin. Not bad, wish I had more. I've got a chipper machine that is rusted solid I would have loved to throw up there, but no one was around to help me. I'll take it next time. Found out my pickup weighs 6200 pounds.

Six inches of snow Jeff? I know not to non-rev to SLC now for awhile.

May would be a good time for me to meet. I don't have anything planned and the weather will be good pretty much everywhere.

Well gotta go do something. Have a great day everyone. I hope my friend Rob calls so we can go get pizza tonight.

Rained pretty hard here last night, and unfortunately a leak! had my roof replaced ten years ago, and had a leak two years ago, from rain running down the chimney into the attic floor, and dripping by a utility closet, sonofagun! They "fixed" it then, I'll tackle it tommorrow, as it is apparent that their work sucks.

What ? LOL . I guess I meant that I liked her , but was worried about entering that field again after what I went through with my wife . She's real nice , and always talks to me on break . It turns out she is married though , but she didn't seem to be happy about it . That's where the " run " part came into play .... Don't worry , my wife doesn't come on here to read my stuff , because she could give a **** . She has been running around on me anyways , and I could really give a **** BTW . Well enough about that .

Oh , I ran out of gas in the Buick again yesterday . It was pouring rain too . I can't figure it out , I've been keeping track of the miles but must of made a mistake . I also have a locking gas cap , so I don't think anyones been stealing my gas . How easy would it be to pick a lock on a gas cap ? My lady friend co-worker was so kind enough to give me a lift to the gas station and back after work . I think I'm going to have to do this stupid float repair on the gas tank this summer . This running out of gas thing is really getting old . Dont worry , I won't cut a hole in the trunk floor , I'll do it right .

Well , I have a lot of sleep to catch up on this weekend , so gonna go for now . Have a good day .

Good morning everyone.

Looks like I've got some catching up to do.

The holidays kept me busy then it was back to work for a couple of days.

But now it's 2 weeks in Vegas! (One week is almost done.) I'm having a great time but it's cold (about 32f). I was not expecting this. Yesterday we took the train tour to the Grand Canyon and I was driving through a snow storm on the way back to Vegas!

Hope everyone is doing good. I'll catch up once I get back home.

I do like the idea of a CO meet sometime.

Mike, I think it would take a few meets in Canada. And definitely NOT n February.

Have a great day everyone.

It's a beautiful 52 degrees out here now, and finally some sun is shining! I really enjoyed my walk at lunch time and it was 46 then. Too bad it has to get cold again.

I plan on starting Teepo tomorrow while it's warm. If the snow is melted, I'll back her out of the garage. Too bad the roads are salt covered and wet now with this crap melting. Otherwise I'd take her for a spin.

Paul... didn't know you were out West! Enjoy the trip. Isn't the Grand Canyon beautiful? Someday I'll live in Arizona. Are you doing some gambling, or better yet, are you winning?

I turned on my fan about an hour and a half ago.... Steve has his heater on, and it got up to 78 in here......

It's a TGIF day for mosta you?

Paul - you know that's not really cold. Hope you have a good vacation. You planning to go look at Counts Kustoms and the Gold/Silver Pawn shop while you're out there? Danny has his own show on now called 'Counting Cars'. It's not as cool as I thought it would be. You see the 'before' and 'after'. What I was hoping more for was the 'process'.

Bryan - You were right the first time. If you don't run, at least keep your it at a friendship level. Start with a full tank and top it up every 3 days if you don't want to end up dating that girl. Don't let your ex's behaviour be your motivator (as in revenge). It's not worth it.

Dan - there's this theory about leaking roofs. When it's raining you shouldn't go out to fix it. When it's not raining, it's not leaking so you don't need to fix it. Invest in some big buckets....

Mike - If I end up passing through there on the way to Maryland, I'll be sure to let you know what AH to meet me at. Won't have any problem finding Jamesbo - I'll just hit every links in GA on Mon looking for a 69 "Hearse" Oldsmobile.

Clint - that bacon wrapped meat looks toooooo yummy! Trade ya an old beat up set of brake lines and torque converter full of sand for it. I bought lobster tails for din din. Not sure what they did with the rest of it. I feel sorry for those poor lobsters out in the ocean moving around with 'walkers'.

Sandy - you gotta learn to do brakes. Toyota parts and labor at the dealership are way overpriced IMO. My neighbor got his Tacoma rear brakes done last fall for 2500.00 + tax!! And for the record? I would leave teepo sitting without starting her up. Those short engine runs do more harm to the oil and exhaust systems than if you just let it sit for the course of the winter. My 2¢, you can obviously do whatever you choose.

