I am at the point now, before break, where I ended yesterday. Maybe the lead had a talk with his boy who knows.
Greg you probably could have driven another 200 miles on that trans, but when it stopped it was done. People giving you the finger? That wasn't very nice. Couldn't they see you were having trouble? Was I in that line? The dogmobile is a 2010 Ford Transit Connect. I should have sold that guy over the winter like I wanted to, so no one would know the AC didn't work.
I'm going to finish painting the closet at Mom's after work today. I think we're going to get rain today so nothing outside. I'm not real sure I'm happy with the color I chose. I was looking for 1965 Chevy Evening Orchid, but the paint dried a lot darker than the chip. It's just regular lavender. Eh, no turning back now.
Almost break. Hope everyone enjoys their Hump Day.
Sorry, Mike, did not see.
The house that went kerbloom is on north Weinbach Ave. This is about the geographical center. I live north of the north side some 9 miles up. 72skytop on here is a little closer, and I am not sure where user meoff lives in Evansville, he hasn't been on in a long time. I was in Florida when it happened. I am sure I would have felt it here at my house, but probably not at the Toyota plant, where I would have been at that time.
I rode back with a guy from the car rental place today that knew the couple that died in the house; nice people, not tweakers, and the man had complained about sweating walls the week prior. I think he had a gas leak coming into the house that filled his walls and other areas off and it went with a light switch or a pilot light. This house did not lose the windows and doors like a meth lab explosion; the roof went into low earth orbit and the rest of the place departed this realm.
Wow, I am surprised that the mercaptan smell didn't alert them to a gas leak. I've smelled that stuff and it is not pleasant - it stinks like rotten eggs (hydrogen sulfide). It doesn't take much of a leak to make a huge cloud of stink.
I found this (what appears to be original video footage) of the Evansville explosion. The detail is so excellent you can stop-frame (pause) w/o losing focus/clarity (even when you increase it to Full Screen mode). You'd certainly think they would have smelled the mercaptan. It's really interesting what John stated regarding complaint of walls sweating the week before.
Having some fun I captured a still-frame from Full Screen mode and noticed what appears to be a transformer explosion on the utility pole? I'm betting several agencies will be looking at this video.
Mike - You’re correct regarding savings. I’ll never purchase a new truck again. An engine is ~$11K a trans is ~$5K less
Norm, We didn't buy a drop in and reused some parts valve covers, oil pan, air filter etc. I'm getting by for around 7 K INCLUDING LABOR new radiator and belts and pullies included
Jim - That sounds very reasonable, indeed. Remember my hatred for the mechanics who last worked on my truck for the tune of $7500 and refused to repair a leak? Anyways enough of those asshats, next time I think I’ll buy a complete engine.
That flash you point out comes AFTER the explosion, though.
Had the 64 out to a local cruise-in last night that was disrupted at the beginning by a pop-up storm. Not too many cars, but a few that caught my attention. One guy with a '55 98 that parked next to me. Will post pics later. Also a potential lead on an interested buyer.
Today at work, we are having our annual car show. Figured it was time after 15 years with the company, that I bring the ol' girl down for it. Will go out and get pics later. A few interesting cars, nothing too out of the oridinary, though.

Jeff - Good luck with the lead on a potential buyer!
WooHooooo! My dentist was able to save and re-cement my crown. Plus, no other problems with my teeth. It's already been a great day! Hope everyone else has a great one.

According to my wife, who has white coat syndrome (anxiety driven by doctors, dentists, etc), getting a crown molded is the worst dental experience, even more than getting the remnants of her shattered wisdom teeth chiseled out. So, I'd say your crown being able to be "re-installed" is definitely a good thing. Or so I've heard.
Chris - Good deal.
Jeff - Shattered wisdom teeth chiseled out. That sounds awful.
Norm/Jeff - Getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth out in highschool was by far the worst dental experience I've ever had. Didn't hurt really while the oral surgeon was doing it because they were keeping me just barely conscious on a Sodium Pentathol IV. All I could feel while they were doing it was alot of extreme pressure, pulling, and banging. 2 of the 4 were what they termed impacted, meaning the roots were growing around the jawbone. They had a special tool, don't know if it was electric or pneumatic, that acted like a mini jackhammer to break the roots away from the jawbone. Sure did not feel good when the general anesthesia started wearing off!

