I like vintage beer signs. I have a few. A fav is an original vintage neon illuminated Amstel Light sign. I like the beer & I've toured the brewery (Amsterdam).

I appreciate that. I don't get to have this kind of fun very often.

The car has two transmissions bolted together, the land transmission and the water transmission. A common shaft runs through them. The idea is when you get to the boat ramp you select neutral on the land transmission and select forward on the water trans. If you leave the land trans in gear when you're swimming yes the speedometer will turn. This is not optimal, since when the car is in the water the wheels hang down and the axles touch the tunnels. If the wheels are turning then the axles are riding against the tunnels and will eventually wear a hole, thus allowing water into the car. That's a long winded answer to the question does the speedo work in the water. The short answer, it depends.

The fireworks didn't start until after 10. Always a nice show, I hate to think what it costs. Stayed awhile longer just talking. The weather has been nice so everyone has been on the go for several days and now the cars are starting to break down. One guy had some throttle linkage come apart, another guy got vapor lock and then cooked his starter trying to start the engine. Weird little problems have plagued these cars since they were new. Part of the joy I suppose.

Mike - That's interesting how the two transmissions are tied together w/ a common shaft shared between them. Makes sense some breaking down. Most folks trailer their Amphis to the event? Are parts for Amphis available or tough to come by?

No injuries to report from Walmart. I suspect I haven't been inside a Walmart for ~7 - 8 months. I had a need for basic supplies i.e. laundry, toiletries, etc. Selections available on those items is overwhelming w/ fantastic prices. Walked out the door <$77.00 Saw only one nut-case customer.

Mike - Really glad you're having fun, you deserve some quality downtime from you're usual routine! 😃

Keith - Thanks for sharing the Amphi videos..

John - Love the beer signs! My favorite Vintage beer signs are the Carling Black Label, "Hey Mabel" series. Gotta love the sexism!

Norm - Glad you survived Walmart, no small feat!

The car show I wanted to go to today was a washout, at least for me. There's another show tomorrow afternoon/evening but the forecast is not looking good right now. Think I'll checkout the Olympic schedule in a little while and see if there are any events I'd like to see tonight. Hope everyone has a great rest of your weekend!

I "know" this was a mistake in spelling since you would have never made it as far as you did in your career.

Yes, I'm a tad **** on spelling & such. It most likely stems from being exceedingly **** on the written word. When you've spent a majority of your daily life reading/cutting & sequencing DNA/RNA codons, you damn sure have to get spelling correct. Carry on!

Pics from a local show last that I went to last night. It used to be a pretty good size show, generally 200+ cars. They changed the format from a cruise between two adjacent towns, to a stationary one due to people doing burn outs. The police and city leaders were concerned about someone losing control of their car, and running into the bystanders. The downside is that people didn't like the change, and did not show up. Maybe 80 cars there. https://photos.app.goo.gl/A9mwMw68igAV8dtT7

Hey, when you know there’s a high likelihood of a “stressful” outing, why not try to take the edge off? And maybe blend in at the same time.

Bunch of nice cars. Can't talk about them all ----------but------------I like the VW bus, very sharp, the (1947?) Whizzer motorbike is pristine, love the Packard, too. I generally think of taking a whizzer not riding one. Thanks for sharing.

Norm, are you old timey enough to remember carbon tetrachloride and how to use it as a fabric cleaner?

Absolutely, I recall it from the dry cleaners. I personally have never used it as a fabric cleaner that I recall.

One of my coworkers in the 90s said he worked in oil fields and they had open barrels of that. At the end of their shift they would dunk their arms to wash off the crude.

I have a couple bottles of it. My dad has a woman's fan that was promised (at least my sister says so) to her that was my dad's aunt's. My mom had it framed, but my dad does not run enough AC in Florida because he is cheap and now it has mildew. I am thinking some old school dry cleaning technique might bitch slap it back to white and right.

With regards to CCl4. It is extremely non-polar. Which means it is insoluble in H2O. If you attempt to mix it w/ H2O you'll have a mess of nothing as the CCl4 will roll right off the H2O. H2O being highly polar will push itself away from CCl4. Regarding mildew...hmmm...not sure. CCl4 will readily dissolve oil, grease, waxes, inks, and damn near anything organic - correction, most likely it will dissolve anything organic. The rate at which it will dissolve I don't know. I can't say if it is going to be effective against mildew because I'm not sure about the amount of organic molecules contained in the gazillion species of mildew. I'm betting dollars to donuts it will definitely turn any mildew absolutely white. Whether it will dissolve mildew I don't know.

Back in "the day" there were certain groups of professions who used CCl4 as an anesthetic & sometimes as an analgesic (mostly instead of using chloroform (CHCl3). It's the chlorine which "bleaches".