Hope y'all have a great weekend.

Allan are you going to buy that car? I forgot which car it was but I remember reading the thread about it, and your friend was going to house it for you(in North Carolina?) until you could get out there. Neither NC nor Maryland is close to me, but they're closer than they are to you, so if there's anything I can help you with don't hesitate.

Happy Birthday Ken! You've inspired me, by the way. I was reading about Ken's car and that it was the first car he bought. I still have the first car I bought, in sorry shape, and I was contemplating putting it out of its misery. But after reading I decided I'm keeping it for the duration, whatever shape. This year will be 29 years. I just bought a little Hot Wheels that says 442MUCH on the side of it.

Sandy next time you get to work early turn the heat up to about 90 and see what the guys say when they walk in.

No word from Rob so I guess it's not pizza for me tonight.

Mike - after seeing more pics of the car (1973 98 Luxury sedan) and discussing it with my friend (who is also an accomplished bodyman) the consensus is that it would be better to buy a car already fixed up. It had been under a tarp way too long and there were more significant signs of potential rust than I'd care to deal with. Although I'd love to salvage that car, by the time I bought it, got it here and rebuilt it I'd have more $$ into it than buying one already done.

Shucks, I know Maryland isn't that close to you. But it would be a nice visit none the less if I was driving through the area....I could also say hi to Brutus and Sheeba

Allan that's too bad. I think the 73s are the nicest looking of that era big Oldsmobiles. I know you like those, there has to be a better one closer to you.

I'm about to build this plastic model car. While I love green, I don't want to paint it green. What is a good color for a 50 88? I'm going to build it stock.

Nice night. Humid and foggy but warmish. Gonna be 72 tomorrow. Wish it would dry out a little.

Okay time to get into my jammmies and settle in for the night. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.

I know it's not stock per se but I like this combo of Chariot Red, Garnet Maroon and Cream Top. The Rocket would be a bonus

Mornin all. Just got the wife's lunch made and her out the door.

Just about 0`F here. sure can't wait for some warmer weather.

Mike you can never go wrong with black. It looks good on almost anything.

Happy Berfday Ken. Hope all is well with you and the boys.

Allan, I know its a mental thing, but I've lost most of my hankerin for lobsters after learning the relation to cockroaches. Kinda like eatin Carp or buzzard.

Paul have fun in sin city, and just for a safe practice, anytime a pretty girl comes up and talks to you, put your hand over your wallet pocket.

Bryan, I hate to hear of the troubles with the marriage, hope you two can get things figured out.

Sandy, Mayhap you can sit in Teepos pilot seat and make car noises like you are takin her for a spin without ever leavin the drive.

Jeff, I have a buddy in Farmington that got dumped on. It doesn't look like the white stuff is gonna make it over the divide. just bitter cold.

Jamesbo, De mouse for your puter? or one like Mr. Jingles?

Dreary Day at the Planttation

Hi, gang.... only 30% chance of rain today, so hopefully we might dry out just a little; we had a lot of standing water around here yesterday; some roads were impassable. Hopefully the cow can stay over in Texas, where they still need it.... although they've been getting their share lately.

Mike, I had a '73 Delta 88 Royale 455 4-dr back in the 70s and loved it; but I always thought the '71s & '72s looked a little better; never did quite "buy" that big front bumper (1st year for those impact-absorbing bumpers).

I'll stay in the background of the "meeting" topic for now; I might not be able to make it in May... but then again, maybe I could; it would be the luck of the draw with work.

Y'all have a great (hopefully dry) weekend! Maybe in the next week or so, it might feel a little more like winter down here.... s'posta' hit dern near 80 2day....

Happy Saturday all,

What a pleasant surprise this mawnin. It wasn't as cold as I thought it would be. Still have to leave the car plugged in to give it a fair chance though. I'll be going out later to buy a new cell for Graeme - his old one seems to eat batteries faster than Mike devours stacks at AH! I'm thinking of the Galaxy SII or SIII. IMO the iPhone is a little too price heavy for what it delivers, and both of us don't really like Blackberry even though it's a great phone. He's used to a touch screen and after looking up all the cool features of the Galaxy SIII I'm leaning more toward it than ever. Lately Graeme's old phone won't hold a charge longer than 10 hours and batteries don't last longer than a month.

