Chris I took a couple "glamour shots" of the Imperial to send in to the guy who runs the Imperial forum. He wanted to make a 2024 calendar. He said he got 6 people who sent in pictures. I'll take a couple pictures of the interior here soon and see how I can send them to you. This car is the "base" Imperial, but it has a special order interior. It's even called out on the punch card. The pattern and texture looks to me to be what they put in the limousines. Wish it told who owned the car first.

Just went out for a few minutes with one of the dogs, it's just brutal! 96° and a Heat Index of 107°, approaching Kenneth territory. Bad news, it's supposed to be worse tomorrow!
I’m presently in SW Louisiana and have been working outside in 92-95 temperatures and 60-70% humidity. Spent 7 hours working outside today and while I was soaking wet, at no time did I feel it was “hot”. NWS says the heat index was 105 today.
Locals are complaining about how hot it is.
I have now experienced both in a short period of time and I can conclusively say 90s temperatures and humidity is NOT 115+ degrees, not by any means.
Well, a short work day. Storms came whipping through this a.m. absolutley wind whipped rain on the highway, but trees down across our main entrance prevented me and everybody else from getting in. Went around to the second entrance, blocked by a tree, diverted around to come in from the north, nope, more downed trees. Pulled over a couple of miles away to try and call in, busy signal. Got ahold of a co worker, he managed to get the 3rd shift supervisor, and was told no power. The 3rd shift is stuck at work until the trees are removed. Emergency vehicles all around the area (not at my shop). reports of 85mph wind gusts. A mess. There's always tomorrow.

Dan - Thanks for describing identical conditions experienced here last night as that extremely long (N>S) front moved through. I was about ready to head in the middle of the house - winds had to have approached ~100 mph. I expect some tornado cells were not too far away. I sensed that eerie feeling you get w/ tornado cells - dead quiet then the freight train moving through.
I haven't looked at the roof, yet. I have limbs down - no large ones, just many small ones strewn about like a kid unwrapping gifts Christmas morning. I see some trees down & bent over in the 10 acres behind me.

A Super Cell (from which a tornado is born) has a hook image where tornado would form, if you're looking at a radar signature. The entire area is called a Super Cell, a tornado (if it develops) will occur at the hook, which is almost always the back 10% of a Super Cell. A Super Cell is fed from the ground up and contains vagaries of discordant updrafts/downdrafts which feed the Super Cell. The silence (dead calm) is produced when an inflow of air is uplifted into the Super Cell. Very eerie. I felt it and I've witnessed only a couple times in my lifetime.

Managing my weekly routine of bringing in trash bins for my elderly physically challenged neighbors I found a large heavy metal gauge strap and cover (the strap secures the cover) ripped from a large 40K power pole. I called Duke Energy to report it as it's a safety hazard. I know it was ripped off from last night's winds.

Wife did her weekly cleaning job for our elderly neighbors today. I always try to either take her out for dinner or get takeout on the days she cleans. I went and got us Chinese, and I got a full order of General Tso's Chicken (requested extra spicy) and an order of their fried Chicken Wings. Their wings come fried without sauce, but I smother them in Frank's Red Hot Wing Sauce before I eat them. Ordered new set of Rancho RS5000 (RS55261) rear shocks for the 2003 F-250 diesel pick-em-up tractor. I replaced the front shocks when I had them install new tie-rods, new ball joints, new brakes all around & two new front tires - what was that about six months ago, I think? I knew the rear shocks were far less than marginal & it's time I install new rear shocks as I can feel the back end getting quite bumpy. Something to keep me occupied & away from the saloons.
I have often used the phrase John Wayne mentality. Most times describing narrow minded fight for results or tighten the screw harder if you want things to work better...old school mentors do not always prevail. Just me

I'm back in Alabama for this week. Got a free upgrade to a better class of car. The Dodge Challenger, I can tell, is near the end of its major model. I can also tell it is a retro muscle car. The trunk is smaller, usably, despite being bigger. Getting into the back seat would suck dodging the front seat's shoulder straps. The thing is a fake hardtop. Why make hardtop doors yet pillared and framed quarter windows? Also, the windows do a little stupid duck to get under an attempt at a double sided glass seal, then come back up. I can't imagine that lasting long.
Same powertrain as the Charger, and, as such, and a rental, is a 300 hp v6, meaning the lighter Charger is faster. This car begs for a V8 and a stick shift. Blind spots are immense. Trunk lid is heavy. AC blows very cold, radio is VERY good, seat is comfortable, and it has enough punch to be sporty enough. If I had a V8 stick shift model and could park with windows open most of the time, it might not be a bad thing. Black on black on black is not good in Alabama summer. Tag is appropriate for my youth, means I have a license to break the traffic laws.
A family-owned survivor. Only one family-owned. RARE FIND. A 75 year old gem. This vehicle was purchased in 1949 by my Great Grandfather. Was handed to my grandfather, mother and then in 2003 to me. I drove it every year. I also maintained the car meticulously. This car still runs-Drives-clear title. Just before I stored the vehicle for the winter I was having an issue with the transmission. I am not sure what it is. The transmission still runs.
4 door sedan, 6-cylinder 237 CI engine, 3 speed on the tree fluid drive transmission. White walls do not have flat spots on them. Stored indoors since the second year. Stored in heating during the winter. 40166 miles on the odometer. All glass is there and decent, all chrome as well. Car has no rust and is solid. Original engine, transmission and rear end. Please do not ask if it is available, I do not respond to that as most are scams. If the post is up the car is available, thanks. NOT on sale! Not perfect. This car has been in my family from 1949 until now.

Kenneth - Very cool you had a track day at Bondurant.
I highly recommend attending a professional driving course. Not only is it more fun than you can imagine, you actually learn valuable driving skills that can be used every day. The wife and I went through a BMW performance driving school at their west facility in Thermal, CA and not only was it a blast but we both learned a lot, even as folks with decades of driving history. There’s always more to learn and skills to hone, and did I mention how fun it was to tear up the track in someone else’s car, with their tires, brakes, and fuel? Oh man, the tires and brakes were abused, I can tell you! If it were close enough to do it every year, I would be there.
Thought I'd forego the two hours overtime and come in regular time. I just don't get enough sleep when I come in early and I sit at my desk and can't keep my eyes open. Maybe today I'll be able to stay awake a little more. Yesterday we did pretty well. I signed 51 wheels and we got out a few minutes early. That's because the lead left and some self-appointed person said leave. So we did.
I think that DeSoto is a smokin' deal. And beautiful. I think it's sad that the car has been in the family for 75 years and now it's getting sold. Doesn't matter that the car is inanimate and doesn't care, it's a constant in the family's lives and can be traced to every event those people went through. This person doesn't want it anymore, but what if someone down the line would want it, or in a different branch of the family(brother, cousin, etc). Short-sighted. Even if someone buys it and takes meticulous care of it, the history is moot. Well, maybe in 75 years the new family will have history. Geez I didn't know I had that in my this early.
John that isn't a bad looking car. I've owned the retro Mustang and the retro Camaro. Oh and a retro Fiat, actually two of them. The Challenger has yet to find its way to my house. A couple people here at work have them and like them, but I'm just not gaga over it. Now if it were a convertible... I'd probably get it cranked up and play Eldon Palmer.
