Well, I was thinking of times before the roads were salted, driving with the top down and the heater on, enjoying the brisk air that makes the engine feel powerful, and laying down rubber stripes at the stop lights. Eh, maybe I’m just remembering fun times from my youth.
Kenneth - I know you're just trying to help and I appreciate it! You've helped with other things in the past and I appreciate your knowledge, as well as everyone else on this thread. In this case I think I'm gonna leave well enough alone for the time being. Plus, I know Norm's already started on a new list for me!
I believe like Coca Cola should have. If it aint broke don't fix it
Almost daily at the end of each school day in H.S. (1966-1970) me & my friends would meet on the 2nd floor of Ackerman's Dept Store where there was a tiny lounge in the clothing department. What was special was this lounge had an all steel Coca-Cola red upright, side-door little glass bottles dispenser & the Cokes were ice cold. Cost was one nickel.
Norm do you remember when they put another coin box on the nickel machines to get an extra penny. The BS reason was a sugar shortage when Castro took over Cuba
Jim - I don't believe I recall the extra penny. Interesting.
I've setup three rounds of golf today through Sunday. Time to get moving along for the range. Having issues with my driver swing. I need to put some time in. TTYL
Not much happening today. Took my wife to her daughter's house a little while ago. She is going to spend the night there and help her daughter prep for our granddaughter's 6th birthday party tomorrow. So, the pups and I are drinking beer and holding down the fort, what a life. I've got 2 nice pork steaks just off the grill. I made up some sweet/sour vinegar slaw to go with the bbq pork steaks, and biscuits just came out of the oven to go with it.
Got the grandaughter's b-day party tomorrow afternoon, and I was hoping to go to a judged show on Sunday, but every weather site is showing at least 90% chance of rain, doesn't look like that's happening. This would be the first weekend in about 6-weeks that I haven't got the car out to at least one event. Hope everyone had a great day, and for you fathers out there, I hope you have a great Father's Day on Sunday!
Chris - Fat Tire is a good ale. Goes well w/ the BBQ pork & biscuits.
Jim - While I was Marshal Zone Chair (Holes 15,16,17) at the Greenbrier Classic for several years I regularly interacted w/ John & his fiance of 15 years Anna who was John's caddie. Both are nice people.
Norm, The few people I know who are members barely speak to me and when they do I kinda wish they hadn't. Not my cup of tea and Im sure the feeling is mutual
Jim - I'm right there w/ ya. I used to Marshal for the RBC Heritage. They're a Master's wanna-be group - all their plaid sports coat B.S. & my-$hit-don't-stink attitudes.
Had my mother come by for a couple nights on the way to visit her sister (my aunt.) House was clean, made a lasagna for Thurs night, grilled a cheeseburger for lunch yesterday, we went all sorts of places. German food last night. Went by the last few days of the local Bed Bad and Beyond, one of her favorite stores, and she found the sheets she was looking for and bought all three sets that were left. Serious homemakers are serious about housewares.
Evaluated my grandma's pressure cookers and picked the best out. We tried them, they need gaskets. Presto brand. I will get them fixed up.
Need to do laundry today. May go to car show tomorrow. The plant only fell half apart on my day off Friday. I've only used two vacation days this year so far.
I like Bed, Bath & Beyond although I haven't had the need to go there in some time. I did hear they are a snail's *** from going bankrupt - closed 150 stores recently 360 stores remain open.
Just got back from our granddaughter's b-day party, it was a good time, and the decorations/theme was a big hit, primarily because of my wife's skills. Our granddaughter said she wanted a Hawaiian/beach theme so my wife went to work and went all out!
B-day girl in costume, courtesy of my wife. My wife also built and decorated the Tiki Bar.
B-day cake made from scratch and decorated by my wife!
Cupcake menagerie, yep, courtesy of my wife!
The Mistress of Ceremonies, or as I like to say, The Hostess with the Mostest! The gal's got skills!
Nice party. Last Hawaiian party I went to, girls all had coconut brassieres. They were uncomfortable and several went without in the last hours of the party.
I went to Presto's website. Turns out, I have two variations of Model 40, the 2.5 quart and the 4 quart. They take exactly the same parts, and the website is straightforward, simple, and stocks parts for these old things. I am tremendously impressed. One cookbook, two insert trays, two ring gaskets, two high pressure valve gaskets, two pressure indicators (the jiggling stoppers you put on top), and two vent pipes, just in case these new ones need a different pipe, are on the way.
My grandma had some little itty bitty ones she would use that had a lid that bent and inserted under the lip of the pot and you levered it tight. They were questionable 20 years ago; my dad and I repaired them frequently as parts broke. The ones I have are the more modern "align the tabs and rotate left 20 degrees" locking. They can provide a floor show, if the gasket fails under pressure.
Thanks Norm. Obviously my wife was the star player today. I did however try to get into the theme by wearing my "Duane's Ono Charburger" (Anahola, Kauai, HI) tank top, surfer shorts, sandals, and of course my baseball hat on backwards. Wife bought me the tank top as a souvenir when we stopped at the burger joint on Kauai for takeout one night when we were on our Honeymoon.

Thanks John. I've been to a few like the one you described. Seems like every frat house throws a big Hawaiian themed party at one time or another. Good times!
Glad you were easily able to get replacement parts for the pressure cookers!
Chris, Ya need to have a 308 GTS for a Hawaiian party https://buy.motorious.com/articles/n...rrari-308-gts/ Please tell me those aren't Whomp [canned] biscuits .........................I, gonna have ta give you a lesson on biscuits 101 made with real lard
John - I own a Presto pressure cooker I purchased new ~40 yrs. ago. I haven't had a need to use it much in the past 10 years. Grandparents each owned a Presto, Mom owned two or three of the big ones. Growing up we had ~1/2 acre to a full acre vegetable garden each summer. We all pitched in when it came time for canning.

Jim - I'll come clean, yes they're canned biscuits. My wife's the scratch baker and I was flying solo that evening, plus I was in a hurry to eat. My wife's biscuits or rolls from scratch are x10 better.
Happy Father's Day to all our Fathers on this thread, I hope you have a great day! I have made plans to spend time with both my girls and their families on separate days because I had hoped to be going to a Father's Day car show today, but that isn't going to happen because rain and possibly severe weather will be here in about a hour or so. This will be the first weekend I haven't had the 4-4-2 out to at least 1 event in about 4 or 5-weeks. Oh well, lots of summer left. I hope ya'll have a great day!

Every Southern man calls those Thwomp or Whomp Biscuits, I believe it was the great, late, Lewis Grizzard that coined the term.
My mother has a recipe, I call it Yankee Ribs, just to differentiate between it and Southern BBQ Ribs; pressure cook till tender, put in baking dish with sauce for 45 min in oven. It will be one of my first attempts.
The wife was watching one of those cooking shows with the 3 famous chefs (Gordon and 2 other guys). They all thought this one lady was crazy, there was no way she could cook ribs in the time allotted... and then she busted out the pressure cooker. My wife and I laughed, "How can they NOT know the secret to cutting down the cook time for ribs???"
One of these days this summer, I will have to do the finish step on my outdoor grill, with some wood chips added. Several gas grills these days now come with a holder to fill with your favorite wood chips, to get that smoked flavor.
I just got done submitting a photo of Monty and Maggie in an annual Pet Photo Contest held by our local weekly County Paper. This picture was taken minutes after getting in the door from bringing Maggie home from the breeder. Monty immediately took her under his wing and they have been best buds ever since. Of all the special moments we have pictures of, this is my favorite.