Clint - w'all y'all tell my Mrs. they're related to them bugs. I doubt it'll sway her from eatin them bottom feeders. I'm not big into lobster, but I sure do like prawns and fish. They're supposed to be way healthier for me and I do have to watch what kind of food I eat to control the 'pre diabetes'.

John - Nice to see you had a 73 also. Was it the Royale HT? I was seriously looking at buying one from a lady in Nebraska till she did she changed her mind on the sale price. It was a 72 Royale - green exterior with black interior 455/4bbl and in beautiful shape. Also had the polycast wheels. It's still listed on CL IIRC. BTW? 72 was actually the first year of the energy absorbing front bumper - not 73. Just that in 72 the bumper was 'spring' controlled, in 73 it was damper controlled.

Jamesbo - W'all o corse I knows Ken bud! He's oney a few miles away. in fact all us Canucks nose each udder by first name. Most uv us go by 'haybud'. Dat's a pic of Ken from his fb page btw. I nose all bout his car an grage. Sat wit him in both of em. His beer fridge onlee has coke init tho. He gots a good understandin wit his supermodel bout mancave stuff and 'de club'. I'se a member of de club too.

Gonna warm up here in the next few days but no where near what you guys are getting. Your January is what we might be lucky to get in July.

Happy Saturday everyone.

Ran a couple errands this afternoon, after spending two hours on a conference call regarding the Corvair Preservation Foundation. I didn't have much to say since I'm a newbie, but it was interesting. My role will be to find places, museums and such, for the stuff the CPF has tucked away in people's basements and garages. I saw a picture of a styling study for an Oldsmobile Corvair. Nice looking car actually.

Beautiful here today. Mid 70s and now sunny. Gonna go paint my model car. I decided on Ivy Green Poly. Yes I know I said I didn't want green but I couldn't find anything close to Crest Blue and I really didn't want grey or red. Most of my models are black.

Well the daylight is slipping away, though we are getting more of it every day. Have a good afternoon everyone.

Oldsmobile Corvair??? Really! Love to see that. Too bad Ralph considered them to unsafe.

I used to paint my models whatever color I had the most color left. Some of them ended up looking like a Johnny Cash Cadillac if you know what I mean. Back in them days, we used to buy them pretty cheap and use em for target practice after a few months when we were tired of them. A destroyed model was reason to buy a new one. Only a few actually never made it to the range.....IIRC they were the ones that were 'hot cars'. Kickin myself now for all the bucks wasted. But back then ammo was dirt cheap and the excitement of shooting cans or bottles had fizzed a lot.

I sit corrected

You're right, Allan.... the '72 front bumper had the spring-steel mounts that were supposed to absorb parking-lot-type (2.5 mph) impacts. The '73, however, got the huge (5-mph) front bumper with the damper mounting, which made them stick out an extra 3-4" more than the '72 -- a look I never was wild over. BTW, neither year passed the specific low-speed crash tests unscathed.

Mine was a SEE-dan.

John - too funny. I had a hard time wrapping my head around those big **** bumpers when they first came out too although you could already see them coming on the 72 models...

Ok now dat we nose you had a SEE dan, wuz it the SEE dan wit pillars or the Holiday SEE dan?? Dey had both. I likes de look of de holiday SEEdan bedder.

I found one of your favorite....

A couple of points, the red car labeled a 61 Corvair is actually a 60, and the "jacking" of the rear wheels causing many problems during testing is greatly over exaggerated. The early Corvairs were quite stable as a matter of fact. Anyway, I try to not be like the other **** Corvair people. And Nader had nothing to do with the car being discontinued. He had the opposite effect. Really.

One time I had it in my head I wanted a 72 Delta 88 convertible. Don't remember why I got off that kick, maybe it took me so long to find one I liked I lost interest, or something else came along I wanted to obsess over.

The local Buick place, oh early 90s, had a 73 Delta convertible, brown-brown seats-white top, on the used car lot. Not a bad looking car actually, but it sat there forever. Finally they painted it white. It looked awkward as white with brown seats. It sat for a second forever then was gone, no idea whatever happened to it.

Mike, cool article. From just checking the pics it looks like the upper and side body profiles were exactly the same on all the Chev, Pontiac and Olds designs. Likely only the front, rear and dash styling were different? Sorry bout my confusion on Ralph.