Done detailing/cleaning/etc. for the day. Dermatologist appointment @ 4:15pm. Regular bi-annual checkup. They're all females at this large dermatology center. Today will be a full body examine. I want to ensure I get my moneys worth - can you develop basal cell carcinoma around the *********? Let's be sure ladies...
Welp, working at a major automotive supplier does not necessarily mean that my coworkers that do not own classics have much taste. Two of the three trophies for classics went to Model T's. The other went to a beautiful restomod 68 Camaro with the drivetrain and interior from a 200x-something GTO. Just an amazing car. In the modern (1980-up) category, the winners were (not joking) a Chrysler minivan, a Tesla Plaid, and an H1 Hummer. C'mon, people. The modern category had several track cars to choose from, too. Egad.
Good day at work. We finished up early and then sat around. No, this lead has never worked the line.
Jeff there is no accounting for taste.
I saw in that video what looked like fire coming from ground level at the same time or a smidge before the house blew up. Watched it several times trying to figure it out until I realized I was watching a video of two people dying. So I stopped.
John good on you for taking care of Mom. I'm guessing you're of the camp that renting a car for a trip is better than driving your own, presumably to keep the miles down. Isn't that what a car is for? You couldn't take your Tundra? My feeling is if your car has low miles then 1000 miles isn't going to matter, and if your car has high miles, then 1000 miles isn't going to matter.
So I'm over at Mom's without Tiger. He was disappointed to say the least that he didn't get to come with. Reason is I wanted to bring the car home and I don't want him riding in it. So I brought over the diesel Suburban and will take the car back home so I can take it tomorrow. Today I've been doing a little cleaning so Mom doesn't have to worry about it when she gets home.
I've hated the dentist my whole life. When I was little my dentist was an old gruff dude who smoked like a furnace and had really fat fingers. Whenever he did anything it felt like he was sticking his whole hand into my mouth. He'd say, if this hurts I'll stop. Well, everything he did hurt but when I said something he'd ignore me. Even after all these years I haven't lost anything at the dentist.
Okay gonna go home and fix my dinner, a novelty eating at home, and then hit the sack. If it looks like we will be long tomorrow I'm going to try to bully the lead into letting me go early. Or shame him, whichever works best. Tiger goes to jail.
Norm, Jeff, I think you guys are right. The transformer went because the lines went because of the explosion. They still don't know or aren't saying what caused it.
On dentistry, my dad, who was my dentist for my first 35 years, had me in in high school to an oral surgeon to yank the wisdom teeth early. I only had 3, and they used big drugs and memory blockers. Hang Em High, which I watched with my dad afterwards while lying on the couch with gauze, was the only movie I have ever watched twice for the first time. All I remembered was the theme song.
Jeff, I've noticed very few Toyota people are car people. Very few engineers are gearheads anymore. All my office is is project managers, anyway, so it doesn't matter.
Mike, my Tacoma needs maintenance and has 280k on it. The clutch is half broke at the moment. I wanted a "fire and forget" car that could cruise at 85, as 840 miles from here to her part of FL is a long day's drive.
That’s what my company has become, too. Barely any engineers these days that have any bit of hands-on technical experience or capability, and the company pushes everyone to be a PM.
Spent the morning on dog duty while my wife was down the street cleaning house for our elderly neighbor friends this morning.
My Joy! Although Maggie is pouting because she's not the center of attention at the moment!
The forecast for attending car shows on Saturday and Sunday looks just plain $hitty right now with over 50% chance of thunderstorms, some potentially severe, for both days. Discretion will probably be the better part of valor for both days unless something changes. Grandson Keegan's 4th Birthday on Saturday afternoon will be the highlight for sure!
Hope everyone is having a great day and has a great weekend!
Re: house explosion, Holy F!!k! Had a co worker who owned a Tiger years ago. It had the 289 in it with 4:10 gears, a '67 I believe. He restored it, never drove it, probably still sitting in his garage. Going to the dentist doesn't bother me, got the broken crown off, and a temp put on, and will be back on 9/6 to get the new crown. It will be $750 instead of $1150, due to a little bit left on my insurance and write off. My buddy had his wisdom teeth pulled when we were about 16-17 years old, the poor bastard looked like a Hamster with his cheeks stuffed full. He was miserable. So, I think, how does Jim know that the young lady is single? Ah, no ring. We are going to have our third weekend in a row with rain, and it's forecast for next weekend as well.
Are ya just joshing me because she doesn't have her ring on? That be my lovely bride who had just gotten in the door from cleaning house. She never wears her rings when she's cleaning house or working on her furniture for fear of losing it in a sink or messing the setting up.

Chris, Jes checking. Try'in to make sure there wasn't any teepee creeping going on
Jim, it appears that I have to subscribe to view the article.
Well a few years ago Pasqual Perez, was late to the Braves game he was spose to be the starting pitcher . While trying to drive to the stadium he made 3 laps around the city on I 285 [perimeter highway]
Poor Maggie looks heart broken, she made need therapy
Yes, she can really lay it on thick when she feels like she's being ignored. It never ceases to amaze me how expressive these dogs are, and their level of intelligence. Had all kinds of dogs growing up and never had any that approached the level of these as far as being "almost human".

Ever have one of those, can't stand on your own feet day( actually two days) Stopped by to deliver a bottle of wine to a friend, and she wasn't home, fell down the back deck steps flat on my face bloody up both knees and elbows (cork was still in bottle if you were going to ask) and limped home tail between my legs to get cleaned up.
Today, I took the Old Man to lunch and on the way home I got a few shots of almond harvest on our property, probably the last day of harvest this year. Took a couple pictures from afar then jumped out of the car to get some of the pickup machine, stumbled over a sprinkler and did a face plant in front of the whole crew. Re blooded my knees and elbows, put a nice bump on my head, sliced up my little finger and embarrassed myself completely. Hard to figure out what leg to limp on, but I did make it back to the Old Man's Lincoln town car and managed to bleed on his white leather upholstery a little.... I need a nap... Tedd

I did not much Saturday. Friday, we left work early and went bowling and pizza as a group. It was very nice. Near the end, we had a spare bowler slot, so we traded off that frame and I actually spun a bowling ball like you're supposed to do. I almost got it to spin right into the pins, my best was right in front of them. For "straight bowling", where I just bean it down the middle of the lane, I can hit about 25% strikes. I'd like to learn how to bowl correctly.
We had one guy wipe out and fall over the foul line. I put my ball down and got to him. He was all right, just embarrassed. We hauled him up and got going again.
I went to the roundy round races the other night and didn't fall but sure was shaky/ unsteady on those old bleachers. Felt like everyone was watching....prolly was.