Responses noted. I am sending her to a dry cleaner first. Well, a frame shop to have it removed, then a dry cleaner. If nothing works, I will try the old stuff with heavy gloves and a respirator. As in P100 respirator.

The amount of CCl4 you have & likely will be working w/ require no extreme measures of protection. It was/is the constant inhalation of of extraordinarily large doses of CCl4 (on a daily basis) which led to organ damage. Much like the "Mad Hatters" who went off their rockers from CNS disorders from constantly inhaling Hg when forming/shaping hats with Mercury using steam in the "good old days".

Y'all remember Michael Faraday? Physical chemist of the 1800s. Developed the Faraday Constant used in every physics course and every mathematical physics equation known to mankind. Mike worked w/ chlorine (Cl) & discovered CCl4.

Today's bonus round:

There are four factors which influence the solubility of solutions: temperature, pressure, polarity, and molecular size. Cl is unique among the many solutions. Nearly all solutions can become supersaturated. As you heat the solvent, you can increase the amount of solute dissolved into the solvent resulting in a supersaturated solution. Not so w/ Cl. It's the reverse. You can dissolve more Cl into a solvent when it is colder. Albeit, if you happen to spill bleach (NaClO=Sodium Hypochlorite) on anything (especially yourself), use copious amounts of cold water to remove bleach instead of warm water. If you use bleach as a cleaning agent, use a cold solution instead of a warm solution.

I hope Tedd is doing OK. That fire is 0% contained, over 350,000 acres and has burned several places in Forest Ranch which his where Tedd is located. Not certain exactly what side of HWY 32 he is located, the East side is the better side, the West side (of HWY 32) is devastated.

Tedd said the wind was pushing the fire away from him, so I hope means he’s on the good side of the fire line and that’s continuing.

Hi everyone.

Nice last day to the event. Beautiful weather the whole time. Today we went out "bobbing for booze." One of the members owns liquor stores and he brings the little airplane sized liquor bottles and they get thrown out onto the lake(inside foam things so they float) and we drive the cars around with nets and fish them out of the water. That's it, no game, no prize, just bob along and pick up booze. This evening we were in the Lake Fest parade, then had a big meal and program. I could have done without the program. Thank you this guy, thank you that guy, here's a bunch of dumb things we got at the dollar store to give as awards. Eh.

So tomorrow before the chickens I'm loading up and heading home. I would have done well to take Monday off, but I'm running dangerously low on time off. I'll be okay. Not going in early on Monday.

Dan another nice show. My favorites, in no particular order, are the Barracuda, the Imperial, the Bus.

Okay it's way later than I wanted to be getting to bed. Long drive tomorrow. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

The Packard was great looking car, probably my favorite. A week ago at another car show, the was a white Imperial. So, I asked if they were at that show, their response was "no". I wasn't the first to ask, apparently there are more than one in the area. Not a common car.

Hi guys,

Dodged rain drops most of the day but had a great time at a smaller local Car Show in High Ridge, MO this afternoon/evening. Somehow I came away with Best in Show. If you'd like to check out the pics you can see them here:

Good morning everyone.

Well here I am back at work and it feels like I never left. Why is it, when we crawl into bed, or sit down at the breakfast table, we never say gee it feels like I never left?

Nice trip home yesterday. Long. Hit rain once I got into Georgia, I guess it rained the whole time I was gone. The grass has gone looney. Don't know when I'll be able to mow.

Laundry and Walmart after work. Doctor's appointment tomorrow. I need to get with it, summer is quickly fleeting. I could be off a year and not get caught up. I should have taken today off. Oh well.

Hope everyone has a good day.

I need to repair my mower. Was supposed to do it this past weekend and never got moving. Primary thing is replacing blown deck belt. Will also do drive belts. I think something is weird on the speed selection as it goes 50% faster in each gear than it should. Troy Bilt Pony with the common chassis used by like five brands. My variable speed pulley or gear selector might be acting up.

Listened to reel to reel rock and roll last night. In addition to an unrelated amplifier starting to go into protection and now needing repair, I had to clean heads and rollers a lot to get rid of cross talk and then I lost a channel on one unit. Had to toggle the switch for tape and source a bit, cleared that up. Many tapes just don't seem to be balanced or strong on one track (channel) but I will put another tape on and get greatness. Have to keep them exercised. Good copy of ***** and the Poor Boys, and the front half of Neil Diamond's Live at the Greek was good but the back half is not. Ended on a pretty strong tape from my dad's 50 year old dubs of Help! and Surrealistic Pillow, but the sides are not contiguous, ie, they played side 1 of an LP, then side 1 of another LP on a second record player and kept recording, then flipped them. Handwritten notes are accurate.

John - I think it's so cool you have so many pieces of high-end vintage audio equipment! It's great you have the knowledge and sources to keep it all going. 👍