Hmmm.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, Allan, but I thought the pillarless one was the hardtop and the "pillared" one was the sedan... was there another kind of sedan, perhaps with window frames and no pillar? Regardless of what the "marketeers" called them, I stick with the traditional nomenclature and call a pillared car a sedan and a pillarless one a hardtop. Mine was pillared.

It was brown, with a light yellow (painted) top, and the cream vinyl interior. I bought it for about $2500 in '76 and sold it to my brother in '80 for about $700; I think it had about 40k miles on it when I bought it, and about 100k when I sold it. My brother sold it to my aunt's friend about 3 yrs. after that for about $400 (the A/C had long since quit). That lady finally had to have the TH-400 replaced, after about 150k miles and (while I had it) an occasional run at Gulfport Dragstrip . (It usually would run about a 16.5 at about 83-84 mph, although one particularly cool night, it did pull off about a 16.15 @ 85.... best time ever....)

The only engine work done in that time was a set of lifters, pushrods, & rockers to quiet a tick.

I have one or two pictures of it I need to scan & post one day.... we drove it over Clint's way in '78 to Dillon, CO, on a skiing trip. Ran like a top.

I, as well, kept my eyes open for a '71 or '72 conv't in nice shape, but I never pulled the trigger. Besides GSs, the other car I always had my eye on through the years was a '69 or '70 Chrysler 300 convertible, or a '69 or '70 Polara convertible, 383 minimum, but preferably 440. I never did get either of those, and when I got the Starfire, I pretty much put my full-size drop-top search to bed....

Evening All!!

It was a glorious day here today! Some weak sun and 60 degrees!!! I'll take every bit of warmth I can get, lol. We can see the grass again now. The snow is all melted except the big piles from being plowed, but they are smaller. I turned the heat way down in the house and opened the windows some. The fresh air was so nice! Thought about washing the windows, but figured with the rain tomorrow, they'd just get spotted again. I hate dirty windows. We have flood warnings out for tomorrow, I guess its supposed to rain pretty much all day and cool off. It was kinda dank and damp today even though it was nice out.

I vaccumed out the Intrigue this morning before Nicole left in it. I really wanted to clean it good and detail it. If I ever get the chance to restore it, it's gonna take a lot of work. Pop has been spilled in it, carpet is stained, looks like someone spilled pop or coffee in the back seat right down the seatbelt hole. The seatbelt straps that are showing are this really dark color.... its sad. The covering on the rear package tray is coming off in places. I made the mistake of sweeping up there and that fuzzy stuff is so dry, it was floating in the air and landing on the seats when I touched it, lol. Guess it is 12 years old now. Poor little Olds.

I cleaned out Tincanio too while I had the shop vac out.

I did go out and start Teepo this afternoon! She liked it, lol. Started right up as usual. Let her run for 35 minutes. Turned on the heat and AC, backed her out of the garage a little ways then pulled her back in. She was all happy.

I swept out the breezeway and shook the rugs out there. Moved my plants around some and picked dead leaves off them. Ran the Sweeper in the house and got the cleaning done.

Larry made steaks on the grill this evening. They were good. I'm hungry for tater salad so I think I'm gonna make me some tomorrow.

My sister Jean had one of those 72 or 73 Olds. I don't remember which year. I do remember that big ole bumper on it though! That was a nice car.

Well you all have a good evening.

Afternoon everyone, hot here still with temps in the high 30's.

Clint is right my router died on me so I had trouble getting onto the internet for a while

Glad to hear the dogs are home safe and sound Mike, always love a happy ending

Happy belated birthday Jamesbo, hope you like your gifts

$1200 and change for tyres and brakes sounds a bit steep Sandy, even for me

No fires are around here so far and we are hoping it stays that way.

Have lots of fun in Vegas Paul, it really is a good place to go for a while and unwind

Xmas shut is finished at work so back to normal hours for me. I will miss working in the workshop now that is over maybe I can get a transfer over there later in the year

Have a great day olds friends

Adrian

John - the Delta 88 seedans were in 2 categories: Pillared - which you had, and Holiday (no pillars). Anyway you answered the question. You didn't have the Holiday (Hardtop) seedan. I liked them better just based on looks alone.

Bryan - ummm, nope not going there.

Adrian - been watching you guys on the news. They showed the fires down there were so huge they were visible from the ISS. Hope that heat dies down soon.

This year will be 29 years. I just bought a little Hot Wheels that says 442MUCH on the side of it.
Thanks Mike. Now where did you read about my car? It was in the Members' Ride of our newsletter this month, did you get a copy?
